Immigrants Get Preference Over Citizens in Maine

A long time ago Zanetta Smith got sick and couldn’t work anymore — and then she lost her apartment, WGME-TV reported.

“You fall into bad times, and sometimes it’s hard to get out of it,” Smith told the station.

She’d been living in her car for the last five years until a friend offered to let her stay in a storage shack in the woods, WGME said. read more

Obama Justice Insists on Non-Citizen Police

I think we can all agree that being a police officer, especially in any of our major cities, is one the most demanding and dangerous jobs one can have these days. Short of conducting a house to house in some Middle Eastern hell hole, where one can be ambushed at any time, being a big city cop is about as dangerous and stressful as it gets.
Police everywhere have become targets of the insane and hate-filled left.

We should all be thankful that they remain courageous and committed to upholding the law. Without them, some of our cities would have become sites of the next “Purge” long ago – descending into violence and anarchy.

I know my fair share of city cops, and I can tell you – it takes a certain type of individual to wish to don the uniform everyday, knowing what could be in store for them. These men and women are exceptional citizens who fight the good fight because it’s the right thing.

Not everyone can or should aspire to become a cop. It takes a unique set of skills – some can be taught – some are just innate. Therefore, the heads of these police departments are always on the look out for exceptional individuals – either within their present ranks or new hires. That’s the way it should be. But today, the way things should be and reality rarely mesh. read more

Bilingual Education is Making a Comeback in California

by: the Common Constitutionalist

The election is fast approaching. If one were just returning to America from a long space journey, one would think the only thing on the upcoming November ballot was the “binary choice” (who else hates that term) for President between two extremely flawed candidates. The Senate and Congressional races have received relatively scant attention – and still less attention has been paid to the many ballot initiatives, no doubt, in all 57 (h/t Barack Obama) states.

These state initiatives can be quite important and some may have eventual carry-over to other states, and nationwide. One such proposal in California is Proposition 58, otherwise known as the “LEARN” initiative. It is being promoted  as “yet another step towards righting the wrongs growing out of a wave of anti-multicultural sentiment during the 1990s.”

You might be thinking – so what – I live on the East Coast. What do I care what those whacky Californians do. Well, like many of the most ludicrous federal proposals – they began at the state level and progressive California, as ground zero for wackiness, is often the tip of the spear, so to speak.

Proposition 58, builds upon another bill which was passed in 2014, called the “The California Education for a Global Economy Initiative,” which “empowers parents ‘to choose a language acquisition program that best suits their child’ and requires districts with sufficient numbers of English language learners (ELLs) to launch the multilingual programs.” read more

Night Club Terrorist – Angry American or Radical Ramadan Jihadist?

by: the Common Constitutionalist

UPDATE: Eyewitness inside the night club says there was a guy trying to hold the exit doors closed to prevent people from escaping.  This is yet to be corroborated.

Those of us who choose not to let our daughters, wives or girlfriends share a bathroom or locker room with some 50 year old hairy guy in a wig named Chuckina are called intolerant, haters and bigots. According to the left, we are the worst of the worst human rights abusers on the planet.

Of course these ignorant fools no nothing of real human rights abuses as they (as do we all) remain cloistered within the relative safety of our country’s borders. It’s easy to picket, bitch, moan, boycott and otherwise take a stand against evil conservatives when the threats to one’s safety is pure fabrication.

The courageous left knows full well that they can yell and scream all they like at the “intolerant” right, and we haters and bigots won’t lift a finger against them. No where on Earth is the LGBT crowd treated better than in America. There is no better place to be if you are homosexual or transgender or any other off-beat “questioning” person. We are the most tolerant.

As we are well aware – the most intolerant and hostile toward this lifestyle are Islamists.

Here in the U.S., we’ve just suffered the largest mass casualty shooting in our history, perpetrated by an Islamist, on the homosexual community, with 50 killed at least 53 injured at an Orlando nightclub which caters to the LGBT crowd.

It wasn’t some crazy Christian, distraught over genderless bathrooms, as the left surely would have hoped. It was a radical Islamist, as anyone with a brain could have guessed. read more

The Worldwide Immigration Problem Is Proof of the Dark Side of Human Nature

by: the Common Constitutionalist

There is one absolute constant in the world. It doesn’t discriminate between black, white, yellow or red. It doesn’t care what gender you are or you’re preference. It’s not concerned how much money or status you have, or where you hail from originally. This constant is human nature. It’s the same no matter where you are on the globe. If one is human, one is controlled by human nature.

Human nature has a good and benevolent side, but it also has a flip side that many succumb to. A side that has a tendency to push us toward darker places – to put ourselves before others – to get what we can get, without much thought to how it may negatively affect others. It is a source of constant struggle, for those who recognize it.

So when we see and hear of millions of illegals streaming over our southern border, we should wonder if they, as the left asserts, are all coming to America to work hard, pay their fare share and provide a better life for their families – that they just want their own American dream.

Or, is it more likely that most of them are being driven by the flip side of human nature – to get what they can get, without regard to how it may affect American citizens. Just which side of the coin is controlling them?

Some would say this is preposterous, and a very jaded view of these innocent DREAMers.

To that I say – just look at where the majority of illegals end up. That’s right – in liberal cities and states that provide the largest, easiest to obtain handouts. read more

Illegal Alien Students Are Still Illegal

by: the Common Constitutionalist

This past Friday an article was posted online from the Marietta Daily Journal entitled, “Immigrant Students Seek Georgia’s In-State Tuition“.

Right off the bat we see the apparent bias that is rampant throughout virtually all media. Did you notice the articles title is missing a very important component – the word illegal? This is all too typical – and frankly I’m not sure if it’s bias or just lazy reporting, or both.

I recently wrote that promotion leads to tolerance, tolerance leads to acceptance and acceptance leads to equality. Lazy reporting and advocacy has led to illegal immigration equaling immigration. There seems to be no more distinction. Okay, back to the article.

The Journal article pertains to a lawsuit that “roughly 3 dozen immigrants” filed in Georgia state court, asking a judge to grant them in-state tuition.

These young “immigrants” are children of illegal aliens. So therefore, they themselves are also in the U.S. illegally. read more

Illegal is the New Legal

by:

Barack Obama has already said he is not going to enforce the law of the land concerning illegal immigrants, which should make him eligible for impeachment, among other charges. But even as I write this article the Obama administration is preparing to grant amnesty to illegal immigrants by the end of the month. It will just cost them $465.

ABC News reports, using the term “undocumented worker” to refer to illegal immigrants to be politically correct,

The Department of Homeland Security today announced details of the application and approval process for the DREAM Act-like program, outlining specific eligibility requirements and a $465 fee. It will begin Aug. 15.

Illegal immigrants younger than 30 who came to the United States before age 16, have lived here for at least five years continuously, attend or have graduated from high school or college, and have no criminal convictions are eligible to submit requests for so-called deferred action (legalese for an official exemption from deportation).

The administration said documentation provided by each applicant will be reviewed individually on a case-by-case basis at one of four service centers run by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service. It’s unclear how long each review will take, but some immigrants are expected to receive temporary legal status before Election Day.

While the “dreamers” will not obtain a path to citizenship or the right to vote, Obama’s policy shift – circumventing Congress with executive action – has been widely seen as a politically motivated nod to Hispanics who have long sought the change.

No! Really? a polically motivated nod by this adminstration? I”m shocked! Of course it’s politically motivated.

Janet Napolitano claimed this was a process of compassion and common sense. In a statement, Napolitano said,

“Our nation’s immigration laws must be enforced in a firm and sensible manner. But they are not designed to be blindly enforced without consideration given to the individual circumstances of each case.

Nor are they designed to remove productive young people to countries where they may not have lived or even speak the language. Discretion, which is used in so many other areas, is especially justified here.”

The problem is that they are not enforcing immigration laws and Barack Obama stood in the Rose Garden and declared that he wasn’t. Now we find the administration is going to punish one of their own for doing just what she is talking about: enforcing immigration laws.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Lamar Smith put his finger on what the real issue is when he said,

“Today’s deferred action guidance is another example of how the president’s policies put the interests of illegal immigrants ahead of the interests of U.S. citizens and legal immigrants.”

“On the same day the unemployment rate rose to 8.3 percent, the Obama administration announced a requirement for illegal immigrants to apply to be able to work in the U.S. The administration’s guidelines don’t just encourage illegal immigrants to work in the U.S., they actually require them to apply to do so.”

Exactly right Mr. Chairman. Talk is cheap. Now stop him. You guys are Congress after all and you are the ones that make law, not the President.

Not only is Obama looking to stack the deck with illegals, but he’s also making a quick buck at it. I’m wondering just where that $465 per illegal is going to end up. Isn’t anyone else curious?

The Lost Island of New York

There is a small island not 350 yards from the shore of The Bronx, New York, called North Brother Island. It is situated in the East River between The Bronx and Riker’s Island.

From a distance it’s looks quite peaceful with it’s lush vegetation. It is now, but looks can be deceiving.

At the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th, New York welcomed a great many immigrants. The welcome wasn’t always pleasant.

Many of these poor immigrannts were forced to live in very cramped & unsanitary condidtions. Conditions that allowed for sickness and disease.

Diseases would inevitably spread and once the health authorities identified a person as having a communicable disease they were seized and forced to live on North Brother Island, where it was first employed as a quarantine centre in 1885.

Conditions were bad. The mortality rate among patients was high and the recovery rate low.

There was no telephone in the early days, so once people were grabbed and taken there, there familes often never heard from them again.

Its first unfortunate guests were patients with communicable diseases such as smallpox, tuberculosis, scarlet fever and diphtheria. There were six people suffering from leprosy confined there in wooden huts.

Living conditions were poor at best and when bad weather stopped ferries from running there were food shortages and in winter, frequently little heat. Incarceration on North Brother was often a death sentence. Those who did return from its shores spoke of a hellish environment like “the black hole of Calcutta”.

It’s most famous, or infamous resident was Mary Mallon, better known as “Typhoid Mary”. She was forcibly incarcerated on North Brother in 1907 until her release in 1910. She had to promise not to work at her former profession as a cook. She broke her promise and was returned to the island in 1915, where she resided in her own cottage on the island until her death in 1938.

In 1942, the island closed for the first time before being used to house World War II veterans who were studying in the city. That idea was quickly abandoned.

In 1952 it underwent its final transformation, hosting an experimental program to treat juvenile drug addicts. It was finally closed for good in 1963 where it remains abandoned and decaying to this day.

A local historian and photographer Ian Ference was granted access to the island. He states, “In 2008, I managed to get NYC park’s department permission to shoot the island. I’ve visited around 15 times since then, documenting what remains and the process of decay. I’m truly fortunate to have been given this exclusive access to one of America’s most significant forbidden places.”
