President Trump has, within the last few hours, fired FBI Director James Comey. White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said that Comey was “terminated and removed” from office today.
The firing was recommended by Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein. Sessions wrote in a letter to the President today, that “I have concluded that a fresh start is needed at the leadership of the FBI… I must recommend that you remove Director James B. Comey, Jr. and identify an experienced and qualified individual to lead the great men and women of the FBI.”
Spicer then tweeted, “FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE : Today President Donald J. Trump informed FBI Director James Comey that he has been terminated and removed from office. President Trump acted on the clear recommendations of both Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and Attorney General Jeff Sessions.”
“The FBI is one of our nation’s most cherished and respected and today will mark a new beginning for our crown jewel of law enforcement,” said President Trump.
