We all have biases, left and right. I admit to knee-jerk reactions occasionally, without first checking the facts. All of us are susceptible to this from time to time.
The difference between the reactions of the informed right and the all too often uninformed left is more often than not that our suspicions turn out to be correct. Yet we are accused of being conspiracy theorists.
When some on the right had the immediate reaction that the marathon bombers were probably radical Muslim terrorists, although knee-jerk and completely devoid of evidence, it is at least based on historical fact.
We have history on our side. Timothy McVeigh aside, all Muslims are not terrorists, but to date all terrorist bombings have been by Muslims. It is neither good nor bad, it’s just fact.
Some on the left however, are simply unable to deal with facts. The facts being too painful for them to deal with, or it may be that it does not promote their agenda. It also may be that many are simply so paralyzed with their own political correctness that it seems impossible to utter a single word for fear of being judged.
Recent claims are that Muslims fear being scapegoated for the Boston Marathon bombings. Why would this be? The mainstream media continually bends over backwards not to mention anything Muslim unless it appears positive. Reporters like John King of CNN almost visibly flipped inside out just by mentioning that a DARK skinned man had been questioned. He didn’t say Middle Eastern, Moslem, Saudi or anything like it, just dark-skinned. And yet even that seemed too much for his fragile psyche.
The political correctness in the major media is so rampant that just to say a person of color has been apprehended would cause mainstream reporters to break out in hives.
So why the political correctness? Why do they seem so hamstrung?
Well, it turns out that the Muslim brotherhood and Hamas linked front organization CAIR, the Council on American-Islamic Relations, is one of the organizations that consistently pressures both politicians and newsrooms alike. They are constantly calling newsrooms to complain of the negative treatment of Muslims in the press.
One shining example of that pressure was that of the recent Associated Press cave. On April 4. It was reported by USNews.com that: “the term ‘Islamist’, the AP clarified in a Thursday afternoon alert to online stylebook subscribers, should not be used as ‘a synonym for Islamic fighters, militants, extremists or radicals.’”
This is the same AP that recently made the decision to discontinue the use of the term “illegal immigrant” due to its politically charged and negative connotation.
Remember that those who control the language control the debate.
It’s obviously not just the language that is the problem. When those in the leftist media pray or openly state like Salon.com’s David Sirota, a desire that the marathon bomber be a “White American”, we not only have a double standard, but a very serious problem in this country.
If we on the right allow this nonsense to continue, we might as well sign the death warrant for our country. Those who wish to do us harm will be able to come to this country, essentially do what they please and go home. All the while we will be so tied up in politically correct knots, we will be powerless to prevent the attacks for fear of profiling and unable to bring them to justice in order to appease or curry favor from another nation.
So hearing, reading, learning and knowing what we on the informed right know, is it any wonder why we, at times, jump to conclusions. It’s not a conspiracy if it turns out to be fact.
