Executive Order Ties Free Speech on Campus to Research Funding

from the Washington Free Beacon:

Trump Signs Executive Order Promoting Free Speech on Campus

President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Thursday tying federal research funding for colleges and universities to their policies governing free speech.

“We are delivering a clear message to the professors and power structures trying to suppress … young Americans and all Americans from challenging far-left ideology,” Trump said at the White House while flanked by free-speech advocates. “People who are confident in their beliefs cannot censor others. They welcome free, fair, and open debate, and that is what we are demanding.” read more

Video Podcast – Two sides to the Emergency Powers Act

by: Brent Smith at the Common Constitutionalist

For the first time, I recently and personally suffered a Constitutional Crisis. Then I looked a little deeper.

I actually agree with both parties. How can that be? I sound like a squishy moderate. It’s really quite fascinating and a bit convoluted.

What am I talking about?

Well, the Emergency Powers Act of course.

Mark Levin stands firm with the president. Mike Lee also stands with the President, yet voted against his emergency powers act for money for the border wall.

Thus is my crisis. Which one these trusted Constitutional scholars do I side with? read more

After All the Hype – Pelosi Says Trump’s not Worth Impeaching

from the Federalist:

If Pelosi Believed Her Claims About Trump And Russia, She Would Impeach

There was some sad news for progressives yesterday as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told Washington Post Magazine that she will not pursue impeachment against President Donald Trump. It’s not just Pelosi: House intelligence committee Chairman Adam Schiff also came out against trying to remove the president from office, saying “failed impeachment is a bad idea,” and that it can’t happen “in the absence of very graphic evidence.”

The speaker claimed “he’s just not worth it,” but anyone who has read a newspaper or turned on the television in the past two years knows full well that if Democrats believed there were serious evidence of collusion between Russia and Trump, articles of impeachment would be flying out of printers in her office. read more

Dems Not to Lose Strategy is a sure fire Win for Trump

by: Brent Smith at the Common Constitutionalist

A couple of days ago I ran across an article on the Atlantic website entitled, “How Not to Lose to Donald Trump,” by none other than Rahm Emanuel, current Mayor of Chicago, and former Chief of Staff/Consigliere to then president Barack Obama.

He is famous, or infamous, for the saying, “You never want a serious crisis to go to waste. … This crisis provides the opportunity for us to do things that you could not before.”

And this, of course, goes for real and imagined or fabricated crises.

But coming from someone like Emanuel, I thought this strategy odd, that he would play not to lose instead of playing to win.

From the get-go, my first reaction was football. read more

WND Exclusive – DNC dumps Fox for Debates — will RNC act in Kind?

by Brent Smith for World Net Daily:

Well, isn’t this rich. I’d like to say it’s like the pot calling the kettle black, but I’d probably be accused of racism.

After all the years of conservatives complaining how the RNC just caves to the demands of the various leftist “news” networks, the DNC, for good or ill, steps up.

The Daily Caller writes that the head of the Democrat National Committee, Tom Perez, issued a statement that Fox News is “not in a position to host a fair and neutral [presidential candidates] debate.”

The DNC “announced Wednesday that they are not allowing Fox News to host any Democratic presidential debates this election cycle, citing the network’s alleged ‘inappropriate relationship’ with President Donald Trump.” read more

Is the El Chapo Act a Pipe Dream?

by: Brent Smith at the Common Constitutionalist

Recently Texas Senator Ted Cruz reintroduced the El Chapo Act, which if passed and signed into law would result in the confiscation of, “illegally obtained profits resulting from any criminal drug trafficking enterprise led by Joaquin Archivaldo Guzman Loera.’ for border security measures, which could include a wall. This includes any funds forfeited by Guzman in this case or future cases involving his former associates.”

The bill introduced by Cruz is actually called the “El Chapo” Act. It’s not only the former drug kingpin’s name, but an acronym for “Ensuring Lawful Collection of Hidden Assets to Provide Order Act.

I don’t know … pretty cheesy Ted, but hey, the government does love their acronyms. They probably have a department of acronyms department whose sole job it is to craft these silly things.

Anyway, it is an interesting idea for border wall funding and it would, technically, fulfill Donald Trump’s promise to make Mexico pay for the wall, since Guzman was based in Mexico. Yeah – ok – semantics. read more

WND Exclusive – Trump Signed the Bill — and Broke his Promise

from Brent Smith for World Net Daily:

Left and right – we are all still transfixed on the border wall.

On Friday, Feb. 15, 2019, President Trump signed the FY2019 Consolidated Appropriations Act, H.J. Res 31, to prevent the entire nation from collapsing under the weight of another shutdown.

Right. Did anyone truly feel the last one?

He then proceeded to declare a national emergency to obtain additional funding for the border wall. read more

Video Podcast – The Strange Specter of the MAGA Hat

by: Brent Smith at the Common Constitutionalist

I think I’ve discovered the one thing is this country that’s more divisive than president Donald Trump.

No it’s not another politician like Pelosi, Kamala Harris or even AOC. It’s not Rush Limbaugh, the Koch Brothers or even Alex Jones.

It’s not a befallen actor like Smollett. It’s none of those. It’s actually an inanimate object.

If you guessed that it’s the red “Make America Great Again” hat, you win the prize.

It seems like that red hat sends leftists over the moon and causes them to attack. It’s all the hat’s fault. read more

False Attack Claims Caused by Trump Derangement

by: Brent Smith at the Common Constitutionalist

No Audio Version

When was the last time one, two, three, or however many Trump supporters attacked a black, a gay, lesbian, transgender man, woman or otherwise?

Let me think about it? Oh that’s right … almost never! However, the list of attacks on Trump supporters by wacky leftists is almost endless.

For sure, there are idiots on the right, but the overwhelming majority of attacks by supposed Trump supporters on innocent blacks, gays, Muslims, etc. turn out to be hoaxes.

There have been attacks, or those conspiring to do so, who claim to be Trump supporters. But when we look into the background of these supposed supporters, we find that they were unhinged prior to Trump and in fact just bought into the false narrative of the president which has pushed by the liberal press for years now – that Trump is a racist, homophobic, anti-Muslim bigot. And so, if you are a racist, homophobic, anti-Muslim bigot, he’s the man for you, or some such nonsense.

Of course Trump is none of those things. read more

WND Exclusive – DEMOCRATS’ SEMANTIC ABSURDITY OVER BORDER WALL

by Brent Smith for World Net Daily:

Words mean things. And to Democrats, words are the only thing, which is why they are literally tying themselves in semantic

knots over the southern border.

Image result for semantics

A few weeks ago, McClatchy News wrote, “There’s a strong constituency among Democrats for border barriers. Just don’t call it a concrete wall. While Democrats will not specify what they might propose next, one big clue came from [James] Clyburn [D-S.C.], a close Pelosi ally. Semantics matter, which is why he’s calling enhanced security a ‘smart wall.’” read more
