Was Eisenhower an Immoral Angry White Man?

There are things about Donald Trump’s immigration platform I like, and are doable, and things that are kind of absurd and unconstitutional – not to mention progressive.

Building the Trump Wall across the southern border with a few large doors is a good idea. I think most reasonable conservatives would agree. However, making Mexico pay for it is both ridiculous and unrealistic. I suppose he could try, but mostly I think it’s just populist bombast that sells good to the public. I guess is supposed to show how tough he is.

But tariffs, remittance payments and trade restrictions will not nor should they pay for the wall. We can blame Mexico and Central American countries, but we did this to ourselves, so we should pay for it.

What many Republicans are really supporting – what supporters are jazzed about is not just the wall but his idea to deport all illegal invaders. That, and end all sanctuary cities. And on this point, the left, the moderates, and the Chamber of Commerce wing of the Republican Party are spastic.

Ross Kaminsky at the American Spectator echoes the establishment voice quite nicely as he writes: “Mr. Trump wants to remove all illegal aliens from the United States. This is, of course, impossible and, even if it were possible, an outrageous waste of tens or hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars. When asked by Chuck Todd on NBC’s Meet the Press if he should split up families in which one or more of the parents is an illegal alien but their children are US citizens, Trump said no, clarifying in one of the most reprehensible statements I have heard from an American candidate for public office. ‘We’re going to keep the families together, but they have to go.’”

While I agree that you can’t just deny the existence of the 14th amendment and deport citizens, I would have preferred that The Donald follow-up his infamous “they have to go” statement with the citizen has a choice. As a citizen, he or she (assuming they are not transgendering) may stay in this country or feel free to leave with your illegal family. It’s your choice. Sure, it’s not their fault that their parents, or whomever is here illegally, but it’s not ours either. Yet both the left and establishment right say, as did Kaminsky, that even the suggestion is immoral.

Now, as for the impossibility and cost involved in deporting all illegals – that is just nonsense. This is the typical tired argument we always hear. The cost of deporting all illegals is estimated to be around $50 billion. Yes, that’s a lot of money, if you had to keep shelling it out every few years. But that’s what the wall is for. They leave and you close the door behind them.

And it is not impossible. It’s been done before – and with relative ease. Of course, it was last done in a time when being an American actually meant something.

I’ve written about this umpteen times, but I guess it must once again be revisited.

The year was 1953 and 3 million illegal aliens were residing in the United States. That doesn’t seem like much by today’s standards but our population was just a fraction of what it is now.

It was the same year one of America’s greatest generals became president: Dwight D Eisenhower.

Ike called it as he saw it quoting a New York Times article: “The rise in illegal border crossing by Mexican ‘wetbacks’ to a current rate of more than 1 million cases a year has been accompanied by a curious relaxation in ethical standards extending all the way from the farmer-exploiters of this contraband labor to the highest levels of the federal government.”

A couple of things should have jumped off the page. First, the fact that the New York Times would ever publish such a thing and second; just imagine anyone, much less the president, quoting that passage. Today, he would be perp walked out of the Oval Office for a hate crime.

Needless to say, Eisenhower had a real problem with illegal aliens. In 1954 he appointed retired general Joseph Swing to head up the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS), and gave him full authority to do what he had to do to stop the flow of illegals and deport the ones already here.

“Jumpin Joe,” as he was called from his days in the 11th airborne, got to work and did so with a mere 1075 agents. He tasked 750 of those agents to travel to Southern California and Arizona to round up 1000 illegals per day.

“Operation Wetback” as they called it, began on June 17, 1954. By the end of July, they had caught 50,000 in just those two states. And what happened then, is what we have been saying for years. Another half-million fled the country on their own rather than be arrested.

This is called self deportation and when illegals know an administration is serious, that’s what happens, and what would happen again.

The agents then moved on to Texas where they apprehended another 80,000 “wetbacks” and another 700,000 self deported. The illegals very quickly understood that Eisenhower wasn’t going to mess around. Consequently, illegal immigration decreased by 95% in the 50s.

After Ike left office, it was back to a relaxed attitude under Kennedy and every other president since, including Reagan. Eisenhower proved it could be done, if one has the will of a Supreme Military Commander. Simply give the order that it be done and charge the right people to do it! Frankly, he was the last president to actually do his job according to the law. That’s rather sad.

Ike was able to rid us of the flood of almost 3,000,000 illegals with little more than 1000 agents, so never accept from anyone that it “Can’t Be Done!”

Does that make Eisenhower an Immoral Angry White Man?

  1. Parents under the jurisdiction of a foreign country do not have U.S. citizen children. Their children are citizens of the parents’ country. If one of the parents is a U.S. citizen, then the child may be a U.S. citizen, but the illegal alien other parent must leave. The U.S. citizen parent and U.S. citizen child can stay, or leave with the illegal alien parent — their choice!

Family unification? What about when one of our citizen parents is serving time in one of our prisons? Should they get out of prison, or do we unite the families inside the prison? That is already a settled issue. No unification. If you love your children and spouse, stay out of trouble!

  2. Illegal immigrants should be deported. However, most of the politicians crying, “Build the Wall, Build the Wall” are not serious in my opinion. Why? Because they fail to mention the most effective step we could easily take. If we were to incarcerate a hundred or so CEOs of the most egregious corporations who have violated our immigration laws by hiring illegal aliens, jobs for illegals would dry up and so would the flow of invaders from the South.

“Build the Wall” is just a red herring to let the politicians off the hook so that they can avoid sending their corporate donors to jail. It’s so obvious.

Surely if the Border Patrol says a wall/fence should be built in a certain area to help them do their jobs better, then sure, we should do it. Otherwise, perhaps the only truth liberals have told about the illegal immigration problem is, “Build a fifteen foot wall, and somebody will come up with a sixteen foot ladder.”

As for the expense involved in deporting illegal immigrants, no matter where you are in the contiguous United States, a one-way ticket to the border is no more than $200. I’ll sponsor five of them today.

    • This 15 foot fence/16 foot ladder comment is ridiculous. I have heard this many times before and it grows out of pure ignorance about border fences and what they consist of. The reason I know about this is that I lived in what was then Communist Czechoslovakia. I have seen the fences and you will not cross them with a 16 foot ladder.

First off, the fence was not on the border. It stood back nearly 1/4 mile from the actual border. At the border were signs stating that you were entering Czechoslovakia and if you went past the signs without authorization you were committing a crime and would be imprisoned. They meant it. Just before the fence was a road that was constantly patrolled by the Czech military. There was not one fence, there were two. The first was electrified. Touching the fence was lethal. It was about 15 feet high and topped with several rolls of razor wire. About 20 feet behind that fence was another fence also topped with rolls of razor wire. Between the fences was a mine field. After that fence was another road also patrolled by the Czech military. There were guard towers all along the fence so that the entire fence was under constant scrutiny. You want to bring a 16 foot ladder and try the fence? A lot of people were killed trying and even more wound up in prison. Czech prisons were not pleasant places to be.

  3. The purpose of the 14th amendment as you know was to make children of freed slaves US citizens. It was not to make any ineligible candidate for president eligible as pee Article I, Title II, Clause V; “shall be a natural born citizen.” Citizen is the only term discussed in the 14th. amendment. What the 14th. does do under Section V. is “The Congress SHALL have the POWER to ENFORCE, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article.” Translation–they simply can by proper legislation correct Justice Brennan’s legislating from the bench by making his blunder to grant citizenship to any child born to an illegal entry mother a US citizen. No intelligent thinker can condone such travesty realizing that nothing on planet earth is more defenseless than a day old baby. Results, instant citizenship to the new born grants its illegal mother residence in our country. Its insanity. To truly fix a problem one must identify the problem. Therefore, my identity of We the Peoples problem is quit simple. Our entire federal government with but few exceptions has scummed to the siren song of $ corruption DC style. Partial solution. Supreme court justices automatic retirement at age 72. US Senators may serve up two six year terms, US House may serve up six two year terms. Any candidate for public office taking a single $ from outside the geographical bound office running for shall be banned for life from seeking public office. No more buying US senate offices. All political contributions made public within 24 hours with name, address and amount given. lee1233

  4. Don’t even comment on the cost. Start adding up the costs for the baby;s birth, medical visits for the entire family, ER visits, food stamps, housing, schooling, teachers salaries and pensions, building expansion, busses, free meals, school immunizations and physicals, special teachers to learn English, under the table jobs, lost government income, dental, vision, prescriptions, etc , than tell me we can’t afford it. Don’t forget their transportation to detention centers, heating and/or air conditioning, medical and food, etc. Add it up for several years for each family member and for each child to get to school age and go thru school.
We are NOT responsible to pay for any of these costs. They are criminals the minute they step on American soil without going thru the proper channels. We own minors NOTHING, we did NOT birth them here nor bring them here illegally. They area HUGE financial burden on our country. They commit crimes and than we again take care of all their costs. It is totally out of control and MUST BE STOPPED.
I agree that ALL ILLEGALS MUST be forced to leave America. No schooling and hand outs. If I went to their homeland would their government give me what we give them?
Yes, Build a Wall, and round up and deport ALL of them. In other countries they would be killed, so don’t even talk about inhumane, no comparison. IF other countries begin to be critics than we will be more that glad to ship them to the countries that are complaining, there are more than enough to go around!
We do NOT need Mexico’s good or products. We survived without them in the past and can do it again.
We can STOP the drugs crossing the border. ICE agents, trained dogs, barbed wire, border patrol agents and firearms. Tunnels built under the water, EASY, bomb the water.
STOP trying to make excuses for criminals and past non enforcement of laws. The time is NOW! Also we have many. many elected officials protecting .these criminals and that makes them accomplices, which is also a crime. TIME TO LAY DOWN THE LAW FOR ONE AND ALL!

  5. Romney was NOT off base at all in talking about “self deportation”. It is the people hiring the illegals that are the problem. They have to be hit with big fines and held responsible for the “authentication” of legal immigrants documents. If there are jobs that physically/mentally capable people on welfare can do, then they must be forced to take them or ALL benefits will be dropped. A percentage of their benefits can be continued temporarily depending on their sincerity to hold employment. If we do NOT take these steps now, we will see “blood in the streets” at some point in the future, because the hard working middle class will “not take it anymore!” That time has come and the PC politicians had better realize it. Trump is the “wake up call” and maybe he was selected by God to be that. The trumpet just might have been blown. Freedom for true Americans!
