Yesterday, on his radio program, Rush Limbaugh was talking about how many modern progressive leftists have given up trying to “fix” our country. Now, they claim, it must be torn down and rebuilt in the image that the left envisions – a socialist utopia, where one size really does fit all, because everyone is the same … or else.
Evidently, according to an ever-increasing number of leftists, there’s just no saving and no redeeming the United States.
Why exactly does this new breed of leftists feel this way about their own country?
Well, it goes back to the days of slavery. Then after emancipation – Jim Crow, segregation, racism and the Klan.
This they claim is America’s permanent legacy, and one that apparently cannot be erased or otherwise expunged. The only answer is to tear it down and start over.
But this poses a couple of problems for the left – namely, reparations and the democrat party.
First, if this is indeed the case as the left asserts, that the stain of slavery and racism is everlasting, why then would we waste our time with a bandaid fix like reparations that will merely temporarily cover-up the underlying problem of systemic and historic racism. Answer is we shouldn’t. The only correct course of action is to level the entire archaic white patriarchal, hegemonic, American structure.
I mean, you wouldn’t pay to replace your old kitchen cabinets in a house you’re going to soon demolish.
The left, by arguing what Barack knew, that, “…we’re going to have to change our traditions, our history; we’re going to have to move into a different place…,” kind of blows a hole in the reparations movement. (by the way: h/t: Michelle Obama)
So the radical left has spoken – reparations are useless.
If slavery and subsequent racism is said to be a permanent stain on the nation, than those who supported it, fought for it and the party that stood for it, should also carry that same permanent stain.
Now we know that the Republican Party was founded by Abe Lincoln and his allies as an anti-slavery party – the party of emancipation. So by extension, the democrats, whom they opposed, were therefore the party of slavery – decidedly against emancipation.
Well, by the grace of God and the Union Army, the dems in the South didn’t get their wish and lost the Civil War. So they shifted gears and became the Party of Jim Crow, segregation and violent racism.
The years passed to see racist democrats try to turn back the clock, resegregating the federal government and the military – the KKK, separate housing, bathrooms, cafes and drinking fountains. This was all democrats, or “Dixiecrats” as they were called.
A history like that, seems to me, should leave as permanent a stain as the left’s definition of American history.
So I don’t much care how many supposed enlightened and woke souls currently constitute this latest iteration of the democrat party. If America should ever be known by slavery and racism, so then should the democrat party.
As much as left would like, you can’t have it both ways. We just need more on the right reminding them of it instead of cowering in a corner when the word racism is uttered.
