Israel No Longer Exists

Everyone knows the name HarperCollins. It’s one of the world’s largest publishing houses and is the parent company of many subsidiaries around the globe.

One of the subsidiaries is British-based Collins Bartholomew, who produces textbooks and maps. One such publication was entitled “Collins Middle East Atlas – Learn with Maps,” which was produced recently for English-speaking schools in Arab countries.

I can already picture the gears turning in your heads, saying to yourselves – “Okay – what did they do?”

Where's Israel?

Where’s Israel?

Well, it seems Collins Bartholomew wanted to be sensitive to the Arab world, so they completely omitted Israel from their Atlas. OneNewsNow reported that “they omitted Israel because other regional customers objected to its inclusion in the maps, labeling it ‘unacceptable’ – objections that Collins Bartholomew described as ‘local preferences’. Jan Markell, founder and director of Olive Tree Ministries, spoke about the incident. ‘I think it’s rather stunning,’ she said, ‘and it was a conscious decision – a decision quite frankly that much of the world is making in this new climate of anti-Semitism: and that is ‘Erase Israel’.”

The map shows Jordan and Syria extending all the way to the Mediterranean Sea. Both Gaza and the West Bank are labeled, but Israel is nowhere to be found.

Thankfully, the publishing giant felt enough heat to promise to destroy the incorrect maps. A spokesman stated that “HarperCollins regrets the omission of the name Israel from the Collins Middle East Atlas. This product has now been removed from sale in all territories and all remaining stock will be pulped. HarperCollins sincerely apologizes for this omission and for any offense caused.”

Well, that’s mighty decent of them to kind of apologize for their egregious anti-Semitism. I wonder if they would act so nonchalantly if they erased Iran or Syria off the map.

All right – so this was bad, but it’s not like this is a common occurrence – like it’s ever happened before or will again. Well, you’d be wrong if you thought that.

The American Thinker, in 2BMI013, reported of a similar occurrence back in 2009. It seems that the British Airline BMI “removed Israel from the electronic maps displayed to passengers in some of its planes. This was done to avoid offending Muslim passengers. Israel does not appear in maps on BMI flights between London and Tel Aviv, and Khefa, the pre-independence Arabic name for Haifa, appears on the maps. A spokesman explained that BMI makes ‘every effort to take passengers’ sensitivities into account through an apolitical policy.”

Want another? In 2012 reported that “Garner Education, an independent English-Language Teaching (ELT) instructor in Britain, issued a textbook that contains a map with ‘Occupied Palestine’ in place of Israel.”occupied palestine

And this was not a geography textbook. The textbook was entitled “Skills in English Writing Level 1,” and it was sponsored by the British Foreign Office.

What was level 2 – how to duplicate the Holocaust?

Garnet did apologize saying it had made a genuine mistake.

A genuine mistake? How does one, or several, make that type of mistake? Obviously, it was no mistake. Calling Myanmar, Burma is an understandable error, but “Occupied Palestine” is completely fictional. It never was Palestine, occupied or otherwise. They simply made it up and placed it in a textbook as propaganda.

This hatred for Israel is both absurd and irrational. If this were done to any other nation, there would be trials at the world court, but of course it’s just “those Jews” – so who cares – right?

  1. There is absolutely nothing “apolitical” about appeasement.

Every day more and more people are being made to care, forced to take sides. It’s always been that way. And roughly 80% of any population are followers (I read in an old study). They will follow anyone who gets out in front like some herds follow anything with a bell. So they will side with whomever scares them the most hoping to be left alone.

“Just because you don’t take an interest in politics doesn’t mean politics doesn’t take an interest in you.” Pericles, 430 BC

The more things change, the more they stay the same.
