It will be great! Take the Second Amendment. You know – “A well regulated Militia…” Instead, we can change it to read “A well regulated Internet, being necessary for the continuation of free access (defined by the FCC) to the World Wide Web, the right of the people to high-speed service shall not be infringed, except by the FCC.”
20 years ago, I could never have imagined having the ability to go on the Internet, build a website and just start expressing myself. And anyone (well, almost) on the planet can access that information. It’s astounding! That’s real freedom. The founders would be proud.
One of the major complaints is, without net neutrality, cable and phone companies can and will charge content providers an extra fee for delivering content. Well, for the little to average guy, in my opinion, that isn’t going to happen. That fee will be reserved for large streaming services like Netflix, YouTube, Amazon, etc.
But now our government, under the lie of fairness, proposes to regulate it. And this will somehow be better for everyone? Is this the same government that runs the post office, Obamacare, public schools, student loan programs and immigration? Are these the same folks that regulate our air, water, energy, land, power grid and airwaves? Those guys?
With millions of dollars at their disposal, the government couldn’t even design a workable healthcare website. Yet somehow, an entity that has never solved a single problem will be good for the Internet.
So what will happen if we allow the government to get its hooks into the Internet?
We all know what a smart meter is. It’s supposed to better monitor and control our homes electrical usage. Were you aware that that heavily regulated, government controlled electric/power company, a public utility, can remotely manipulate your electricity usage? But they would never do that – right?
So, after the cable companies and telecoms are reclassified as public utilities, don’t be surprised if you receive a notification saying by such and such a date, everyone must swap out their old “outdated” modems and routers for new “smart” equipment. That way everything can be monitored and fairness of access can be assured for all. Doesn’t that sound nice and not at all like big brother? But that will never happen – right?
Making Internet providers public utilities will be great. You know what else will be great? Having to eventually obtain a broadcast license from the FCC to post this article.
Net neutrality is not about fairness, equity, access or freedom. It’s quite the opposite. As Glenn Beck says – it’s about silencing dissent. It’s about shutting us up and shutting us down.
If you’re still not convinced that net neutrality will be no good, do what I do, when I can’t find the time to do proper research.
Go on the Internet (while it is still free) and just look to see who is in favor of net neutrality. Center for American Progress, ThinkProgress, Media Matters and the Marxist Free Press, are just some of the most far left groups aligning with Obama to push for net neutrality.
If I knew nothing about net neutrality, it’s a safe bet, that if they are for it, we should be against it.
