Taxpayers Lose Again with the Stop-Gap Spending Bill

Shut It Down: Republicans Chicken Out Yet Again

from The American Spectator:

There was a reason that FDR opposed the unionization of public sector workers. Rather than the natural negotiation tension between a company owner and an employee in which the owner is trying to conserve his capital while the employee across the table tries to get as much as he can, when a politician or bureaucrat is negotiating with a public sector union, they’re both on the same side of the table, spending taxpayers’ money, usually without a taxpayer representative anywhere nearby. It’s a recipe for fiscal disaster and perhaps national economic suicide.

The same is true, as proved this weekend, when Republicans and Democrats, having colluded to put off legislation needed to “keep the government open” until the waning days of existing federal spending authority, crafted a “deal” in which taxpayers are utterly betrayed. Government by emergency is never good for the taxpayer, and this emergency was, as so many are, a product of bipartisan conspiracy. read more

Of Promises Broken – President Trump Signs Stop-Gap Spending Bill

All you need to know about this stop-gap, $1.070 trillion non-budget budget that was passed over the weekend and signed by president Trump, is that Chuck Schumer likes it.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., praised the budget deal as a “good agreement for the American people,” that “takes the threat of a government shutdown off the table.”

“The bill ensures taxpayer dollars aren’t used to fund an ineffective border wall, excludes poison pill riders, and increases investments in programs that the middle-class relies on, like medical research, education, and infrastructure,” Schumer said in a statement. “Early on in this debate, Democrats clearly laid out our principles. At the end of the day, this is an agreement that reflects those principles.”

Chuckie Schumer is scumbag and a weasel, but he isn’t wrong. Democrats did clearly lay out their principles, and the agreement did in fact reflect their principles. It also laid bare the Republicans crystal clear lack of principle, or at least what we thought were Republican principles. Turns out they have none. At least none worth fighting for.

Some say Schumer and the democrats are shrewd to have played Trump and the Republicans. I would disagree. The Democrat Party is the party of Sheila Jackson-Lee, Maxine Waters, Hank Johnson, Al Franken and many others. None of these could be mistaken for shrewd. But they don’t have to be. They only have to be bullies. Minority or majority – it matters not to them as they continue to dictate the terms of Republican surrender. read more

Podcast – This is What We Do About the Out of Control Courts

We’ve all heard too many times, that the federal courts are out of control. They’ve stolen power from the Congress and the president and are effectively holding the country hostage to their whims.

What we haven’t heard is what to do about. What can we the people, or the Congress, or President Trump do to take from the courts that which is not theirs in the first place. And that’s the problem. We hear constantly that Congress has the Constitutional authority to pass this or that law, or that President Trump is well within his Constitutional power to write such and an order. But then the courts stop it. Then what? Then nothing – apparently.

Well this has to end and I have a couple of suggestions to facilitate that end. read more

Free speech has been on the lips of many these days. In conservative circles, it has usurped most other news. To some extent it should, for without it, where would we be?

Of the many free speech issues, none has received more press than has the UC Berkeley vs. Anne Coulter flap. This issue goes to heart of free speech and the Constitution.

The right claims that Ms. Coulter has the right to speak and that her “speech” should be protected, just as any leftist speaker would be. Of course at Berkeley, a leftist speaker would more likely be canonized than protested and shut down.

While the issue of Anne Coulter’s right to speak at Berkeley and her guaranteed safety is an important one, a recent Trump appointment that may affect all our free speech should be getting a lot more press than the college speaking circuit. read more

The Wall is Worth Fighting For

by: the Common Constitutionalist

You’ll have to pardon my cynicism regarding the border wall, but we’ve seen this show before. Republicans talk tough, but at the first sign of push-back, they collapse like a house of cards.

But the President is supposed to be different – he’s supposed to be a fighter. He’s supposed to be fighting for us. The wall isn’t just what he wants – it’s what we want. So where’s the fight?

On Tuesday, Talking Points Memo reported on Press Secretary Sean Spicer’s White House briefing. “Yesterday, President Trump reportedly said that he’s going to delay pushing the wall through. Can you just clarify what the status is?” Associated Press reporter Vivian Salama asked Spicer at his daily briefing.

“I think he tweeted about this earlier,” Spicer replied. “His priorities have not changed. There will be a wall built. “Our priorities are clear going into FY17, the remainder of budgeting for that, and we’ll continue to ask for more in FY18,” he said, referring to fiscal years 2017 and 2018.

“So it’s delayed for now,” Salama pressed. “No, I didn’t — no, no, no, no. I never — no one said delayed. No, no,” Spicer said.

Interesting Points About Sanctuary City Judge

from Heavy.com:

A United States district court judge has just blocked part of President Donald Trump’s executive order on sanctuary cities.

Judge William Orrick on Tuesday granted a nationwide injunction, blocking the Trump administration from following through on its threat to take away federal funds from cities that do not comply with national immigration laws, according to CNN.

William Orrick is 63 years old, and he is from San Francisco, California. According to his Senate confirmation hearing, he is married, and he and his wife Carolina have three daughters: Sarah, Libby, and Catherine.

Here’s everything else you need to know about Judge William H. Orrick III.

1. He Was Nominated by President Barack Obama

Judge William Orrick was appointed to his current position by President Barack Obama.

At the time of the appointment, Orrick was working at the law firm Coblentz, Patch, Duffy & Bass LLP. He has previously served as deputy assistant attorney general for the Civil Division of the United States Department of Justice.

Obama nominated Orrick in June 2012, but Orrick was not approved until February 2013. This was mainly a party line vote, though Republican Jeff Flake broke with his party to vote to confirm Orrick.

2. He Donated Money to Barack Obama During the 2008 Campaign

When Barack Obama was running for president, Judge William Orrick reportedly helped raise money for him and donated some of his own money as well.

According to Public Citizen, a consumer rights advocacy group, Orrick donated approximately $30,000 to committees supporting Barack Obama’s 2008 campaign for president. In addition, he helped raise $200,000 in contributions to the Obama campaign.

This had not been Orrick’s first time raising money for a Democratic politician. During the 2004 election, he helped raise funds for John Kerry, according to Public Citizen.

Trump Continues Gutting the Climate Church of the EPA

by: the Common Constitutionalist

No Audio Version

As was promised, the Trump administration has begun the task of gutting the EPA. Trump is doing whatever he can to remove the jackboot of the agency from the throats of industry and frankly all Americans.

And it’s about time. Other than the IRS, I can think of no government agency or department which wields more power, and uses it almost exclusively to abuse the American private sector.

So when Trump announced that he would drastically cut back the authority of the EPA, many of cautiously cheered. I say cautiously, because experience tells us to be weary of campaign promises. Yet, at least as far as the EPA and the whole myth of man-caused climate change are concerned, he appears to be keeping his word.

In March, the Independent woefully reported that the word ‘Science’ disappeared from the “Environmental Protection Agency office’s mission statement. The EPA once proudly told visitors that a large part of its work was scientific research to help improve the climate and the environment. But those references have since been removed and replaced with a reference to things that are ‘economically and technologically achievable.’”

Well that is good news, for as we know, it has been quite some time, if ever, that the EPA had anything to do with science. Rather the government agency should have long ago been classified as a church, due to its almost singular focus on the religion of global warming. And wouldn’t that be the ultimate irony, considering the left’s irrational fear of the separation of Church and State. read more

Today – Leftists Have Georgia on Their Minds

by: the Common Constitutionalist

All eyes, politically speaking, will be on a certain special Congressional election today.

It’s Georgia’s Sixth Congressional district – the one vacated by Tom Price when he stepped down to become President Trump’s Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary.

This election would not otherwise be of importance or the slightest bit intriguing, but this is not just any election. Oh, it won’t change the make-up of the House, or unseat the Republicans. Nothing that dramatic – at least not to normal people.

This election is being overly hyped because this is a red district in a red State, which may actually end up being won by a Democrat. And this, as is being broadcast by virtually all left wing media sources, is to be proof of the American voter’s absolute repudiation of Trump.

That’s the bottom line – that’s what it’s all about, and only that.

The left is salivating over the potential victory, much like they were just before Hillary Clinton flamed out and crashed in a fiery ball of death.

So what’s the big deal anyway? What chance does a liberal Democrat (as if there is any other type of Democrat anymore) have in winning a reliable Republican district?

Normally none, but the candidate, Jon Ossoff, is said to have a good shot at taking the seat – because – you know – everyone now hates Trump. read more

How Do You Like That Bomb You Mothers

**UPDATE**

Actual Afghanistan MOAB Video Below!

Get it? Because the MOAB is affectionately known as the Mother of All Bombs.

The GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Burst, or MOAB, is as much fun as it sounds – unless you are the enemy.

Weighing in at 22,600 lbs., and 30 feet in length, the MOAB is the largest conventional (non-nuclear) air burst ordinance on the planet. Technically, it’s not the “largest” in our arsenal. That distinction is owned by MOP, the Massive Ordinance Penetrator, which weighs in at 30,000 lbs., and is capable of “penetrating” 200 ft of reinforced concrete.

In other words, it matters little to us where you bags of dirt choose to hide. We don’t need nukes to root you out. And unlike his predecessors, we finally have a President with the stones to utilize the tools provided him. Hopefully it won’t be the last time we hear of such a bomb being used. read more

Conservatives vs the Swamp

by: the Common Constitutionalist

Scroll Down for Audio Version

One of the claims that President Trump hailed during the campaign was that he wanted to “Drain the Swamp” in D.C. We heard many times from him and his surrogates about going to Washington to drain the swamp. Those at his rallies could even be heard chanting, “Drain the Swamp.”

It played great to the masses, but is it really possible? If all things remain equal, is this possible?

Well no – no it is not. First, without getting into detail, some of Trump’s cabinet picks belie his promise – although he never actually stated that, “I promise to Drain the Swamp.”

His choices of Sessions as Attorney General, Scott Pruitt at EPA, Tom Price at HHS, and certainly (we hope) the new supreme Court justice Gorsuch appear at first blush to be swamp drainers. But Reince Preibus, Steve Mnuchin at Treasury and Secretary of State Tillerson seem at best to be status quo swampists.

But it of course can’t all be left to Trump. There is no president who is capable of doing all the heavy lifting when it comes to this monumental and possibly insurmountable task. He must get help from the legislative branch. read more
