Republicans Cave to Donor Immigration Wishes

by: John Velisek USN (ret) for the Common Constitutionalist

The tax cuts and wage hikes have come to the American people as a godsend. More money in a working man’s pocket is always a positive event. But there is a movement afoot being pushed by the GOP establishment, and their corporate donors that support them, to align with the progressive socialists on a push for amnesty.

A discharge petition written by the GOP, and spearheaded by Florida GOP Rep. Carlos Curbelo, is demanding that amnesty should be “as high a number as possible,” according to what Curbelo told Roll Call.

The donors are calling the shots in an effort to assure a steady stream of immigrants, both legal and illegal, to fill the low wage jobs that the donors create for a profit and at the expense of the American working man and the rule of law.

Part of this agenda is the attempt to convince the American people that this influx of low skilled low educated workforce is good for America. The polls being paraded across the televisions of America show poll after poll of American approval of immigrants. What it does not make clear is the same people they use in their polls adhere to President Trumps’ ideology of America First. Those same respondents have clearly shown that Americans should be hired first at prevailing wages before hiring migrants. It’s not that they are jobs that Americans won’t do, but Americans need a living wage to do them. read more

Jim Jordan Says no DACA, DREAMer Deal

Nice to know we still a few sane people left in Washington!

from the Washington Examiner:

Jim Jordan: Freedom Caucus won’t support joint immigration package with the border wall, DACA

Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, was adamant Sunday he would not accept an immigration bill dealing with both increased border security and a pathway for citizenship for so-called Dreamers, or immigrants who came to the U.S. illegally as children. read more

Video Podcast – White House Immigration Framework is a Colossal Joke

by: Brent Smith at the Common Constitutionalist

What can be said about the White House Framework on Immigration Reform & Border Security. The only word I can think of is that it’s a travesty.

The framework is shaping up to be just another big government boondoggle devoid of conservative substance and replete with liberal giveaways.

The Framework, with its coddling of illegal aliens and reward of citizenship is, or should be, a personal affront to any American citizen, and especially to every legal immigrant. Most who spent years of time and much money to do it the right way.

I’m praying that I wake soon and realize this has all been a bad dream, because as it stands, it is merely a bad joke. read more

The White House Immigration Framework is a Nightmare

Lately I’ve be telling everyone not to panic over what Trump is saying in regards to DACA, the DREAMers and illegals in general. I’ve said not to place too much on what Trump says, but rather what he ends up doing.

But I have to say, it is difficult to do this time around. It’s difficult to dismiss, as this is not just Trump spouting off to some reporter. This is a written framework, written by the White House and released to Republican lawmakers. You may review it here, and I strongly suggest you do.

The White House Immigration “framework” proposal begins with the following:

The Department of Homeland Security must have the tools to deter illegal immigration; the ability to remove individuals who illegally enter the United States; and the vital authorities necessary to protect national security.

Wow. That sounds quite forceful, and comprehensive. And it is…comprehensive. Unfortunately, in Washington, comprehensive doesn’t mean what we think. To politicians, comprehensive is code for overly and purposely complicated, filled with loads of crap that detract from the President’s originally stated intent. That was, of course, to build a great wall along the entire Southern border and deport people here illegally. As illegal immigration is one of my “hot buttons,” it was one of the primary reasons I voted for him. read more

Trump says No Wall, No DREAMers

by: Brent Smith at the Common Constitutionalist

“Donald Trump demanded on Friday that any deal to resolve the fate of young undocumented migrants [DREAMers] must be paired with funding for a wall along the southern US border,” reports The Guardian.

How rude. Doesn’t Trump know that only liberals are permitted to “demand” things? The rest of us are to either shut up or ask politely, then accept whatever Chuck Schumer decides.

This opening statement by the Guardian follows a rather sad photo of a mother and her melancholy child. Although the photo’s caption doesn’t name the two as illegal, this is the obvious inference, as both look Hispanic and are seated in front of sign that reads, “Don’t Separate Families.”

“There are about 700,000 so-called Dreamers [sic], undocumented migrants brought to the US as children. In September. Trump announced that he was rescinding the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or Daca, a policy implemented by Barack Obama in 2012 that allowed Dreamers to come out of the shadows to study and work legally in the US. Trump placed the fate of the young immigrants squarely in the hands of Congress, giving lawmakers until 5 March to find a legislative solution.”

Well – where to begin with this load of crap, written in a way to sound like factual, objective reporting. And to anyone unfamiliar, this does sound like legitimate, dispassionate reporting. Unfortunately for us – most will read this as real news. read more

Leftist Latinos Demand End to Free Speech

by: the Common Constitutionalist

It’s a fact – possibly provable by science – that what little common sense many high school kids have, rapidly fades away when they go off to college. With any and all parental supervision removed, students believe they have license to be stupid.

Such it was at Cornell University, when a student and member of the Zeta Psi fraternity was heard chanting, “build that wall.”

The chant was heard, “near the Latino Living Center early Wednesday morning, less than 24 hours after President Donald Trump ordered the end of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals [DACA] program,” writes the Cornell Daily Sun.

To clarify the above statement, as the Cornell Daily Sun will surely not, President Trump did not “end” the DACA program. He suspended it for six months to allow the correct branch of government, the Legislative, to craft a lawful solution.

They, like all other leftist journals, would prefer their readers to believe racist Trump just ended it. I’m not defending Trump’s decision. As it was an illegal action, I think he should have just ended it and left it at that, but I’m not president. read more

Enough Broken Promises Mr. President

by: the Common Constitutionalist

Why are we wasting our time talking about DACA? As much as I hate giving up on an issue, this one is a waste of our energies. The 800,000 (to start) illegal aliens are here to stay. And make no mistake – they are illegal aliens. Whether they are said to be “protected” by an illegal presidential action appears to be irrelevant.

Obama knew, as do the majority of the political left, that it has become easy to just create an entitlement class. Obama simply used a “stop me if you dare” executive memo to do so. With no such authority, he singlehandedly established, what Michelle Malkin describes  as a new “deserving” class.

She frustratingly repeats the tiresome refrain of DREAMer advocates:

“They don’t deserve to be punished.”
“They deserve protection.”
“They deserve the American dream.”
Deserve, deserve, deserve.

And why? Well – there is no why. There no longer has to be. Obama and the left knew that all they needed was time. Enough time for our political class to grow comfortable with idea of a new entitlement group. Time is the friend of all entitlements. They knew that given enough time, the new entitlement would become the new normal. Once it is installed and a little time is allowed to pass, it’s there for good. read more

Nothing More Important than Saving DACA

by: the Common Constitutionalist

President Trump appears to be as good as his campaign promise – to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program illegally instituted by Obama.

Well, he kind of did and kind of didn’t. Although some on the right are praising him for ending the amnesty program, he did so with a caveat.

It seems nothing can be done cleanly in Washington. There must always be an exception or fine print.

Although the DACA program will not accept new arrivals, and that’s good, Trump did give Congress the opportunity, with a 6 month deadline, to “fix it” by way of legislation.

This of course is the way any immigration policy should be defined – by a law – crafted and passed by Congress, which has sole purview over all matters concerning naturalization, and by extension, immigration.

CNN reports that, “Under existing law, before DACA, these children were just as subject to deportation as their parents, even though they were blameless in the decision to cross the border and most have known no other home besides the United States.” read more

Video Podcast – I’m Dreamin of an End to DACA

by: the Common Constitutionalist

Today I discuss DACA, the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.

President Trump has plans to end Obama’s signature program this Tuesday. Let’s hope he does. I explain why DACA is unfair to Americans and frankly is illegal and unconstitutional. Recall that the program was cooked up and sent out as a memo, called an Executive Action.

I also discuss Florida Governor Rick Scott’s convoluted position in favoring the DACA program. He wants to make the Dream Act permanent. Good for him – NOT. read more

ICE Detains Illegal After Speech

This is the way it’s supposed to work!

from the Clarion-Ledger:

Moments after an immigrant spoke out about her fears of deportation, she was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Daniela Vargas, 22, was detained by ICE agents Wednesday morning, shortly after speaking at a news conference in downtown Jackson, according to her attorney, Abby Peterson.

The news conference was hosted by local immigration attorneys, churches and the Mississippi Immigrants Rights Alliance to bring attention to families impacted by deportation. read more
