Amnesty International Is All about Human Rights

The hypocrisy of the left knows no bounds, either domestically or internationally. This past Tuesday the 400 member Council of Amnesty International (AI) met in Dublin Ireland. At this auguste conference of human rights advocates, they held a vote.

The vote was not to condemn American held prisoners at Gitmo, assuming there are any left. No, the vote was to pass a resolution “to adopt a policy supporting the ‘decriminalization of sex work’ around the world.” The secretary of AI said this was “not a decision that was reached easily or quickly,” but called it “a historic day for Amnesty International.”

The Coalition Against Trafficking in Women (CATW) claims this new policy “would in effect advocate the legalization of pimping, brothel owning and sex buying – the pillars of a $99 billion global sex industry.”

But I guess CATW’s concerns are much to do about nothing, for a leaked AI document states that, “Sexual desire and activity are a fundamental human need. To criminalize those who are unable or unwilling to fulfill that need through more traditionally recognized means and thus purchase sex, may amount to a violation of the right to privacy and undermined the rights to free expression and health.”

In other words, the “human rights” of those wanting prostitutes and sex slaves evidently trumps the “human rights” of the slaves themselves. But then again, everyone knows that slaves do not have rights anyway.

Has AI been taken over by ISIS?

AI also stated that, “outlawing sex between consenting adults, whether paid for or not, threatens the rights to health, nondiscrimination, the quality, privacy, and security of person.” Everyone also knows that sex “slaves” are always “consenting” and “adults.” And what about the health, quality and security of those persons being sold into slavery?

Now let’s go back just two weeks ago. It was the “World Day Against Trafficking And the Fight Against Modern Day Slavery.”  Among the organizations involved in “World Day” was the CATW, Human Rights Watch, Project HOPE and … you guessed it … Amnesty International.

The World Day briefing asserts that human trafficking is the second largest criminal enterprise in the world. That it generates an estimated $32 billion of profit per year. It also claims that the average age of trafficked women is between 12 and 14 years old.

Maybe it’s me, but that doesn’t sound much like “consenting adults.” Our own State Department estimates that between “600,000 to 800,000 people are trafficked across international borders every year, of which 80% are female and half our children.”

Yet a mere two weeks later, AI insists that, “The states interference with an adult’s strategy to have sex with another consenting adult is, therefore, a deliberate interference with those individuals’ autonomy and health.”

Well, it’s nice to know that Amnesty International is looking out for the autonomy and health of some – just not 12 to 14-year-old girls.
