Our Loss of Meaning is Causing Mass-Shootings

from the Federalist:

We Killed God, Family, And Community — And Now It’s Killing Us

We have discarded social institutions that have helped people understand their value and place in the world for thousands of years. And their decline is not just mirrored in the rise of mass shootings.

Once upon a time, you had meaning. You knew you had meaning because you had a mom and a dad who told you so, a God who loved you, and a community that needed you.

Once upon a time, if something happened to you, a significant number of people would mourn your death — not only because you were a good person and a good friend, but also because the community would suffer without your presence and skills. Now, the vast majority of people can barely count on one hand the number of people whose life would be truly altered by their passing.

For the most part, it can easily feel like no one cares about you anymore. Your skills are ubiquitous, you have no true community, and God doesn’t exist. So what, you may ask, is exactly the point? read more

Gun Grabbers are just trying to make Maine a Safer Place

by: the Common Constitutionalist

On November 4th, the Fiscal Times posted an article filled with hope for gun-grabbers. They began by first bemoaning that the federal legislature, controlled by those waskily Wepublicans, has dropped the ball on gun control. Naturally the reason is because all republicans are beholden to the NRA and the gun lobby – not due to the second most important Amendment in the U.S. Constitution. No – that can’t be it.

But the silver lining according to the Times, is that some States have the opportunity on election day to usurp the feds, and more importantly the Constitution, and pass their own gun restrictions, despite the fact that the Second Amendment holds preeminence over all state gun laws. When has this ever mattered to democrats?

The article states that four such States have their chance to act unconstitutionally. These are California, Maine, Nevada and Washington state. Of course this article wouldn’t state such a thing – I’m just pointing out what the true intent of their ballot initiatives are.

As Maine is right next door, I decided I would concentrate on it. Lucky for me, one of the anti-gun nuts the Times quotes is from Maine. read more

‘Shoot-to-kill mentality’ hits home for Dwayne Wade

Last month (July 13), four black NBA superstars took the stage at this years politically correct sports awards show, the ESPYs.

Of course anything on or having to do with the sports network ESPN or its affiliates is left-leaning and politically correct – quite often more rabidly than the liberal news media.

We learned that fact long ago (2003), when the network hired Rush Limbaugh to do a segment on its popular football show, “NFL Sunday Countdown,” telling him he could say anything he likes and then firing him for doing just that. read more

Podcast – The British Take Their Country Back – A Liberal Websites Honest Reporting on Guns

In this episode I discuss Brexit, the exit of merry old England from that socialist cesspool known as the European Union. Despite the dire predictions from elites the world over and the leftist press, the British people still pulled the lever for sovereignty. From that day forward, anything negative that occurs in England will be blamed on the stupidity of the British people. How dare they wish to govern themselves!

In segment two, I am stunned by a relatively equitable and honest accounting of guns, gun violence and gun owners by a liberal British website. Congratulations to the Guardian for having the courage to actually listen to gun owners and NRA members and report on the interactions fairly. read more

Gun Violence Will Be Tops at the State of the Union

by: the Common Constitutionalist

Obama has begun his final year full court press to secure his legacy. He knows the clock is ticking and he must undo as much of the Constitution as possible prior to his exit. I believe one reason he appears to be pushing so hard is that he believes Hillary Clinton, one way or the other, will not win. She will either lose in the general election or her criminal behavior will finally catch up to her – therefore be unable to extend his radical legacy.

Of course one of the major issues for any statist is to begin the process of disarming the citizenry. So Obama has hit the road – giving speeches – using what Teddy Roosevelt called his “Bully Pulpit,” to spread his message of gun control.

As a slight aside, you’ve probably noticed that Obama, the Dems nor the press is promoting “gun safety.” See, the word “safety” carries with it a positive tone. When leftists speak of guns, which are as everyone knows inherently evil, they must take care not to detract from that message of evil with a word like “safety.”

Therefore, for leftists, guns must be forever linked with violence – thus the newly minted and focus group tested Democrat phrase, “Gun Violence.” Watch and listen for it – it’s everywhere. read more

Come Visit Chicago…You May Live Long Enough to Leave

by: the Common Constitutionalist

Just this past weekend it was reported that an 11-year-old girl was shot and killed in Chicago by a stray bullet.

Shamiya Adams was at a sleepover Friday night. The girls were making s’mores when gunshots rang out nearby. Evidently one of the bullets entered the house, struck and killed her.

In fact, a total of 22 people were shot just that Friday night in Chicago. And just a few weeks after 60 were shot over the Fourth of July weekend. That’s 26 more than were shot over the same holiday weekend in 2013.

Virtually all the shootings have been black on black, or Latino or let’s just say, minority on minority.

Yet, when reporting on the child shooting incident, ThinkProgress felt compelled to report that “A recent study found that African Americans were 10 times more likely to be shot by police than white people.”

Huh? None of the reported shootings were by police, yet the leftist radicals at ThinkProgress can’t help themselves. They have to somehow weave the “evil cops” into their narrative.

Of course ThinkProgress will never conclude that Chicago’s “gun violence” problem has anything to do with the city’s ridiculous anti-gun laws. read more

Gun Education vs Sex Education

by: the Common Constitutionalist

With the most recent senseless killings at a California university, gun control is once again front and center.

Although Joe the plumber didn’t word it correctly, we all know what he meant. A killing spree by an obvious whack job gives no one the right to either confiscate our weapons or pass knee-jerk, feel-good laws that inhibit only the reasonable and law-abiding.

Interestingly, I don’t hear an outcry for knife control. After all, the lunatic in California didn’t just use a gun to kill.

With what seems to be a recent rash of unhinged young killers, the debate has progressed from not just gun control but America’s “gun culture”, and what can be done to limit our children’s “exposure” to guns and gun violence.

Guns have always been a part of American society, but some say our children are becoming saturated by it, thus desensitizing them. Many point to movies and video games as the main culprits.

To a point, I agree with them. The most popular action movies and video games are shoot-em up thrillers. I can see how some less than well-adjusted kids could easily be sucked into shoot-em up fantasies – where you get shot or killed in the game, then magically get to re-spawn or start over.

But that’s what parenting is all about. It is our job to teach them what the real world is like – where if you get shot, you don’t get up. read more

Bloomberg Finances Another Anti-Gun Group

by: the Common Constitutionalist

Last week I received an e-mail from my good [email protected] regarding Michael Bloomberg’s latest attempt at confiscating all our guns.

The e-mail blast said that Bloomberg will be spending $50 million on gun reform. Now since I don’t know what “gun reform” is I read on, asking myself whether I believe my guns needed reforming?

It turns out that the e-mail blast was not focused on Bloomberg’s efforts, but one of the many wack job organizations that he will be funding with his $50 million.

The organization, and particularly its founder, that MoveOn.org was focused on is “Moms Demand Action for Guns Sense in America” and its founder Shannon Watts.

MoveOn describes Ms. Watts as a supermom, who evidently has time for her five children and also to fight the evils of “gun violence”. They describe her as a force of nature communicator and the NRA’s worst nightmare. Ooh – scary! read more

Is this Chicago or Cairo?

by: the Common Constitutionalist

Despite being seemingly bumped from the front pages, gun control is alive and well. Gabrielle Giffords and her husband showed up in New Hampshire last week to promote their anti-gun agenda. It appears as if Mayor Bloomberg is fronting the money for this nationwide tour. Big shocker.

Since the Newtown shooting it seems there haven’t been any mass murders. “Gun violence” in America seems to have temporarily subsided. We haven’t heard of any shootings in months.

Could that really be or is it just not being reported? Well, you’d be smart to choose the latter.

There is in fact gun violence and it’s happening in a most unexpected place; Chicago, Obama’s hometown. Correction: to anyone who pays attention, it is completely expected.

I hope everyone had a nice relaxing Independence Day holiday weekend; parades, picnics, family gatherings.

You may have done those things but the people of Chicago spent their long weekend dodging bullets. Of course watching, listening to or reading any national media, one would never know.

In Chicago, over the holiday weekend, a mere 74 people were shot and 12 were killed. That’s from Wednesday night to Sunday night!

This happens month after month, year after year in a city with possibly the strictest gun control in the country. The totals for 2013 and we’re only halfway, are 870 shot and wounded, 180 shot and killed and 211 total homicides (knives, clubs, fists, etc.).

So why is this not front page, above the fold in the New York Times? Why did I not see the weekend’s carnage when I opened my Internet browser? Could it be the mainstream press really does have an agenda? Could be.

Who is the mayor of Chicago? Oh that’s right, it’s Rahm Emanuel, friend of both the Clinton’s and Obama.

The media wouldn’t actually try to paper over the 1037 murders that have occurred since 2011 when Rahm took office would they? I’m sure that’s the farthest thing from the truth.

So let’s check the Internet. Pick a search engine. I tried both Google and Bing. There were many reports of the weekend violence, but all were from conservative or local/regional sites. Nothing from the Times online, MSNBC, Washington Post, et al.

Several page searches in, I did stumble upon a CNN article. Frankly I was stunned to find they would report on it. I can’t say I was surprised to find that CNN, with a positive spin, actually reported gun violence was down. The report claimed that the city was making progress but according to officials there was much to be done. That’s an understatement! But after closer examination I noticed the article was from June, when only 40 were murdered and 225 shot and wounded. That’s progress?

They can try to sugarcoat this all they want but heck, there were more people shot in Chicago this past weekend than in Egypt.

So do your own search and tell me that the press doesn’t have an agenda, or maybe they just don’t think blacks being shot and murdered is important, unless your name is Trayvon.

An Assault on Weapons

by: the Common Constitutionalist

As a result of the Newtown Connecticut shootings more and more Statists in local, state and federal government are not asking but demanding knee-jerk measures to control what they classify as “Gun Violence”.

gun violenceAs you read this or any article, listen to the radio or watch television; always remember the language shifts that the left employees. In this case it is no longer gun control, but is now gun violence, because no one could ever be in favor of gun violence.

Many states like New York have enacted far-reaching gun restrictions on their law-abiding citizens and by now most of heard or seen the ranting of that dopey police chief from Emeryville California, Ken James. In a recent press conference chief James exclaimed, “One issue that boggles my mind is that the idea that a gun is a defensive weapon. That is a myth. A gun is not a defensive weapon. A gun is an offensive weapon used to intimidate and show power. Police officers don’t carry a gun as a defensive weapon to defend themselves or their other officers. They carry a gun to be able to do their job in a safe and effective manner and face oppositions we may come upon.”

So chief James, when a police officer somehow finds him or herself in a threatening situation and he/she draws their weapon, it is not to defend themselves or others? That’s just inane on its face and you sir, are a moron. Is the California police Creed not to protect and serve but to intimidate and show power? Nice motto.

California has some of the strictest gun laws in the nation yet they are pushing a new massive gun control package. California Senate President pro tem, Democrat Darrell Steinberg said, “We can save lives” in defending the package. He continued, “If it was a defensive measure why did we lose 55 officers nationwide last year to gun violence? We are asking and have been asking for reasonable regulations, not that are going to impact the legal gun owner.”

First, notice the injection of the new buzzword “gun violence”. Second, who else would it “impact” you idiot; the criminals? Criminals don’t obey the law or regulations. That’s what makes them criminals.New-Featured-Guns

Although it is completely misguided and anathema to the Constitution, I understand why states such as New York and California enact ridiculous laws and regulations to control their populations. These states are controlled and run by Statists and do-gooders. They don’t feel we citizens can live our lives without constant guidance and dictates from our overseers. I was surprised when hearing that Missouri was jumping onto the gun-grab train.

In the most brazen attempt yet, Missouri Democrats introduced a retroactive anti-gun bill. If passed Missouri residents will have 90 days to turn in their guns. The bill reads in part, “any person who, prior to the effective date of this law, was legally in possession of an assault weapon or large capacity magazine shall have 90 days from such effective date to do any of the following without being subject to prosecution. 1) Remove the assault weapon or large capacity magazine from the state of Missouri; 2) render the assault weapon permanently inoperable; 3) surrender the assault weapon or large capacity magazine to the appropriate law enforcement agency for destruction, subject to specific agency regulations. 4) Unlawful manufacture, import, possession, purchase, sale, or transfer of an assault weapon or large capacity magazine is a class C felony.”

Gun-GrabSo essentially the law would turn a law-abiding gun owner today, into a potential felon tomorrow. And it won’t be long before the feds mimic the states actions; but it will be worse.

I believe that national gun-grab legislation will be proposed, but will either be severely watered down or rejected outright. Both Congressman and Senators understand that most of the voting public won’t stand for it.

So, in will step Herr Obama and prove that the pen is mightier than the sword or the gun. With an executive order, he will begin the confiscation of all weapons. Yes I did say all weapons. Oh, it will begin with something similar to the Missouri proposal. You know, just turn in your scary guns. It will not; I repeat, will not end there.

How could he do such a thing? He could never think to get away with it, you say. Well, we haven’t been in the way back machine a while. Buckle up Sherman. Flipped the switch Mr. Peabody. Set it for the gold confiscation of 1933.

Just a few short months after winning election in 1932, Franklin Roosevelt signed Executive Order 6102 and an improved version in August of ‘33, order 6260, making it illegal, with few exceptions, for a private citizen to own or possess gold. Of course, they didn’t describe it as just innocuously owning gold. They called it “hoarding”. And of course, “hoarding” is bad and only bad people hoard things.executive-order

Franklin’s decree (Executive Order) power came from, he said: “by the authority vested in me” and another mandate, the “National Emergency in Banking Relief and Trading with the Enemy Act” or War Powers Act. That hero of the left and all around good guy, Woodrow Wilson, decreed the War Powers Act.

The 1917 act was to “define, regulate and punish trading with the enemy, and for other purposes”. I love the addition of “for other purposes” which was never defined. How convenient. The war Powers act of 1917 did at least exclude citizens of the United States. The Roosevelt gold confiscation order of 1933, however, chnged the language to include “any person within the United States or any place subject to the jurisdiction thereof”. Suddenly, any citizen owning gold became an enemgreat depressiony of the United States government.

As an aside, you may notice a common clause inserted in the text of essentially every PEO (Presidential Executive Order). That is “by the authority vested in me…”, whether the president actually has the authority is of no account, as long as he says he does. Neat trick, eh.

This is the type of regulatory statism that is born of fear and hubris. Remember, no matter what the era, a progressive will always think the same way. Don’t let a crisis go to waste. In times of crisis, either real or fabricated, fascists in government can accomplish what they could never think to do without. The worst legislation and decrees always involve some sort of national crisis.

In 1933, we were suffering through the worst depression in our history. Fear of economic collapse was on everybody’s mind. A perfect time for a progressive “Administrator ” to grab the reins from the people and lead them into… The Great Depression! By confiscating the one thing that citizens had of intrinsic value, Roosevelt blew out the only candle of economic survival available to ordinary Americans struggling mightily during the dark days of the Depression.

And back to today. The lefts push of gun control into crisis is all too predictable for those who understand their M.O. They cannot allow this opportunity to go cold. They are striking as quickly and as forcefully as they are able. They understand if the crisis wanes, they will lose that window.

This is why I believe Obama will simply sign a PEO to begin the process of control and then confiscation of our guns. I would also bet my life that the PEO was written long ago, probably by someone like Cass Sunstein, along with many others, just sitting in a drawer somewhere, to be pulled out at the opportune moment.
