Weapon Wednesday – Remote Controlled Phantom Tank

Ukrainian military officials have unveiled an adaptable war robot that can switch up its mode of travel, and even the type of weapons it carries.

The Phantom ground robot can be fitted with tank-like treads, or move about on six wheels – and, it can carry anti-tank weapons, grenade launchers, or machine guns, according to DefenseOne.

The robot was demonstrated on Monday at the Association of the US Army show in Washington, D.C., and could hit the battlefield as soon as next year. read more

It’s a War, Stupid!

from TIME:

This vocabulary of cowardice emanating from Berlin and Washington is as disgraceful as the black-is-white propaganda produced by Putin’s regime, and even more dangerous

As Russian troops and armored columns advance in Eastern Ukraine, the Ukrainian government begs for aid from the free world it hoped would receive it and protect it as one of its own. The leaders of the free world, meanwhile, are struggling to find the right terminology to free themselves from the moral responsibility to provide that protection. Putin’s bloody invasion of a sovereign European nation is an incursion, much like Crimea — remember Crimea? — was an “uncontested arrival” instead of Anschluss. A civilian airliner was blown out of the sky just six weeks ago –—remember MH17? — and with more than 100 victims still unidentified the outrage has already dissipated into polite discussions about whether it should be investigated as a crime, a war crime, or neither. read more

Obama’s Foreign Policy Obsession With Global Warming Emboldens Putin

from Forbes:

If Vladimir Putin had any misgivings about the consequences of invading Ukraine and taking the Crimea, the Obama foreign policy team gave Putin every reason to launch his invasion by soft-peddling the Ukraine crisis and publicly attacking U.S. climate scientists instead.

Nations signal their foreign policy priorities and resolve by choosing issues on which to focus and issues on which to tread lightly. As the Ukraine crisis escalated throughout the month of February and Russian military forces predictably prepared to invade the nation, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry chose to launch a high-profile campaign of attacks against American climate scientists and essentially give the Kremlin a green light to invade Ukraine. read more

Putin and Obama – Opposite Sides of a Different Coin

by: the Common Constitutionalist

Remember this? Obama warned Russian president Vladimir Putin that “there will be costs for any military intervention in Ukraine.”

What “costs” will be paid Mr President? There will be no military cost. Putin knows that. There will be no military cost paid by the Ukrainians who gave up most of their weapons and all their nuclear deterrence long ago in exchange for a hollow American and European promise to come to their defense. Putin knows this.

Putin has been watching – watching community organizer Obama slip from one international blunder to another. From Egypt to Libya – from Afghanistan to Syria.

Yes, Puty-Pute has been watching Obama lead from behind as he recites lofty rhetoric from his teleprompter.

Putin knows exactly who he’s dealing with and Neville Obama hasn’t a clue who he is up against. And that also goes for the Obama brain-trust like Hagel and the erudite John Kerry, who fought in Vietnam, don’t ya know. read more

This Is What “Leading From Behind” Gets Us

by: the Common Constitutionalist

Remember this? You should, for it’s been all over the news recently. “After the Russian army invaded the nation of Georgia, Senator Obama’s reaction was one of indecision and moral equivalence, the kind of response that would only encourage Russia’s Putin to invade Ukraine next”, Sarah Palin told foreign policy in 2008.

Boy that Sarah Palin. What a foreign policy dope. Glad she’s not in charge. I’m glad we instead have leaders like Obama, Biden and John Kerry, even if they collectively have never made a correct foreign policy decision… Ever!

Is Putin really this brash, to stare down the West as he reconstitutes the Soviet empire? It appears he is.

Now, he won’t say that is what he is doing, but that is what he intends. And why do we suppose he thinks he can get away with it? That’s simple. Because the current “Leader of the Free World” is a schoolyard bully. Remove him from his familiar schoolyard environment and he is a shrinking violet. read more
