How is that Cancer Moonshot Progressing?

Recognizing, as I’m sure we all do, that every speech Barack Obama has ever given is a work of oratory genius and each monologue is more memorable than the last, I ask that you think back to his final State of the Union speech.

Amongst the ramblings from one statist government giveaway to the next, was a segment on what the President classified as the White House Cancer Moonshot. Obama stated on January 12, 2016 that, “last year Vice President Biden said that with a new moonshot, America can cure cancer.”

I’m not making light of this statement, and certainly not of Biden, for he lost his son Beau Biden to brain cancer in May of 2015.

Obama continued by saying that, “last month he [Biden] worked with Congress to give scientists at the National Institutes of Health, the strongest resources they’ve had in over a decade.” He received a standing ovation from virtually ever member in the chamber.

This is my problem. Not that Biden lost his son to cancer and wishes for no one else to suffer the way his son and family did. I get that. It’s the way almost everyone in government proposes to solve the problem. It’s always the same. The federal government ponies up billions of dollars of our money to fund quasi-government science projects, which rarely if ever accomplish anything. read more

Gun Violence Will Be Tops at the State of the Union

by: the Common Constitutionalist

Obama has begun his final year full court press to secure his legacy. He knows the clock is ticking and he must undo as much of the Constitution as possible prior to his exit. I believe one reason he appears to be pushing so hard is that he believes Hillary Clinton, one way or the other, will not win. She will either lose in the general election or her criminal behavior will finally catch up to her – therefore be unable to extend his radical legacy.

Of course one of the major issues for any statist is to begin the process of disarming the citizenry. So Obama has hit the road – giving speeches – using what Teddy Roosevelt called his “Bully Pulpit,” to spread his message of gun control.

As a slight aside, you’ve probably noticed that Obama, the Dems nor the press is promoting “gun safety.” See, the word “safety” carries with it a positive tone. When leftists speak of guns, which are as everyone knows inherently evil, they must take care not to detract from that message of evil with a word like “safety.”

Therefore, for leftists, guns must be forever linked with violence – thus the newly minted and focus group tested Democrat phrase, “Gun Violence.” Watch and listen for it – it’s everywhere. read more

Republican Sour Grapes

Arit John at Bloomberg.com reported on an interesting suggestion presented to the Republicans by the editor of National Review, Rich Lowry. He said that if he were John Boehner “I’d say to the president: ‘Send us your State of the Union in writing. You’re not welcome in our chamber.’”

Evidently Breitbart was in agreement, suggesting Boehner say “so that the elected representatives of the people do not have to listen to, or applaud, a man who is violating his oath of office in governing as a tyrant.” And Politico reports that some unnamed congressional Republicans are considering doing just that.

Bloomberg cites a Tweet of disagreement from Noah Rothman at HotAir: “I know many see this is as a great idea, but I don’t get it. Look petty, invite bad press, accomplish… What exactly?” read more

Obama’s View On Terrorism

President Obama’s State of the Union gave us a look at the premises driving his foreign policy. It showed that he believes Islamic terrorists to be driven by frustration over perceived injustices at the hands of the West, rather than an ideology. It is because of this belief that he can promote the nuclear deal with Iran and depict the regime as a less threatening version of the Soviet Union.

Three key lines in the speech illustrated the fundamentals underlying the Obama Administration’s foreign policy.

First, Obama indicated that he sees terrorism-sponsoring Islamist regimes as comparable to the communists of the Cold War. Both are primarily motivated by power and wealth and are open to mutually-beneficial deals. He said:

“If John F. Kennedy and Ronald Reagan could negotiate with the Soviet Union, then surely a strong and confident America can negotiate with less powerful adversaries today.” read more
