Fundamentally Transforming the EPA

from the American Spectator:

The EPA is Only Useful When the Left Controls It

Let me state for the record that there should be no federal Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards. If States wish to regulate themselves to death, let them.

Despite my misgivings that these types of federal regulations are unconstitutional, if CAFE Standards are to become law, they should, at the very least, have to be passed by Congress, where all laws must originate.

That being said, the last time Congress passed a law which included fuel efficiency standards was 2007 – more than a decade ago.

Congress first established CAFE standards in 1975. They set the average fuel economy of the new car fleet to 27.5 mpg by model year (MY) 1985. Then, under “conservative” George W. Bush, Congress passed and the president signed the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007. Don’t you love the bogus names they give these egregious pieces of legislation?

Anyway, the new legislation raised the fuel economy standards of America’s cars, light trucks, and SUVs to a combined average of at least 35 miles per gallon by 2020—a 10 mpg increase over 2007 levels—and required standards to be met at maximum feasible levels through 2030. read more

Say Goodbye to the Obama Era

from IBD:

Trump Dismantles Another Obama ‘Achievement’ — Just One More To Go

This week, the Trump administration announced that it would revise President Obama’s draconian auto fuel economy mandates. That alone is big news. But it marks the near total reversal of Obama’s anti-growth domestic policies. That’s bigger news.

EPA head Scott Pruitt said Tuesday that the administration would rewrite Obama’s fuel economy standards starting with model year 2022. Obama’s plan was to mandate that all cars sold average 54.5 miles per gallon by 2025, up from 38.3 mpg this year.

As we have repeatedly explained in this space, Obama’s fuel economy mandate was little more than a thinly disguised electric car mandate, since hitting that level would have required a substantial increase in plug-in sales. As it stands, there are only a handful of powered cars that can go more than 54 miles on a gallon of gas.

Pruitt said that, instead of trying to force consumers into more expensive cars that environmentalists like, the focus at the EPA will be “on making cars that people actually buy and that are efficient.” read more

Trump’s EPA is Downsized

from the Washington Beacon:

Hundreds of EPA Employees Have Quit Under Trump

Over 700 employees at the Environmental Protection Agency have quit or taken early retirement during the Trump administration so far, bringing the agency close to employment levels not seen since Reagan.

ThinkProgress, whose senior editor is scared of his plumber who he fears may have voted for Trump, is warning that the exodus will lead to “dirtier air” and “dirtier water.” read more

Video Podcast – Trump is Beating Back EPA Regs – Nanny State Shuts Down Lemonade Stand

Trump’s EPA is rolling back regulations from the Obama radicals by shelving around 860 regulatory actions the last administration tried to sneak in, including the Clean Water Act.

The British Nanny State thugs shut down a 5 year old girls lemonade stand and fine her about $200. But it’s not just jolly ole England. It’s happening all over America. read more

Global Warming Science – It’s Settled – They Lied Again

by: the Common Constitutionalist

How many times would you put up with being cheated on in a relationship? How many times would you tolerate being lied to? Is it one and done? Or maybe 2 – 3 – a half a dozen?

Obviously, this is a loaded question. It would depend on a number of factors. Independence vs. interdependence – or maybe just how forgiving a person is. Maybe it’s a relationship of convenience – like the Clintons – more a business partnership than a personal, loving relationship.

But what if the relationship were between you and cause? A cause you felt so strongly for, people considered you “wedded” to it. A cause like…oh…I don’t know…Global Warming.

What if you were all-in on man caused global warming because, as experts have oft-repeated, the science of global warming is settled? But then you found out that the cause you’ve been wedded to is almost entirely a lie? What would you do? You just may have to reevaluate your loyalty. read more

Our Government is Being Taken Over From Within

by: the Common Constitutionalist

We Constitutionalists have been warning America, for as long as I can remember, that the federal government will eventually grow to a size that is “too big to fail.”

Well, according to one author, that time is now. And because America sat back, content to watch the behemoth feed and grow, we are now witnessing an administrative coup.

The following are excerpts from an article at The Federalist entitled, “We Are Watching A Slow-Motion Coup D’etat.”

In this rather lengthy article (which is why I am merely sharing excerpts), the author, James Downton, astutely describes that we are currently witnessing a takeover of our government and our nation by the unelected Bureaucratic State.

Despite the length of the article, I would encourage everyone to read it. It’s well worth it. Downton doesn’t appear to be a particular fan of President Trump – just of small ‘r’ republicanism.

From the Article:

It’s nearly incontrovertible that a slow-motion coup d’etat is now taking place. Since November 9, 2016, forces within the U.S. government, media, and partisan opposition have aligned to overthrow the Electoral College winner, Donald Trump. read more

I Never Thought I Would Say This, but I Love the EPA

Needless to say I was really disappointed at the roll out and outcome of the Republican ObamaCare “fix.” And I’m sure I’m not the only one. So much so, that I went in search of some good news.

Son of a gun if I didn’t find some. It’s doubly good because it not only benefits us and America, but is driving the left batty. And it’s one of my hot button issues. Wins all around!

The Huffington Post somberly posted an article yesterday entitled, “Donald Trump Is About To Undo Obama’s Legacy On Climate Change.” From the left’s point of view, the subtitle, “The White House plans to scrap a rule on power plant emissions, kneecapping U.S. participation in the Paris climate accord,” is equally sobering. Ain’t it grand!

It’s funny, but it seems that left to do the things he is able to on his own, President Trump already has a good track record. Things go off the rails when the establishment wing of Congress gets involved, like RINOCare.

Now I’m certainly not advocating for Trump usurping the Legislative branch like the last guy did – I’m just stating the obvious. read more

My WND Weekly Exclusive

DO REPUBLICANS WANT TO CRIPPLE GOVERNMENT?

Do we really want a “nimble” federal government? Or do we want one that is slow, plodding and methodical. I suppose it depends on whom you ask.

Anyone (hopefully) on the right, and who is a friend to the Constitution, would surely say they would vastly prefer a government that operates much as does an aircraft carrier. Although much of these things are classified to some extent, it can take, for example, up to five nautical miles just to stop a carrier – much less to reverse course. In other words – far from nimble – which is exactly what the founders intended to slow the intrusive creep of government. read more

Has Trump Scored Another Win with his EPA Selection

by: the Common Constitutionalist

Trump appears to be scoring a lot of points with the right, regarding his recent Cabinet selections. Just days after he selected Dr. Tom Price for Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS), he appears to have scored another potential winner. To learn more of Dr. Price, you may link to my article profiling him here.

This latest Trump selection is for the business and industry-killing Cabinet position of head of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). As we know, the EPA has done more than practically any other agency to set back the American economy and kill any attempted recovery. The current Director, Gina McCarthy, is a radical environmentalist with, amongst other things, a stated goal of killing off the entire American coal industry, not to mention oil, fracking, and any other industry she finds objectionable.

Her regulatory authoritarianism has been virtually unmatched and unchallenged. And she is evidently far from done. McCarthy is going down swinging in the waning hours of the Obama reign. I recently quoted her as saying: “As I’ve mentioned to you before, we’re running — not walking — through the finish line of President Obama’s presidency,” Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Gina McCarthy wrote agency employees the day after the Nov. 8 election. “Thank you for taking that run with me. I’m looking forward to all the progress that still lies ahead.” read more
