Enough with the Recusals – Republicans Need to Fight Back

by: the Common Constitutionalist

Here we go again – Republicans shooting themselves in the foot so as to not look bad or appear guilty by association. Even when there is no association.

First Attorney General Jeff Sessions, one the most honest and well-respected members of the Senate, recuses himself over absolutely nothing.

On March 2, 2017, AG Sessions proclaimed that he “never had meetings with Russian operatives or Russian intermediaries about the Trump campaign. And the idea that I was part of ‘a continuing exchange of information’ during the campaign between Trump surrogates and intermediaries for the Russian government is totally false.”

In other words, Sessions did absolutely nothing wrong. As a Senator, he met with the Russian ambassador, as he had met with many other nations’ ambassadors.

Sessions said that his staff advised him that since he was involved with the campaign, he shouldn’t be involved in any campaign investigation. He then said he recused himself in “any matters that deal with the Trump campaign.” read more

HUD Secretary Carson Unearths Massive Fraud

from Constitution.com:

Remember this from Dr. Ben Carson’s confirmation process as the incoming HUD Secretary?

“I have serious concerns about Dr. Carson’s lack of expertise and experience in dealing with housing issues. Someone who is as anti-government as him is a strange fit for Housing secretary, to say the least,” Schumer said in a statement.

Or this?

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) called Carson a “disconcerting and disturbingly unqualified choice.”

Or this?

Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio), the top Democrat on the Senate’s Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee, said the country “cannot afford a HUD Secretary whose spokesperson said he doesn’t believe he’s up for the job.”  read more

Is O’Reilly Looking Out for the Folks or Just Looking Out for Babes

by: the Common Constitutionalist

Like so many others, I tune into Fox news because it is literally the only cable alternative to a constant barrage of leftism. Sure, I tune in to get real news stories without a leftist spin, but more, I watch for the conservative commentary programs.

Now, between the ouster of Roger Ailes and the O’Reilly harassment accusations, I’d say Fox News has a bit of a problem. Certainly it is not insurmountable, but I’m sure it’s a concern for the execs at Fox.

And now that there appears to be blood in the water, the leftist sharks are circling O’Reilly and Fox, preparing for a feeding frenzy. One thing we should all know about the left – when they sense a problem on the right, they attack and don’t let go until their prey is vanquished. They never give up and never surrender (h/t: Galaxy Quest).

And the attacks on O’Reilly have begun. Salon.com posted a piece entitled “The no-ad zone: ‘The O’Reilly Factor’ may be tops on cable TV, but Bill O’Reilly is turning off advertisers.” read more

Protests Won’t Stop Trump – Why Not a Magic Spell

by: the Common Constitutionalist

Any time a Republican is elected president, there are bound to be protests by the left. George W. Bush had his share of selected, not elected, truther, anti-war nimrods and “Bush Lied – People Died” protests.

But leftist protesting has been more of a cottage industry until the election of Donald Trump. I don’t know what the employment rate for professional protesters was before Trump, but it has to have reached full employment by now.

One of Trump’s initiatives is to end all funded for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. Perhaps if they change their name to the Corporation for Public Protesting, they’ll be able to make up for the dearth of government funds by tapping one of George Soros’ many shell organizations.

Seriously – maybe I’m just more plugged in than ever before, but there appears to be enough anti-Trump protests groups to fill a set of Encyclopedias. For you younger readers – an Encyclopedia is a set of books with paper pages bound together, representing a cumulative base of knowledge.

There is even a book, recently published, entitled, “THIS IS AN UPRISING,” a “Key Guide for the Movement to Stop Trump!” read more

Podcast – 1-2-3-4 – I Declare a Twitter War

The Trump team is engaged in a Twitter war with members of the House Freedom Caucus. The President and his team are not taking kindly to the loss regarding RyanCare and have begun a war of words with Rep. Justin Amash of the Freedom Caucus.

This, in my opinion, is an ill-advised move on both sides.

I discuss the ins and outs of the so-called war and how counterproductive it is for both sides. read more

Late Night Obamacare Repeal!

Holy Crap! Just when we thought the establishment, President Trump and the Freedom Caucus would never be able to come together and circle the wagons like the dems are so good at – they appear to have pulled it off. In a secretive late night session the leaders of the House factions met with Trump and hammered out a full ObamaCare repeal agreement.

My sources say it was a stunning turn of events and that the Freedom Caucus got virtually everything they asked for.

The official announcement is said to come some time this weekend. read more

Shouldn’t Ryan’s Healthcare Failure be About Us?

by: the Common Constitutionalist

No Audio Version

Can we get a little perspective on the epic RINOCare fail? By perspective, I mean, exactly who it really harms.

There is a one word answer to the question of who it harms, and it doesn’t start with ‘T’. The word actually begins with ‘U’ – as in Us! Yet watching the weekend cable news broadcasts, there has been nary a word mentioned about the harm Paul Ryan’s phony “repeal and replace” bill has caused us – the Americans who voted for these bums.

We the “silent majority,” who, over the past few election cycles, have decided to not be so silent – to make our wishes known to these politicians. In return for our votes they have made promises.

Beginning in 2010, Republicans began an unbroken string of passing clean repeal bills. They’ve asked for our help to build majorities and WE made it happen. We even elected an “outsider” from the business community to aid in our quest to roll back government and rid us of ObamaCare. And for all our trouble – for all our hard work and heavy lifting, it is WE who have been stabbed in the back by Ryan and the establishment.

However, to historically reliable cables news outlets like Fox, it is like we don’t exist. It seems as if it is now all about politics – not people – not voters and taxpayers. read more

Dems Register Refugees to Vote

The following video is from Conservative Review. It shows the chairwoman of the Nebraska State Democrat Party speaking about welcoming immigrant and refugees into her State. She is proud that on a per capita basis, Nebraska welcomes the greatest amount of immigrants and refugees. I’m sure the people of the red State of Nebraska would be thrilled by this news.

The video shows her walking to and displaying several of what she calls welcome baskets for incoming refugees. There are the usual items, including blankets, pillows, toilet paper and such. And then on top of each basket, is an envelope she says is from the Nebraska State Democrat Party. Inside the envelope is a letter welcoming the new welfare recipients (my words – not hers), and one other thing – a VOTER REGISTRATION CARD!! Yes – a voter registration card, which is clearly illegal, but described by her in passing as harmlessly as reciting a shopping list.

The entire short video is a must see, but the shocker is at 2:36 in. What’s the democrat refrain – there is no voter fraud?

Podcast – Chuck Schumer Goes Off On Republicans Over RINOCare

Today I discuss Senate Minority Leader Chuckie Schumer, who had some choice words for President Trump, Speaker Ryan and the Republicans over their failed plan on Friday.

He complained that the GOP never even approached him regarding fixing ObamaCare. Instead they just froze out the dems and tried to go it alone – and failed. He’s says he’s not happy about it, but we know that’s a laugh. The dems are thrilled.

I explain that ObamaCare was written to fail, and that any effort by the Republicans to “fix” it, will be useless. It must be repealed in full. read more

Phase One Goes Down in Flames

by: the Common Constitutionalist

I’ve been watching the tube (that’s a television, for all you younger readers) and listening to the radio, collecting reaction to the Ryan health insurance proposal. The Democrats aside – it seems there was strong support for the bill.

The establishment Republicans were all on board, as well as die hard Trump supporters.

Then there were the House Freedom Caucus members, who were firmly against it. The most vocal Senate opponents were the usual suspects and real conservatives, Mike Lee, Ted Cruz and Rand Paul. Count me in their camp.

Not surprisingly, virtually everyone on a certain cable news channel supported the Ryan bill – not for Ryan’s sake, but because president Trump was on board. What I did find a little surprising and a bit disturbing is that the majority of conservative radio talkers were also for the bill. Check that. They weren’t backing Ryan and the bill. They appeared to be on board in defense of Trump’s decision to support it. To me this seems misguided and frankly sycophantic.

I still hold that president Trump was sold a bill of goods by Republicans. Sure, he’s a smart guy, but even smart guys can be fooled. read more
