Karen Handel for Senate

I’ll hold my judgement, but she is saying the right things…so far.

from the American Thinker:

Karen Handel is the type of candidate that all Republicans should be supporting. She is running in Georgia for the U.S. Senate because she feels that problem solvers should replace career politicians. Upon interviewing her, American Thinker found her to be articulate, thoughtful, and someone who will stand up for what she believes.

American Thinker: Why did you decide to become a candidate?

Karen Handel: I saw what was happening in Washington and it became abundantly clear that we need new leadership. We need people that will be elected to the Senate that will stop America from sliding into mediocrity. Looking at the Atlanta Journal Constitution Senate Poll taken last month I had the highest statewide favorable rating among Republicans, a commanding advantage in Metro Atlanta and Southwest Georgia and a strong second in Southeast and North Georgia. I have supporters from the business side as well as the grassroots side. read more

Obamacare to Decimate Jobs

The Affordable Care Act will push the equivalent of 2.3 million full-time workers out of the U.S. labor force by the year 2021, according to a stunning report from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office on Tuesday.

The office’s latest estimates threaten to puncture the Obama administration’s argument that Obamacare won’t be a long-term job killer, since incentives built into the health care law appear to be discouraging taxpayers from working.

‘CBO estimates that the ACA will reduce the total number of hours worked, on net, by about 1.5 to 2 percent during the period from 2017 to 2024,’ the CBO reported.

Obamacare “See We Told You So”

by: the Common Constitutionalist

The sign up for Obamacare is going so well it appears that insurance companies will need a bailout. And as bad as the sign up numbers are, the number of “customers” that have actually paid for the program is likely a fraction of the paltry sign up numbers.

The administration either doesn’t know or will not say how many have not just signed up, but actually bought in to the program.

It seems the only “customers” that Obamacare is attracting are the old, sick and dying. Obviously, as many have stated, the president’s program must be flush with younger healthier “customers” in order to be viable. Without those young healthy “customers” to underwrite the unhealthy, the program cannot pay for itself (not that it could anyway) and thus will require a bailout.

But Mitch McConnell said Obamacare would likely sink under its own weight as the realities of the law become more clear.

And there’s the “See We Told You So”! Obamacare will never “collapse” under its own weight as the spineless establishment Republicans said it would. It was never going to. It’s the law, after all. The Republicans knew it and they lied about it to everyone because the leadership are scared little girlie man that can’t or won’t take the fight to the Democrats and our dictator in chief. read more

Obama on Obamacare: “Catch Me If You Can”

by: the Common Constitutionalist

When my boys were younger, they would gather up several friends, assemble at our house and all walk into the woods to play Air Soft war games.

For those unfamiliar, Air Soft is like a BB gun, but uses plastic, not metal BBs, so the kids can’t be hurt if one hits them.

Once in the woods, I would set up boundaries the combatants couldn’t go beyond as well as both opposing sides bases of operations, or home base, as they called it.

Prior to each skirmish, everyone would gather and I would explain the rules to any newcomers and review them for those VAW’s (Veterans of Air Soft War).

When I was satisfied that everyone knew the rules of engagement, I dismissed the combatants to their bases to strategize for the coming battle.

After many battles over the course of the years – virtually every kid was veteran and the rules review was very short. Eye protection – check. Boundaries – check. What to do if you’re hit – check. That was about it.

These were specific “laws” that could not be broken. They all knew this and if caught by the referee, me, they would be ejected for the entire day, if
not forever. Remove your eye protection during a battle – gone. If I witness you being hit and you lie and say you weren’t – gone, etc.

Now, what if, during a match, I, as the dispenser of justice just decide to change the law? Oh, I don’t mean at the briefing prior to engagement. I mean in the middle of the battle.

Little Johnny takes off his eye protection. Bobby sings out that Johnny is ejected for doing so. I witness the offense but tell Bobby that because his name starts with a “J”, Johnny is exempt. Billy shoots Eddie, but because it was a red BB, not green, Eddie is exempt.

Eventually all the combatants would just throw up their hands and say “we quit” and start yelling at my sons that it’s impossible to play if their dad keeps changing the law.

Now does this sound familiar? Obamacare is the war-game, the insurers and insured are the combatants and I represent our less than benevolent dictator.

What Obama is doing with his crowning achievement is just that. He’s changing the law on the fly. These are not just rules changes. These are changes to the law itself, which is absolutely illegal.

Don’t be fooled by the White House’s line of crap that Obama is legally able to “tweak” the regulations. They know this is illegal, but like any other criminal enterprise, don’t care. It’s “Catch Me If You Can”.

Now just setting legality aside, put yourself in the position of these insurers. Also, put aside the fact that they should have seen this coming. They were all for this. They, in fact, were cheerleaders for Obamacare, banking on millions of new customers.

Putting all this aside, how can they now run their businesses? Insurance companies had to cancel many policies due to Obamacare’s minimum coverage requirements.

So these companies expended incredible time and money to abide by the law only to have the president change it retroactively.

But hey, Obama is a golfer (a bad one). Maybe he thinks he can take a Mulligan or two, or three, or more.

His latest Mulligan is the “hardship exemption” of the individual mandate, which has thrown the entire insurance industry into chaos.

To qualify for the exemption, the individual with the canceled coverage must simply “believe” that the Obamacare options are “unaffordable”. No proof is necessary.

Forbes reported that the, “hardship exemption will encourage healthier individuals, whose expected [medical care] spending would be low, to drop out of the [insurance] pool”, causing insurance costs to skyrocket and insurers to lose money on the remaining policies.

Remember folks – this is but the beginning. Yet even after what has already transpired, there is no call by Congress to just repeal the monstrosity that is Obamacare.

Will we ever learn that government can’t do anything right and certainly not better than can the private sector?

Evidently, the answer is no.

The Girlie Man Party

by: the Common Constitutionalist

When John Boehner said to effectively read his lips: If you are for tax cuts, you are for this budget; did you believe him?

When Paul Ryan explained that this budget is the best deal we can get, did you believe him?

When old Johnny Boehner went on to exclaim that the budget deal, which fully funds Obamacare, is far from perfect, but it’s a start; did you believe him then?

Do you believe anything the Republicans are saying about this disastrous budget agreement? No? Me either.

Yet there is a positive that has come out of this bogus budget busting deal. And don’t believe the lies. There are no budget cuts – only the usual hollow promises.

So what’s the positive? We can, once and for all, plainly see who is on our side and who is not. We can clearly see who will fight and who will cave. Who has true courage and who are spineless.

And it all comes down to one word: Shutdown, or fear of another dreaded shutdown. read more

Obama the Racist

by: the Common Constitutionalist

Remember back a year or two ago? All we heard were complaints by the left that racism was driving the Republican effort for new “more restrictive” voter ID laws. How the poor and minority communities would be effectively locked out of the 2012 elections.

In April 2012, a guy wrote a piece on the website “Sojourners”. Their motto: Faith in Action for Social Justice. That’s not scary!

He explained that, “People concerned about the new voter laws contend that the ID requirements erect an unnecessary barrier for some voters, which raises an obvious question: why is it so difficult for some people to get a photo ID? After all, you just pop down to the motor vehicle bureau, show your birth certificate or passport and a few utility bills from your house to prove your stable address, and voilà! But for many people, it’s not quite so easy, starting with the birth certificate, which many poor people and recent immigrants may not have at their fingertips. And, of course, people without photo IDs don’t have drivers licenses, and likely don’t have a car, so getting to government offices-especially in rural areas without public transportation-can be a complicated, time-consuming process…”

In October 2012, Jeremiah Goulka recounted and experience in 2006: “At the time, my roommate worked at a local bank branch, and that evening when we got into a conversation, he mentioned to me that the bank required two forms of identification to open an account. Of course, who wouldn’t? But then he told me this crazy thing: customers would show up with only one ID or none at all-and it wasn’t like they had left them at home. Really? I said, blown away by the thought of it. Yeah, really, he answered. And here was the kicker: every single one of them was black and poor.” read more

Democrat Senator Opposed Obamacare Quick-Fix

A Colorado Democrat who introduced a U.S. senate bill Wednesday to prevent insurance policy cancellations under Obamacare voted against a 2010 resolution that would have done just that.

But now, trying to upstage President Obama, Sen. Mark Udall is declaring victory – saying the president’s call Thursday for insurance companies to stop cancellations a “scaled down version” of his solution to “ensure that the health care law works for Coloradans.” read more

Dingy Harry Can Be Stopped… If We Have the Guts

by: the Common Constitutionalist

So Harry Reid actually did it. He finally pulled the trigger on the so-called “Nuclear Option”. And what does that mean for us – for our country? Nothing good, I’m afraid.

The “nuclear option” refers to the Senate’s advice and consent of a president’s nomination of cabinet heads and judges. With a single party line vote (all but three), Harry Reid has made the confirmation process much easier. It now takes but a 51 vote simple majority to confirm a nominee. It had been 60 votes.

Some have said, “Well at least it doesn’t include Supreme Court nominees”. That is correct. The Supreme Court is exempt from the new simple majority rule… that is until the Democrats decide they also want to include it. The only reason the Supreme Court was left out, was simply because no one on the court has claimed they are retiring. If say, Ruth “Buzzy” Ginsberg wanted to call it quits, the Supreme Court would’ve been part of the simple majority deal. You can bet on that.

So with that vote, the radicals in the Senate led by Reid are free to pack the lower courts, expand the courts and create new courts if they wish. What do I mean by expanding create? They can do that? Yep!

The United States Constitution states that, “the judicial power of the United States, shall be vested in one Supreme Court, and in such inferior courts as the Congress may from time to time ordain and establish” (Emphasis added).

So they can create whole new courts and expand the numbers of leftist judges on current courts to overwhelm the right. read more

Dumb and Dumber on Fox News Sunday

by: the Common Constitutionalist

I used to watch Fox news on Sunday morning. Not all the time, but when I did tune into Sunday news, it was always Fox. I thought it was the only chance of getting relatively accurate and unbiased reporting.

However, as many of us become more educated, I at least find it more and more difficult to watch even Fox News.

A case in point was this past Sunday. Chris Wallace had as his guest, Bob Woodward, the fossil of Watergate fame.

Has Woodward done anything of significance since the Nixon era? If so, I don’t recall it. It’s like Al Bundy of the comedy “Married with Children”. His life was one failure after another, yet he still regales everyone he meets with the story of scoring four touchdowns in one high school football game, decades earlier.

Anyway, Wallace was interviewing Woodward about the Obamacare rollout disaster. He asked Woodward if he had seen anything like it, being that Woodward had been around for so long.

Woodward’s answer: “Well, I have to think about what this is. It’s a mess, clearly, but what it isn’t, and I think you have to look at the question of motive. And the president’s motive here, even through their deep problems with implementation, he wants to do something good for 30 million people and get them health insurance. So this isn’t Watergate. This isn’t Clinton and Monica Lewinsky.” read more
