Trickle Down and Tax Cuts

By Walter E. Williams

Dr. Thomas Sowell’s “‘Trickle Down Theory’ and ‘Tax Cuts for the Rich'” has just been published by the Hoover Institution. Having read this short paper, the conclusion you must reach is that the term “trickle down theory” is simply a tool of charlatans and political hustlers.

Sowell states that “no such theory has been found in even the most voluminous and learned histories of economic theories.” That’s from a scholar who has published extensively in the history of economic thought. Several years ago, Sowell, in his syndicated column, challenged anyone to name an economist from any economic school of thought who had actually advocated a “trickle down” theory. To date, no one has quoted any economist who ever advocated such a theory. Trickle down is a nonexistent theory. Those who use it simply argue against a caricature rather than confront an argument actually made.

President Barack Obama recently criticized Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan for trying to sell a tax plan, which he called “trickledown snake oil.” Criticizing tax cuts as trickle down is a way not to confront the argument; however, there’s empirical evidence about the effects of tax cuts. Sowell shows that during the Warren Harding administration, in 1921, Secretary of the Treasury Andrew Mellon advocated tax rate cuts, which were enacted into law by Congress. Afterward, there was rising output; unemployment plummeted; and the resulting higher income produced greater federal tax revenues, even though the tax rate had been lowered (see: The Great Depression). There were somewhat similar results in later years after high tax rates were cut during the John F. Kennedy, Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush administrations.

The facts about the 1920s tax rate cuts are unmistakably clear for those who bother to check the facts. In 1921, when the tax rate on people earning more than $100,000 a year was 73 percent, the federal government collected a little more than $700 million in income taxes, of which 30 percent was paid by those earning more than $100,000. By 1929, after the tax rate had been cut to 24 percent on incomes higher than $100,000, the federal government collected more than $1 billion in income taxes, of which 65 percent was collected from those with incomes higher than $100,000.

In 1962, Democratic President John F. Kennedy pointed out that “it is a paradoxical truth that tax rates are too high today and tax revenues are too low and the soundest way to raise the revenues in the long run is to cut the rates now.” Both Presidents Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush made similar arguments, and the tax rate cuts had the effect of stimulating economic growth while increasing federal tax revenue and shifting a greater percentage of the tax burden on to wealthier individuals.

One very insightful part of Sowell’s paper is the discussion about what Mellon called the “gesture of taxing the rich” — namely, tax-exempt securities that he tried unsuccessfully to put an end to. Tax-exempt securities and other tax breaks are valuable tools in the politics of class warfare and envy. Politicians have it both ways. They get votes by raising taxes on the wealthy — or threatening to do so — and at the same time provide the wealthy with a way out of high taxes through tax-exempt securities. This explains how President Obama can raise tens of millions of dollars in campaign contributions from Hollywood millionaires and Wall Street’s rich and powerful. “Tax cuts for the rich” demagoguery is simply the height of deceit perpetrated on gullible people and useful idiots.

You can bet that the White House has people reading every bit of the news, including this column and Dr. Sowell’s article. You can bet some people in the news media will read it, as well. Despite the facts that Sowell has marshaled, they will continue to use trickle down theory and “tax cuts for the rich” demagoguery, even though they now have hard evidence to the contrary, because they can count on widespread gullibility and inability to do critical thinking.

A Beltway Moderate Speaks

By: Robert Bowen

With comments by the Common Constutionalist [ ]

Wall Street Journal columnist and former Reagan staffer Peggy Noonan said in a Wall Street Journal video released Thursday that Mitt Romney “looked Weak today.” She added, “At one point, he had a certain slight grimace on his face when he was taking tough questions from the reporters. And I thought, ‘He looks like Richard Nixon.’ ”

Noonan was referring to Romney’s news conference Wednesday morning were he doubled down on his attacks on President Obama after the killing of a U.S. ambassador and three other Americans in Libya.

On Fox News Wednesday Noonan said “I don’t feel that Mr. Romney has been doing himself any favors, say in the past few hours, perhaps since last night,” She added, “Sometimes when really bad things happen, when hot things happen, cool words or no words is the way to go.” [ And sometime things just have to be said, whether moderates recoil from it or not ]

She tried to give Romney some advice saying “I think… that in times of great drama and heightened crisis, and in times when something violent has happened to your people, I always think discretion is the better way to go,” Noonan said. “When you step forward in the midst of a political environment and start giving statements on something dramatic and violent that has happened, you’re always leaving yourself open to accusations that you are trying to exploit things politically.” [ Hey Peggy; news flash. Romney will not get a fair hearing from the press, no matter what he says or does not say, as plainly demonstrated by last weeks audio of reporters colluding against him. ]

Noonan knows what she is saying. She worked for Ronald Reagan. In 1980 when the effort to free the hostages in Iran failed because U.S. helicopters crashed in the desert, Reagan did not come out blasting President Carter. Instead, he said that “this is a time for all Americans to come together and mourn the dead Americans and pray for the hostages.” [ There is a difference. Carter was just wholly inept. Obama doesn’t care, nor, it appears, does Hilary Clinton.]

It was not until six full days later that Ronald Reagan made a political statement about how he disagreed with President Carter’s policies. Reagan is Romney’s hero but perhaps not a role model.

Romney came out Tuesday night with a political statement blasting Obama before he knew any of the facts. The next morning after he knew the identity of just one of the victims, he doubled down on his attacks. [ Yes, and it was much worse after just some of the facts were revealed. Frankly he should’ve heve triple-downed, if there is such a thing. ]

When asked about Romney’s statements, President Obama told CBS’s Steve Kroft “Governor Romney has a tendency to shoot before he aims, and as President I learned you can not do that.” [ Really Mr. President? Not like the time when you’re buddy, the professor from Cambridge was arrested, and before anything was known of the incident, you claimed the police acted stupidly. That was a calculated and thoughtful response.]

Most Republican leaders and politicians have taken a muted posture on the Embassy killings focusing instead on sending condolences and prayers to the families of the slain. However, Romney’s and his running mate Paul Ryan have continued to double down on criticism of the President. [ Well goody for them. We all know, most of the republican leaders are afraid of their own shadows.]

Rush Limbaugh, Sarah Palin, and Ann Coulter have come to Romney’s defense, however. The problem with that is that the people that listen to Coulter, Palin, and Limbaugh would vote for Romney over Obama even if Mitt were arrested nude on the Capitol steps for a sex crime, high on drugs, shooting at the police.

The people that listen to Peggy Noonan and other sane and thoughtful voices are independents and persuadable voters that Romney needs. He already has the anti-Obama far right wing and the anti-Islam faction. [ Ah yes. Here we go with the beloved independents. That’s where the election is won. NOT! If old Peggy was such an expert on Reagan she would know that’s not what Ronaldus Magnus did. He boldly proclaimed his

The Number of Great Moderates in History

conservative ideals and ideas and the people followed him, because they knew he meant it. He did not try to couch his speech or move to the beloved center. Ms. Noonan, you may have been a conservative once upon a time, but you’ve been inside the beltway for too long. You, my dear, are a moderate, which is simply a liberal without the courage to admit it.]

Romney does not look like he is ready for prime time. He looks amateurish and insensitive. He has an empathy problem and this just reinforced that. Obama is President and he is looking Presidential. Romney and Ryan look desperate, political, opportunistic, and unsteady. Romney has failed a test on national TV, in prime time, but he keeps on digging in deeper. [ Wow. Romney is one the most caring and sensistive people in public view that I know of. Here is just one example. From what I understand there are dozens more like it that the general public knows nothing of. ]

Romney’s statement was not a spur of the moment event. He and his campaign had over 12 hours to think it over before he issued the first statement. The reason is conservatives like Limbaugh, Coulter, Palin, and Laura Ingram have been screaming at Romney to “get ideological on Obama.” They want him to attack, attack, and attack–with gloves off. So, that is what he is doing. [ And good for him. Someone needs to call the president out for who he really is.]

Time will tell, but it looks like Romney is getting bad advice. A strong leader would get that advice, but have the wisdom to ignore it given the nature and gravity of the situation. It does not appear right now that Romney is winning hearts and minds with his approach.

[ Peggy, my advice to you is to check in at the nearest moderates nursing home and leave the real conservative thought to those of us that see this country is in real trouble and Romney is our best hope for possibly taking it back from radicals that have taken over.  Maybe the home will give you a group discount if you bring some others with you, like John McCain, John Boehner, Bill Kristol, Mitch McConnell, et al.]

We Need a Good Man

by: the Common Constitutionalist

It’s fair to say, I wasn’t a fan of Mitt Romney. Like me, many conservatives considered Mitt our second or third choice. More and more, I’m coming around to a different way of thinking. Yes, this country desperately needs new leadership. We need to reverse liberal policy and strive to return to our Constitutional roots.

I am, however coming to the conclusion that more than anything, we need a leader with unwaivering character. We all know the statement, “America is great because it’s people are good.”

I’ve heard the following story but was unaware of the details. This nation needs Mitt Romney for he is good man.

by: The Godfather of Godfather Politics

It’s been said by the Democrats that Mitt Romney is a murderer, felon, and tax cheat. Democrats have also maintained that Bain Capital is all about making money and destroying the little guy. As it is with Liberals, there are no facts to back up the allegations. People are supposed to believe them because the Democrats say they’re true. Here’s a story about Mitt Romney that’s been fact checked.

“In July 1996, the 14-year-old daughter of Robert Gay, a partner at Bain Capital, had disappeared. She had attended a rave party in New York City and gotten high on ecstasy. Three days later, her distraught father had no idea where she was. Romney took immediate action. He closed down the entire firm and asked all 30 partners and employees to fly to New York to help find Gay’s daughter. Romney set up a command center at the LaGuardia Marriott and hired a private detective firm to assist with the search.

“He established a toll-free number for tips, coordinating the effort with the NYPD, and went through his Rolodex and called everyone Bain did business with in New York, and asked them to help find his friend’s missing daughter. Romney’s accountants at Price Waterhouse Cooper put up posters on street poles, while cashiers at a pharmacy owned by Bain put fliers in the bag of every shopper. Romney and the other Bain employees scoured every part of New York and talked with everyone they could – prostitutes, drug addicts – anyone.

“That day, their hunt made the evening news, which featured photos of the girl and the Bain employees searching for her. As a result, a teenage boy phoned in, asked if there was a reward, and then hung up abruptly. The NYPD traced the call to a home in New Jersey, where they found the girl in the basement, shivering and experiencing withdrawal symptoms from a massive ecstasy dose. Doctors later said the girl might not have survived another day. Romney’s former partner credits Mitt Romney with saving his daughter’s life, saying, ‘It was the most amazing thing, and I’ll never forget this to the day I die.’

“So, here’s my epiphany: Mitt Romney simply can’t help himself. He sees a problem, and his mind immediately sets to work solving it, sometimes consciously, and sometimes not-so-consciously. He doesn’t do it for self-aggrandizement, or for personal gain. He does it because that’s just how he’s wired.

“Many people are unaware of the fact that when Romney was asked by his old employer, Bill Bain, to come back to Bain & Company as CEO to rescue the firm from bankruptcy, Romney left Bain Capital to work at Bain & Company for an annual salary of one dollar. When Romney went to the rescue of the 2002 Salt Lake Olympics, he accepted no salary for three years, and wouldn’t use an expense account. He also accepted no salary as Governor of Massachusetts.

Character counts!! (and yes…that’s worth reading again!)”

This story reminds me of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:29–37) in that he used his own funds to care for the man found on the road:

”A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among robbers, and they stripped him and beat him, and went away leaving him half dead. And by chance a priest was going down on that road, and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. Likewise a Levite also, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan, who was on a journey, came upon him; and when he saw him, he felt compassion, and came to him and bandaged up his wounds, pouring oil and wine on them; and he put him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn and took care of him. On the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper and said, ‘Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I return I will repay you.’ Which of these three do you think proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell into the robbers’ hands? And he said, ‘The one who showed mercy toward him.’ Then Jesus said to him, ‘Go and do the same'”.

Real News

Todd Akin took his foot out of his mouth long enough to declare he is staying in the race! Evidently it’s the biggest story of the year. So big, President Obama had to come the podium to capitalize  speak on the topic.

“The One” has not given a press conference for at least a few months now. I guess there hasn’t been much of great import of which to speak. Until this earth-shattering news of Todd Akins dimwitted statements about rape & pregnancy. Maybe if his name was Todd Biden, he would get a pass.

So here we are, talking about some no-name senate candidate. But, hey, it’s a lot more important than say, the Chinese and Japanese in a rather heated argument over the ownership of the Senkaku/Diaoyu islands in the China Sea. The conflict has sparked huge protests in Sichuan province, China, with no resolution in sight. China and Japan aren’t exactly bossom buddies as it is. Their animosity for each other runs pretty deep already. What could possibly happen that’s any of our concern, I ask ya?

But hey, how about those tax returns of Mitt Romney? What’s he trying to hide, anyway? Knowing that the IRS doesn’t have any problem with him is immaterial. Sure, he’d be in prison for tax evasion if they did, but hey, it’s important and the American People want to know, I guess. It has to be more important than Egypt’s wonderfully democratic uprising, the “Arab Spring”, which has spawned an Islamic dictator in Mohammad Morsi that is now more powerful than the secular dictator they just threw out, Hosni Mubarak and is tied to the Muslim Brotherhood who’s intent is to destroy Israel. But hey, where are Romney’s tax returns. That’s what people want to know. I know it’s true because that’s what the dems and the press keep telling us.

We now know Obama’s favorite super power would be the power to speak every language.  The president said he would “love to be able to speak any language,” even though “it might not come in handy to rescue folks from a burning building.” Obama says he’s a “big believer in making connections with people.” We know this because he told it to some bubbleheaded morning drive radio show hosts during a phone interview with KOB-FM in Albuquerque, N.M. We also learned he listens to Beyonce while working out. Hard hitting stuff, I know. Much more important than say, the Israel, Iran conflict. Prime Minister Netanyahu has all but guaranteed a strike on Iran nuclear facilities. But hey, how is that more important than Barack’s super power. We still don’t know what type of tree he would be. Maybe he’s saving that gem for his next hard-hitting interview.

Speaking of investigative journalism. Were we? Anyway, we find out Paul Ryan’s ex-girlfriend was black. I don’t know if she still is. Being that Ryan must be a racist, he probably took her to his lab in his parents basement to whiten her up. Kind of like One Hour Martinizing. If you’re a white racist, you know what I’m talkin bout. You know that knowledge is paramount relative to the economy.

This is what the American people must know. They certainly don’t need to know whether their house will be foreclosed. They’re unconcerned with the uneployment rate. They’re utterly disenchanted with potential taxmegeddon next year. Why would anyone care about such trivial things when there’s a Mormon vying for the Whitehouse. He’ll probably turn it into a temple. Those Mormons. We all know what their up to.

We all just want to know when Romney will release those darn tax returns and whether Joe Biden wears mismatched socks! All will be right with the world with that knowledge. You know this to be true.

Shadow OPS

How to Turn Paul Ryan into “Obama’s Shadow”

By: Wayne Allyn Root

If there’s one man in America born for the job of debunking Obama’s myths and lies, it’s Paul Ryan.

As a political pundit, I have to admit my initial reaction to Romney’s choice of Paul Ryan for V.P. was surprise. Ryan won’t gain Romney Latino votes, or expand Romney’s base. And, quite frankly, he’s not the most exciting guy in the room. Ryan is a policy wonk extraordinaire and boy genius. But those are not ideal attributes for giving rousing speeches. Not surprisingly, my first choice for the job was Florida Senator Marco Rubio.

But, after a day of thought, my opinion has changed 180 degrees. Romney made a brilliant move – he found himself a Stealth Weapon. Someone that proves that Obama is a phony. Someone who proves that Obama is not the smartest guy in the room. My advice- from one former Vice Presidential nominee to another- is to capitalize on Paul Ryan’s unique brainpower and talents by turning Ryan into “Obama’s Shadow.” More on that later.

First, Romney made a bold move by not taking the easy road with a Pawlenty or Portman (“old white guys” just like him). He picked the architect of the GOP Congressional budget plan- the ONLY plan by any politician that at least attempts to slow the growth of spending (although I believe Ryan should have gone even further). Picking Paul Ryan embraces cutting government spending as the centerpiece of Romney’s campaign. He’s not hiding from controversy, or what Obama’s socialist cabal calls “radical ideas.” Romney is going for it. To be blunt, I didn’t think he had it in him. Bravo.

The image Team Romney has created is simple and stark- vote Romney/Ryan to at least try to control the size of government, cut spending and debt, reform entitlement programs to save them for future generations, and encourage small business to create jobs…

Or stick with Obama/Biden and choose pure insanity – embrace even more spending, more debt, bigger government, and keep demonizing and punishing the small business owners that create the jobs and actually pay for all government programs. Keep telling them “the private sector is doing fine” while you raise their taxes and ruin their businesses, and keep demoralizing them by telling them “You didn’t build that.” Voting for Obama is like killing the goose that laid the golden egg.

Romney has laid down the gauntlet. Like the heroic firemen running into the burning World Trade Center, Romney ran towards the tough choices, controversy, and claims by liberals that “women, children and elderly will starve.” Romney doubled down. Again, I just didn’t think he had it in him.

Romney’s choice of Ryan also shows that his strategists made the decision that this election will be won in the “Heartland of America” with Midwestern values. The Midwest has been ignored for decades. Midwesterners are starving for attention. This is a brilliant move. This is a battle cry for every Midwestern, Catholic/Christian, suburban, hunter, fisher, NASCAR/NFL lover (especially if you love the Green Bay Packers), “married with kids” American voter. There aint no foolin’ around here.

Romney will win this election by out-raising and out-spending Obama to bring out record numbers of those dissolutioned by Obama’s lies and divisiveness- white, middle class, Catholic/Christian, suburban, married, and those voters who regardless of race, religion, or location, believe in those values that have made America the greatest nation on Earth. The choice of Ryan as V.P. makes it clear that if you vote for Romney, you won’t get something for nothing, money doesn’t grow on trees, and the way to solve a debt crisis is not with more spending and debt.

Romney is gambling that the battle will be won in the Midwest- Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa (with Pennsylvania thrown in for good measure). Can Romney sweep those states? Ask Governor Scott Walker, who passed major union reforms in Wisconsin and then won his recall by a landslide. Congressman Paul Ryan has won by landslides year after year in a pro-union, heavily Democratic, Wisconsin Congressional district. Ryan knows how to win over moderate, independent, married with children voters who hunt, fish, and go to church on Sundays.

But most importantly, as a former Vice Presidential candidate myself, I have advice for how Romney can put Paul Ryan’s brainpower and policy wonk talents to use. Earlier today I watched Congressman Ryan on YouTube debating and making mince-meat of both President Obama and Congressional leader Debbie Wasserman-Schultz on the topic of Obamacare. This guy is seriously smart. As in “boy genius” smart. So here’s my advice…

Turn policy genius Paul Ryan into “Obama’s Shadow.” Send Ryan to criss-cross the nation to shadow Obama’s every move. Wherever Obama speaks, Ryan follows- in the same town, only hours or a day later. Ryan’s job is to intelligently rebut everything Obama says. To call Obama on his fraudulent math. To expose Obama for the phony he is. To show by comparison that Obama is only a good talker, but he’s not as smart as advertised. Ryan really is the smartest guy in the room. Put him side by side with Obama to prove it.

Ryan will expose Obama as a phony- in the same town, and on the same local evening news. Ryan proves that Obama is full of hot air. Ryan unmasks him as a teleprompter reader with no understanding of the nuts and bolts of the budget. Ryan turns Obama into “the emperor with no clothes.”

This is Paul Ryan’s role of a lifetime. He is the brightest policy wonk in America. Unleash him to use his intelligence and mastery of facts to hound Obama and debunk Obama’s tall tales. If there is one man perfect for framing in detail how Obama’s ideas have damaged the U.S. economy and killed jobs, it’s Ryan. If there is one man who can paint the devastating picture of what happens to our children and grandchildren if we follow Obama’s plan for another 4 years, it’s Ryan.

YouTube the video of Ryan schooling Obama about the lies and math fraud of Obamacare. Ryan clearly knows more about Obamacare than Obama does. My educated guess is that Ryan knows more about every issue than Obama does.

Paul Ryan is Obama’s Shadow…and the real smartest guy in the room.

Romney Changes Mind, New V.P. Pick Is…

Breaking News! by the Common Constitutionalist

This just in! Mitt Romney changes his mind regarding his choice of running mate. In a sudden turnabout, Romney turns his whole campaign on its head.

Paul Ryan is out. Romney said to an anonymous source, he wanted to go in another direction. He claimed to the source, he wanted to get away from the conservative policy man.

His new choice. Jesus Christ.

And not even a Power Tie

Immediately, the democrats sprang to action, with attack ads and pundits flooding the talk circuit. It’s as if they were tipped off prior to the announcement.

The first ad to hit network TV was of Mr. Christ pushing an old woman in a wheel chair over a cliff. When asked, Debbie Blabbermouth Shultz said she was unaware of any ties between the Obama White House and the Superpac that produced the ad. The Superpac claiming responsibility for the ad is relatively new. Not much is known of it.  It does have a fairly lengthy name, so as do most of them , it has an acronym; WNPOAWPac. It evidently stands for, We are Not Part of the Obama Administration – We Promise.

A panel on MSNBC was convened in short order. Chris Matthews emphatically refuted the republican claims that the selection could cement the ticket thus saving the nation from almost certain destruction. Matthews was unconvinced, stating that there was only one true savior of mankind and he was already in the White house. If you looked closely, during that segment, it appeared Matthews leg actually shivered.

David Axelrod appeared on CNN carrying a fish and a loaf of bread. He publicly challenged the new VP selection to, “Go ahead, feed the masses. I dare you to try without the assistance of the Farm Bill that your party has held up in congress.”

Late Saturday on NBC news, Andrea Mitchell interviewed Joe Septic, a man who claimed Jesus Christ willingly and with malice, ruined his life. He stated that years ago he suffered from post traumatic stress. Joe stated, “It was severely debilitating and I was unable to function outside the home.”  “From the war?”, asked Andrea. “No, Burger King, replied Mr. Septic. ” You see… this is really hard to relive.” “Take your time, added Andrea. Joe continued, “You see, years back I ordered a double cheeseburger, small fry and a vanilla shake. I picked up my order at the drive through and drove away. It seems they gave me a chocolate shake instead. I called 911. By the time the first responders arrived on the scene, it was too late. The damage to my mind had already been done.”

A few years later an acquaintance dragged Joe to an event with a relatively unknown motivational speaker. It turned out to be the new VP candidate, Jesus Christ. After the speech, Jesus went out into the crowd to interact with the attendees. Septic said, “Jesus approached me and laid his hand on my head saying he would make me whole again. I never asked him to do it. He just did it. As he walked away, my sanity returned.” Andrea said, ” And you never even asked him? How awful for you. And how did this encountered negatively affect you?” “Well, Ms. Mitchell, I lost all my government benefits and was forced to find a…a….a job.”  Joe added, “I do not think Mr. Christ realizes what he did to me. Furthermore, I do not think Jesus Christ was concerned.”

Andrea Mitchell, known in some circles to be a woman, later reported that Romney’s pick of Jesus was a vote against all suburban moms.  “I think that you’re going to see that they’ve decided that this is a base election. This is not a pick for suburban moms. This is not a pick for women. This is a pick for the base.” Evidently, this Jesus fellow is a pro-lifer.

So there you have it. A move sure to shake things up & according to the media, allow Obama to sail into a second term. For, of course, who in their right (or left) mind would vote for such a ticket.

New Yorker State of Mind

The following article was posted by  at The New Yorker website. At first blush, I was surprised at his myopic view, but then I awoke from my conservative dream-state to recall the source of the piece. Liberals are a mixed up, illogical bunch.

As is my want, I have added editorial comments in [ ].

If tonight’s reporting is correct [ which,of course, it was ] , and if Mitt Romney really does announce at 9 A.M. Saturday that Congressman Paul Ryan of Wisconsin is his running mate, Romney has made the most daring decision of his political career. [Daring? Ryan is a great choice but daring would have been Rand Paul or Allen West]

After spending weeks looking into Ryan’s history for The New Yorker, visiting his home town, and interviewing him twice, I am genuinely surprised that Romney chose him. First, let’s tally the risks of a Ryan pick. [ No,  first let’s ask why NO ONE ever did the same regarding our dear president. No one was (or is) even the slightest bit curious about him ]

For one thing, Ryan has no significant private-sector experience. Besides summer jobs working at McDonald’s or at his family’s construction company, or waiting tables as a young Washington staffer, Ryan has none of the business-world experience Romney frequently touts as essential for governing. In the run-up to his first campaign for Congress, in 1998, that gap was enough of a concern for Ryan that he briefly became a “marketing consultant” at the family business, an obvious bit of résumé puffing. [ Ok, come on now. Even he couldn’t have written this with a straight face. Private-sector experience? Really? Do the names Barack Milhous Obama and Joe Plugs Biden strike a familiar note? My 13-year-old son worked as a camp counselor trainee for 15 days this summer. He now has more private-sector experience than Milhous and Plugs combined. ]

But Ryan’s Washington experience is also light, at least for a potential President—which, after all, is the main job description of a Vice-President. Ryan has worked as a think-tank staffer and Congressman, but he’s never been in charge of a large organization, and he has little experience with foreign policy. Given how Sarah Palin was criticized for her lack of such experience, I’m surprised that Romney would pick someone whose ability to immediately step into the top job is open to question. [ This is comedy gold. A) Washington experience? Obama had 144 work days in the senate from the time of his election until he formed his presidential campaign. B) Are ACORN or the Black Panthers considered large organizations? C) Foreign Policy experience? Obama had exactly zero (other than possibly being a foreign national. Hah! Couldn’t resist) and Biden’s expertise is being wrong about everything ]

And the experience that Ryan does have is not exactly what voters are clamoring for at the moment. The bulk of Ryan’s House career coincided with the Presidency of George W. Bush, during which he was a reliable vote for many Bush policies that have not aged well: Medicare Part D; the Iraq War; and the Troubled Asset Relief Program. Ryan told me that voting for all of that spending, which added trillions to the deficit, made him “miserable,” but he’ll need a better explanation in his October debate with Joe Biden. [ Wow! Something we agree on. To say I didn’t care for the Medicare & TARP programs is an understatement, but those programs will look like a trip to the Dollar Store compared to the cost of Obamacare. Debating Joe, the gaffe machine, Biden? Biden is one of the dimmest bulbs to hold that or any other office ]

Presumably, Romney’s main reason for picking Ryan is not his early deficit-busting record but his more recent rise to celebrity as a crusading policy wonk determined to tame the federal government. Romney, who has been extremely vague about what he would do if elected, will now own Paul Ryan’s ideas, which include privatizing Social Security, turning Medicare into a voucher program, bloc-granting and drastically cutting Medicaid, and reducing discretionary spending to levels that would affect every popular government program. This Ryan agenda will now fill the vacuum created by Romney’s unwillingness to lay out the specifics of his own plan. Even before this (apparent) announcement, Democrats were planning on tying Romney to Ryan’s policy platform. Now Romney has done it for them. [ Possibly saving Social Security by privatizing it, √. Getting people more involved in their own Medicare decisions, √. Block granting to the states to allow them to be more efficient , thus saving money, √. Reducing discretionary spending, another word for waste, fraud and abuse, √ . Nature abhores a vacuum. It can either be filled with big government, progressive spending or free-market capitalism. I hope Romney owns it! ]

So what’s the potential upside? Romney seems to have realized that his spring and summer strategies have been a failure. Since winning the nomination, Romney’s plan has been to turn the election into a simple referendum on Barack Obama. With the ailing economy, Romney believed, he needed to do little more than stand around and wait for voters to sour on the incumbent. When they did, Romney would be there as the default alternative. In recent weeks, as Romney’s favorable ratings declined, some encouraging economic news dribbled out, and Obama’s poll numbers ticked up, a loud faction of Republicans began pointing out that Romney’s theory of the campaign was wrong. Their argument was that Romney needed to turn the race into more of an ideological debate. He needed, these Republicans said, to embrace a bold policy agenda that would dramatically contrast with Obama’s. Nobody made this case more loudly than Paul Ryan. Presidential candidates shouldn’t “run on vague platitudes and generalities,” he told me in one interview. “I want a full-throated defense for an alternative agenda that fixes the country’s problems,” he said in another. [ Referendum on the One? You got that right. That’s exactly what this is. I hope and believe Romney understands the people already in his corner would never vote Obama and the rest aren’t paying attention yet anyway. And it’s only been a failure to those pundits and hacks who believe their own heavily skewed polls. Now they have the ticket, it’s time to go on the attack ]

Romney’s choice of Ryan will undoubtedly be criticized as capitulation to the right, and this pick does seem to demonstrate that Romney is not able or willing to distance himself from the base of his party. But the good thing about the Ryan pick is that the Presidential campaign will instantly turn into a very clear choice between two distinct ideologies that genuinely reflect the core beliefs of the two parties. And in that sense, Romney’s choice of Paul Ryan is good news for voters. [ I hope he knows what side his bread is buttered. The right, the Tea Party, the real conservatives are the ones that have done all the heavy lifting to try to wrest control away from these tyrannical overlords. So far we’ve done a pretty fair job and I’m sure he see’s that.  I feel fairly confident he does ]

Mitt Romney, Father of our Nation?

So we recently learned the ancestry of our lord and savior, Barack Hussein Obama. After an exhaustive and no doubt expensive geneology search including DNA evidence & Ouija Boards, the Associated Press reports magical concrete evidence that our dear president is not only the descendent of slaves but undeniable proof he descended from the very first American slave. He’s even more authentic & awesome that we thought!

Of course, it’s not until nearing the end of the article (you know, the part that no one reads), the wholly unbiased AP admits the links are weak at best and really can’t be proved. What’s important is that it could be true if one just wants it to be badly enough.

Hearing of this revelation the RGCA (Republican genealogical Committee of America) decided to conduct its own study on presidential nominee, Mitt Romney.

The committees findings suggest Mitt Romney’s ancestry can be traced back to George Washington, the father of our nation.

Here are the indisputable facts:

Washington was known to sleep in many places, if you know what I mean.

We’ve all seen the signs, “Washington Slept Here”.

Well it seems George Washington may have taken a secret trip down below, to Ole Mexico.

In one of the places where “Washington slept”, lived a peasant girl named Consuelo Romneskasketa .

After Washington’s swift departure, most didn’t believe her, as she attempted to describe her tryst with George. She, however, retained proof of the affair. During the height of their night’s passion together, she got a splinter in her lip from one of George’s wooden teeth. The splinter, I hear, is still housed, under glass, in the Mexican museum of Antiquities.

The press of the day, hearing rumors upon Washington’s return to the states, asked him for comment. Was there any truth to the rumored affair with Mexican house girl Consuelo Romneskasketa? And what about this “Splinter”?

Washington’s purported answer was, “It depends on what the word, “Splinter” is.

Family Resemblance Anyone?

They also discovered the origin of Mitt’s name, which is apparently American Indian. Being that Southwestern American Indians and Mexicans have a similar heritage this was not uncommon, nor a surprise to the highly skilled linguists of the RGCA.

The english translation is as follows:

Mitt was derived from the Indian Mittaskeshaw, meaning outsourcing.

The linguists claim Romney comes from the Indian Romneskasketa, meaning, capitalist exploiter.

I wasn’t aware the Native Americans language had such words, but I am not going to question the experts.

So, there you have it. Absolute proof. Obama = First American slave, Romney = Father of our country.

Of Roads and Bridges

by: the Common Constitutionalist

So recently we learned a business person can’t make it on their own (certainly not a solar business). No business owner or entrepreneur ever made it with the great collective. It was thanks to everyone elses efforts. Evidently it does take a village to build a road or a bridge or a business.

I agree with Mitt Romney,  that every entrepreneur or business owner has received at least some assistance somewhere along the way. But he never said, nor does he believe, that someone didn’t build a business through their own sweat, blood and tears.

As an aside, I never thought I’d say, “I agree with Mitt Romney”, but I find myself doing just that. Maybe Mitt has seen the conservative light at the end of the tunnel? I don’t know. What I do know is that Mitt is saying the right things. I also tend to think he may actually believe them due to the conspicuous lack of teleprompters. He appears to be speaking from the heart. One doesn’t need a teleprompter when one is being honest. Obama has shown us that on many occasions; revealing his true, radical self, when he strays from his prepared text. Sorry for the digression.

If it were as King Barack describes, we would all be business owners. But we’re not. Some don’t have the drive or passion. Some don’t wish to work all day and half the night. Some would like to have weekends off. There’s nothing at all wrong with that. We can’t all be chiefs. Every business needs Indians. Employees are needed to do the tasks the owner no longer has time to do, you know, as he grows and expands his business. That doesn’t mean the employee or the neighbor down the street had anything to do with starting the business, anymore than the road or bridge.

To hear Obama describe it, to the cheers and hoorahs of the dimwitted clones in his audiences, the city, state or federal government decide to build a road to nowhere in particular, and the entrepreneur says to himself, ” Gee, look at that road leading to nowhere special. Why don’t I put a business on that road that leads to nowhere. I will go ask the community to help me think up, finance, build and run my business on the road to nowhere in particular.”

I’m sure Henry Ford thought just that. He must have looked out over the countryside, marvelling at all the paved roads. He then said to himself, “Self; The government must have had great forthought in creating these roads and bridges. Maybe I should mass-produce automobiles to take advantage of all the tarred over government maintained former cart paths. I’ll go see President Teddy Roosevelt. He’s a progressive. Surely he will issue me a government grant to build an assembly plant. I’ll even power it by harnessing the wind and the sun. Then I will go on a listening tour of the country, to discover how to build the business, for I have no idea how to achieve success on my own.”

Yes, that’s how Ford did it. Look it up. It’s all there in the history books.

Another thought: If a company hits a rough patch and has to lay people off  or plans to close all together, the business owner could ask the government to simply repave the road leading to it. That would certainly lead to its re-emergence. We’ll call it the “Tarmac Bailout”.

Although it happens all the time, it’s still very interesting to see everyone tie themselves into knots over a simple, honest statement. The media and Obama sycophants (one in the same), hitting the trail in lock step to attempt to explain away the genuine opinion of a collectivist.

Those of us who understand the president, would expect nothing less of a socialist.

Romney Bus Explodes!

Just another example of even handed, non-biased reporting. MSNBC’s Martin Bashir reports on the Mitt Romney’s, six state bus tour. As you watch, imagine the same report, substituting Obama for Romney. Think you would ever see such a thing? Me either. Way to go MSDNC.
