What’s Bigger Than LeBron?

The news has made headlines all over the country and not just in the sports world. Basketball great LeBron James is going home – back to Cleveland, where it all began.

Yes, of course it’s the lead story on all 52 ESPN channels. That’s to be expected, but they’ve been discussing it nonstop on the NFL network, the network dedicated exclusively to football. No not fútbol… football. You know, the real man’s sport. Yeah, that’s a little dig at all you dopey FIFA fans.

Anyway, I even saw a segment about LeBron on the Golf Channel. Really? The Golf Channel?

So, I ask you – what’s bigger, more important, more newsworthy than LeBron? Evidently nothing.

The Twitterverse just exploded over the news. Tweets blasting out – columns hurriedly written in order to be the first to announce this earth shattering news.

No more attention has been paid than to this announcement.

Not the ever deepening V.A. scandal, where it’s been discovered that tens of millions of dollars in “merit” bonuses and overpayments were paid for clearing up the backlog by effectively killing off our heroes in desperate need of treatment. Everyone but the veterans benefited – down to lowly clerks and support staff.

But that’s not bigger than LeBron.

How about the EPA gone wild – where reports indicate they regularly overstep their authority. Fines that drive ordinary citizens into the poor house and worse have skyrocketed from $96 million in 2009 to $252 million in 2012. In one case, the agency has threatened fines of up to $75,000 per day on Wyoming homeowner, Andy Johnson, for constructing a pond on his own rural property.

But that’s not bigger than LeBron.

What about al-Baghdadi and his ISIS brigade setting up their new “Islamic State” – ushering in a “new era of Jihad” (his words). Wyoming Senator John Barrasso said to CBS “Face the Nation”: “I clearly see ISIS as a direct threat to the United States. They have stated it in terms of their opposition to the whole Western world. They are the richest, most powerful, and most savage group of terrorists in the history of mankind.” ISIS has already taken over two sealed bunkers full of chemical weapons, and reports are that they have recently stolen “nuclear” material from an Iraqi university lab.

Just imagine how much worse it would be if Saddam Hussein actually did have WMD – you know – chemical and nuclear weapons? Am I right?!

But all that pales when compared to LeBron’s new two-year, $42 million contract.

But, you say, the Middle East is on fire. Israel is mobilizing to invade and retake both the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. Author David Rubin told the site OneNewsNow that, “They need to control the Philadelphia corridor which is along the border of Gaza and Egypt, to destroy the arms smuggling tunnels, and confiscate all weapons. All of those areas need to come back into total Israeli sovereignty.”

But we may not hear the whole Middle East saga – that is unless LeBron decides to make a statement regarding it.

Well certainly the mess at our southern border is bigger than King James, where reports that Mexico has and is colluding with Central American countries to usher illegals from Mexico and into the United States. There have also been reports of smuggling rings renting children to anyone who wants to join the flood of “families” into United States. The border patrol also said the Savage MS-13 gang is actively recruiting new members right out of the Nogales processing center in Arizona, using the same phone banks set up by the Red Cross to help unaccompanied minors locate family members in the U.S. Comforting isn’t it? We must count out right criminals as big beneficiaries of this invasion policy.

But I’m not sure LeBron has been asked specifically to comment – so you may not have heard the news.

Look – this is a big sports story and he’s undoubtedly the best since Michael Jordan. I’m sure he’s a great guy and all – but it’s just basketball folks.

The world is literally coming apart around us and yet the biggest story is LeBron James.

Let’s just have a little perspective.
