Eddie Gallagher Case Typifies the Dysfunction of SEAL Leadership

I’ve been mulling over writing about the poor treatment Navy SEAL Chief Petty Officer Eddie Gallagher received over the past few years at that the hands of the wussified modern American Naval community. The irony is that they are acting like leftists, as in they are acting simultaneously like politically correct girly-men and bullies.

By wussification, I mean hamstringing special operators with very limiting rules of engagement (ROE) and then bullying them if and when one steps over their arbitrarily created red lines. Add to that, the heavy toll of over-deployment.

I reached out to some operators I know, and unfortunately received little comment. I can certainly understand why.

Then I was sent this from SEAL Chief Brandon Webb’s site SOFREP. It pretty much sums up my feelings on the topic.

from Brandon Webb at SOFREP:

TRUMP’S INTERVENTION, GALLAGHER, WAR CRIMES, TOXIC CULTURE: THE ISSUES OF THE SEAL TEAMS

I wouldn’t want my son to be in the SEAL Teams that exist today, it’s a mafioso environment where everyone has dirt on each other. The culture is more Hells Angels than a professional Special Ops unit.” – Anonymous Navy SEAL

I was initially worried about addressing this topic because of the toxic peer pressure that exists among the SEAL community inside and outside. However, my business network kept asking me about Gallagher and Trump’s intervention in his case, and in the end, I decided that if the thought of speaking about this made me uncomfortable, I should just write about it.
