DC Residents had Better see Through the New Vision Zero Bill

The goal of the omnibus Vision Zero bill, from council member Charles Allen of Ward 6, is to decrease the number of traffic accidents with pedestrians and cyclists,” writes the Washington Examiner.

At first blush, it may appear to be a “traffic safety bill,” but reading further, the additional proposals make obvious what this really is. The “Vision Zero bill” is a government command and control / Green New Deal style bill, disguised as a traffic safety bill.

The main takeaway of the bill, that many conservative chronicles gleaned, is that neighbors will be allowed to effectively write their own parking tickets – turning otherwise harmless busy-bodies into traffic cops.

Now, knowing that the police can’t be everywhere, the aforementioned D.C. council member Charles Allen of Ward 6 proposes that, “certain residents,” be given the authority, “to write out parking tickets to their neighbors.” read more

The Only Thing Renewable About Solar Energy is Failure

by: the Common Constitutionalist

We all remember Solyndra, the solar panel manufacturer that in May 2010 Obama heralded as “leading the way toward a brighter and more prosperous future.” It was the poster child of his new “Green Energy” movement in America. As part of his slush fund dressed up as a stimulus package, he granted Solyndra over $500 million in loan guarantees, which they gobbled up and in return handed the taxpayer a crap sandwich.

A little over a year later, on August 31, 2011, Solyndra filed for bankruptcy, costing us taxpayers a mere $535 million. The problem though is much worse and much more widespread than just the well-publicized Solyndra debacle.

Only 3-1/2 years into Obama’s presidency, some 34 solar companies had already gone broke, laid off their workforces or were on the verge of bankruptcy. All took government – I mean our money and in all cases we lost virtually every dollar. Companies went belly up owing from hundreds of thousands of dollars to hundreds of millions. Do not take investment advice from Obama!

By the end of December 2014, between the U.S. and Europe, the number totaled 112. But despite all the federal, state and local subsidies tax credits and mandates, domestic manufacturers still could not make it. So that same year the “Solar Lobby,” as if they need one, got Obama to slap hefty tariffs on Chinese solar equipment manufacturers of anywhere between 26 and 42%. This obviously made the more expensive American equipment instantly more attractive. read more

If You Want Less of Something, Tax It – If You Want More, Subsidize It

by: the Common Constitutionalist

The bain of the private sector is taxes. Everyone knows this. Taxes lead to less hiring (except for tax accountants and attorneys), less profit and companies are less competitive. And the higher the tax rate, the worse it all becomes.

On the flip side, subsidization can be a boon to the private sector. If your company is lucky enough or connected enough to somehow get your product(s) subsidized, you are assured of more sales. It’s a great deal! By having your product or business subsidized, you can effectively undercut your competition and sell many more units than you otherwise would.

But how does one get their product subsidized, and who would be stupid enough to do such a thing? The answer to the “who” question is the government. State and municipal governments often offer huge tax incentives to lure companies to set up shop. Sometimes the incentives to these companies are zero taxes for a period of time. This is a form of indirect subsidy, allowing the company to lower it’s costs and increase the margin on its products lowering the price of the product(s). The company obviously benefits from a lessened tax burden, and the state or city benefits from increased employment. It’s a win-win.

Then there are federal government subsidies, which are directed to a certain product or industry. These days it’s the “green” industry. Everything “green” or “renewable” is heavily subsidized by the feds. This arrangement is a win-lose. The subsidized never has to reimburse the subsidizer. read more

Luxury Tax History Repeating Itself

by: the Common Constitutionalist

Since 2008, tens of thousands of coal related jobs have been lost – some almost incalculable. As hundreds of coal plants have been closed, it is not just miners who are affected. As power plants close, all employees lose their jobs. Blue collar and white collar employees get the ax – managers, technicians, secretaries, everyone.

But that’s not where it ends. Many of these coal plants are located in rural areas. They have whole towns that spring up around them, as townspeople not only work at the plant, but small businesses are created, like restaurants, gas and service stations, grocery and convenience stores, laundromats, dry cleaners, and list goes on – all to support the plant and its employees. As these plants go away, so too do all the support businesses and all their employees.

But this rings hollow to the Obama administration. Obama cares only for himself and his radical agenda, for once again, due to his Marxist, redistributionist, green agenda, history is about to repeat itself.

Obama’s radical green agenda is about to ruin yet another industry. He and other radicals will consider it a win-win as Obama gets to not only advance his phony green plan, but at the same time, his new rule will also redistribute wealth.

Who’s the target? This time it’s the Luxury yacht industry. read more

Unions Sour On Green Aganda

In a colossal “See, We Told You So”, it seems even Unions are souring on The Obama “Green” agenda. The shame of it is that probably 90% of them voted for their own potential demise by voting for Obama.

from IBD:

Well, well. Another big union has publicly declared that its members are the real front-line victims of the Obama administration’s war on domestic energy production.

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers came out with guns blazing this week against the Environmental Protection Agency’s proposed Clean Power Plan.

In a press release, it warns what we’ve been saying about these economically masochistic carbon emission regulations from the start: “They will kill more than 150,000 good jobs while having a minimal effect on global greenhouse emissions.” read more
