I’d like to provide a little analysis and perspective on a recent Blaze article I read a couple of days ago.
The article, which is chilling at best is entitled, “NY Democrat introduces bill allowing gov to ‘order the removal,’ detention of people with contagious diseases.”
New York’s Libertarian Party is speaking out against new legislation that would vastly expand the power of the state’s governor, permitting the detainment of individuals deemed to “pose an imminent and significant threat to the public health” by being a “suspected case, contact or carrier of a contagious disease.”
Well that sounds reasonable and just what springs to mind when one thinks of a free society – guilty until proven innocent.
And did you happen to catch that last quoted sentence, where one only has to be “suspected?” Not of having the COVID virus, but merely “suspected” of just contact.
But also notice that this proposed legislation isn’t just for COVID, but for any contagious disease, like the flu or the common cold maybe.
You don’t suppose the terms “suspected” and “contact” are purposely ambiguous, are they – mistakenly written so as to give the Governor carte blanche to round up anyone he pleases, do you?
And, “a threat to public health” you say. Haven’t we recently heard something just like this?
Why yes we have. Uncle Joe Biden’s people stated that he wishes to classify “gun violence” as a National Health Emergency.
That’s right – gun violence. And you can’t have gun violence without guns and you can’t have guns without gun owners.
And I don’t know about you, but as far as I’m concerned, there is no more “imminent and significant threat to the public health,” than a gun – and worse, a gun owner. Am I right or am I right?
But just in case it still is not clear, let’s read on and see what else the Blaze has to add.
The legislation, recently introduced by New York Assemblyman Noah Nicholas Perry, a Democrat, calls for amending New York public health law to permit the “removal and detention of cases, contacts and carriers who are or may be a danger to public health” upon the governor declaring a public health emergency.
Now it seems pretty clear. Anyone who is even suspected by the State of currently being, or may be at some future date, “a danger to public health,” can be rounded up and detained. And again, this is written in such a way as to grant the State the authority to act on whatever it deems as a “danger to public health.”
Just as the political class has bastardized the phrase, “provide … for the general welfare,” in Article I, Section 8, Clause 1 of the Constitution, so too is it their intent to now cast a wide net over the amorphous term, public health.
Trust me when I say – if this passes in New York, it will be just the beginning – the framework or foundation for leftist authoritarians to build on.
And trust me when I say that a Biden administration will use similar language regarding guns and gun owners.
For the leftist oligarchy, the COVID pandemic really is the gift that keeps on giving.
