Which Recovery Summer Is This Anyway?

So, I think we’re heading into our 4th or 5th recover summer. I’m not sure which. There’s so much recovering going on, it’s hard to keep up.

What?! Don’t tell me you don’t remember the summer of 2010, when Vice President Joe Biden declared, and kicked off his “Summer of Recovery” tour?

Politico proudly wrote in June of 2010: “BREAKING — OBAMA, BIDEN DECLARE “RECOVERY SUMMER”: Vice President Biden today will kick off “Recovery Summer,” a six-week-long push designed to highlight the jobs accompanying a surge in stimulus-funded projects to improve highways, parks, drinking water and other public works.”

Just how well has the recovery gone, you may ask? Well, with every recovery, there must be jobs…and lots of them. Let’s see how that portion of the “Recovery” has gone.

(All of the following italicized quotes are attributed to CNS News)

CNS News reports: “When Obama took office in January 2009, the labor force participation rate was 65.7 percent. By the beginning of 2013, the start of Obama’s second term, it had dropped to 63.6 percent. Since January 2014, when the participation rate was 63.0, it has continued to decline, hitting a 36-year low of 62.8 percent in May.”

A 36 year low! That would make 1978 the last time. Gee, who was president then? Oh, that’s right – Yimmie Carter, the peanut farmer and socialist, turned president.

Many of us said early on that the Obama presidency would be Carter’s second term.

Well, I apologize, from all of us…to Jimmy Carter. Obama already is far worse and he’s not nearly done.

“The labor force, according to BLS, [Bureau of Labor Statistics], is that part of the civilian noninstitutional population that either has a job or has actively sought one in the last four weeks.” (It’s recalculated monthly)

In other words; the Labor Force Participation Rate is the percentage of working age people (16 yrs. and up) who either have a job or are actually looking for employment.

If you’ve been so discouraged that you just gave up looking, you’re no longer counted. It’s as if you don’t exist. That’s why the unemployment rate can continue to magically drop. It uses those same BLS statistics. It is indeed, just like magic!

“In May, according to BLS, the nation’s civilian noninstitutional population, consisting of all people 16 or older who were not in the military or an institution, hit 247,622,000. Of those, 155,613,000 participated in the labor force by either holding a job or actively seeking one.”

Read that right? And that 155 million plus figure doesn’t mean their all employed. It means a lot of them are actively looking for work. In other words, they just haven’t given up yet.

“The number of Americans not in the labor force has climbed by 11,480,000 since Obama took office, rising from 80,529,000 in January 2009 to 92,009,000 in May 2014.”

Obama has added more people to the unemployment roles than the combined populations of New York City, Houston and Boston. That’s every man, woman, child and LGBT member.

There was some good news for the month of May.

“In April, the number of those not in the labor force hit a record high of 92,018,000. In May, that number declined by 9,000 to 92,009,000.”

That’s about a 1/10,000 of a percent increase. Goods time people…good times.

“At no time during the presidencies of Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton or George W. Bush, did such a small percentage of the civilian non-institutional population either hold a job or at least actively seek one.”

Funny how democrats no longer bring the unemployment number like they used to.

Maybe we should start.
