Hillary Clinton has evidently decided that gun control and gun violence is a winning issue. At a campaign stop at Grinnell College in Iowa, Hillary told a story of how she recently met with some mothers in Chicago who had all lost at least one child due to gun violence.
Well, I must say – this is a first. No democrat ever speaks of gun violence and the city of Chicago in the same breath. It’s off limits. Blacks killing blacks is supposed to be taboo. But this was not a forum – just a speech. So no one could ask questions – not that any in her audience would be educated enough to put together the fact that Chicago is a perpetually democrat-controlled town and the violence can be directly attributed to leftist policies. So I guess she’s safe in that regard.
Hillary then said that, “We are going to make this a voting issue…because a majority of voters agree with us.”
Well, not so fast. Some on your own side don’t agree. Gavin Newsom, the radical former mayor of San Francisco, who is now running for governor of California said, “he did not expect Clinton to focus so much time and energy on gun control, and he worries because such an approach has “not been very successful for presidential candidates.” He stressed that he “couldn’t agree with Clinton more” on the controls she is pushing; “he just believes she is making a big error by pledging to go outside the process to achieve them.”
By that he means that Hillary is willing to enact gun control by executive fiat. Newsom doesn’t think that will fly.
But there is another reason gun control is a loser of an issue for democrats. You’ll see this if you scroll all the way down toward the bottom of the latest, rather comprehensive Quinnipiac poll.
There you will find number 82 of 110 questions which is:
“(If Democrat or Democratic Leaner) Which of these is the most important issue to you in deciding who to support for the Democratic nomination for President: the economy and jobs, terrorism, immigration, the federal deficit, health care, foreign policy, climate change, race relations, abortion, taxes or gun policy?”
DEMOCRATS/DEMOCRATIC LEANERS.......... POLITICAL PHILOSOPHY LIBERAL..... Mod/ Tot Very Smwht Cons Men Wom Economy and jobs 45% 27% 59% 47% 41% 48% Terrorism 4 2 4 4 2 5 Immigration 3 3 - 3 2 4 Federal deficit 5 - 5 7 7 4 Health care 9 17 6 6 9 8 Foreign policy 9 7 7 12 11 8 Climate change 7 13 6 5 9 6 Race relations 4 13 2 2 5 4 Abortion 2 5 - 1 2 2 Taxes 4 6 2 5 5 4 Gun policy 4 3 6 4 4 4 DK/NA 3 3 3 3 2 4
As anyone can see, “Economy and jobs” is overwhelmingly important, even to the very liberal, with the average being 45%. Now look all the way at the very bottom and we find “Gun policy” at 4%. It’s one of the issues of LEAST importance – even to democrats! You wouldn’t know this by listening to the main stream media.
But Hillary’s people must know this. Democrats live and die by poll numbers! Just look at all the loser issues. Healthcare, immigration, abortion, climate change and guns – every issue democrat politicians consistently cry about are in fact virtually non-existent on the scale of importance.
But therein lies the inherent problem for the Hillster. She has to talk up these fringe issues. What else does she have? She certainly can’t speak to what is the number one concern of both republicans and democrats – the economy and jobs.
These poll numbers indicate that people are in fact suffering. If the economy was as the Obama sycophants describe – robust and growing – it would not be number one with a bullet (pardon the pun). As a matter of fact, the Obama economy is currently so great that Fed Chief Janet Yellen just announced that if the economy doesn’t pick up, interest rates could actually go negative! So you could make money by borrowing. What a great deal!
And Hillary was a big part of the Obama machine for years. Therefore, she is, by extension, also to blame. Not to mention it would be political suicide to break away and start speaking ill of Obama’s great economic recovery.
I believe her people have indeed seen these polls and have to be panicked over it. It seems to me that Hillary is stuck in a box and has no where else to go. She must attempt to ignite interest in one or more of these loser issues. She knows she must find something, anything else to talk about.
If she, or whoever the democrat nominee will be, is unable to do so, the democrats are toast.
Feels like 1980 all over again!
