NYC Doctor Criminally Irresponsible

by: the Common Constitutionalist:

Maybe our government was right. Maybe all the geniuses they’ve been trotting out recently really do know what they’re talking about.

Since Ebola began to spread, the fear has been the jump to the United States and then it’s all over but the dying. But, at least so far, the disease has been harder to contract than we’ve been warning.

Heck, they’ve even discovered a vaccine in Canada that has been collecting dust for 10 years. A joint venture between the company NewLink and the Canadian government developed the vaccine a decade ago and just shelved it for lack of interest. It just wasn’t needed. read more

Bureaucracy Plus Ebola Equals Epidemic

by: the Common Constitutionalist:

As the threat of Ebola increases here in the United States, we’re starting to hear the government refrain, from Obama on down, that there is no need for panic. Of course these are the same folks telling us that a travel ban can’t possibly help – that “isolating” a country in order to prevent its spread won’t work.

Not to get off topic but if “isolating” a country won’t work, why then do we “isolate” individual patients? Isn’t that what an “isolation” ward is supposed to do – prevent the diseases spread?

Anyway, they ask us not to panic, yet it seems every day we hear of another suspected of having Ebola, and seems to take days before we find out whether it’s a false alarm.

They asked us to trust that our government is doing everything it can to keep us safe and protect us from this threat.

It seems one way of doing that would be to quickly determine whether someone has actually contracted the disease. For that, a test must be developed – a way of screening for the disease – maybe a screening machine.

Hey, what do you know – one already exists and it’s already being successfully used by our military… in Africa.

You may also have heard, or maybe not, that the machine developed by BioFire Diagnostics of Salt Lake City, is capable of screening for many viral, fungal, bacterial and parasitic pathogens. To screen for Ebola is just a matter of purchasing a software upgrade or kit for the FilmArray machine. read more

Secondhand Smoke More Dangerous Than Ebola

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has more safeguards against secondhand smoke than it does regarding Ebola, Dr. Jane Orient, director of the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons, said on Thursday.

“If you look at the precautions against secondhand smoke, they are absurd,” Orient told “The Steve Malzberg Show” on Newsmax TV. “The hazard from secondhand smoke, unless you’re just sensitive to it and it bothers you, are really nonexistent.

“And yet, we have all these … expensive restrictions against these non-hazards — and a pathogenic, lethal organism that can infect you with one to 10 particles, we’re so cavalier about?” Orient asked. “This just really does not make sense.” read more

Are We Just Being Irrational About Ebola?

by: the Common Constitutionalist:

Who’s tired of discussing Ebola? Yeah, me too. I keep trying to escape (the topic) but it just keeps pulling me back in. It is a serious subject and certainly not to be taken lightly.

It seems fears and scares over Ebola are spreading faster than the virus. Are they irrational fears? I don’t know – maybe, but we are all susceptible. Heck, my office manager wasn’t feeling well today and the first thing that entered my mind was… you got it… Ebola. I caught myself – but it did permeate my cranial cavity, as Rush Limbaugh would say.

I laughed at myself for even thinking such a thing, but nonetheless sent her home immediately.

So will the fear of an outbreak trump the actual disease? Might panic ensue over nothing? Is the scare just that, a baseless phobia? read more

The Lefts Quandary Over Tobacco

by: the Common Constitutionalist:

A rather odd convergence of stories and events is taking place this week and they all center on tobacco.

This week in Moscow, United Nations World Health Organization (WHO) is holding the COP6, the sixth meeting of the Convention of the Parties to discuss the FCTC, the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control. That’s a lot of acronyms! I feel like I’m back in the Navy.

As is typical of the despots at the U.N., a completely inept and ineffective organization, it is unable to make a real contribution to mankind. It must instead look for phantoms to battle – straw dogs.

To the left, tobacco is a vilified substance. It’s an easy target, so why not go after it?

First they have to label tobacco use as a global epidemic, which they have. Now, because it’s an “epidemic”, its essential that control of the substance be ramped up – thus the COP6. Through COP6, the WHO hopes to limit worldwide tobacco consumption, the way liberals always do – by taxation, price increases and regulation. read more

Maybe Now You Will Close the Border Mr. President

by: the Common Constitutionalist

Who’d have figured that the modern day plague (potentially) may be the cure for illegal immigration?

For years conservatives have struggled against the left and the Chamber of Commerce prostitutes, the establishment Republicans, to stop or at least stem the tide of illegals – to close the border.

No matter what the argument for closing the border, there were always politicians and interest groups standing in the way, trying to tell us what a great deal it will be – what a boon to our economy.

Pleas of stopping drug cartels, gangs and terrorists fall on deaf ears. Nothing can stop the flood.

But now we’re faced with an enemy we can’t see – an enemy we can’t arrest, detain or deport.

Despite the government and their dimwitted accomplices in the media, Ebola is for real and it’s already here. It may be isolated – it may not. read more

Ain’t No Stoppin the Amnesty Train

by: the Common Constitutionalist

The King has spoken! There is no stopping it – mass amnesty. The train is powered up, just waiting at the station for the green light from Obama. Nothing can (or should I say will) stop it. Not the states, which will bear the heavy burden of supporting these millions of “dreamers”, the Congress and certainly not the Senate.

No, this train is leaving the station. Now it’s just a question of when. We all know it will be after the midterms, about a month from now, but regardless of the election outcome, Obama will pull the trigger before year-end.

Recent developments, however, have some calling into question the wisdom of the open border/amnesty policy. You may have heard – it’s a minor ailment, a little something that’s been going around – Ebola.

Some actually have the audacity to say that we should be canceling all flights to and from the affected African countries. Our administration and their supporters think this is just a silly overreaction – that disallowing flights to and from America will just isolate those poor countries and hamper relief efforts. read more

Ebola – Don’t Panic – We Got This

by: the Common Constitutionalist

Our government has it all under control and we should believe them. After all, they’ve done so well with literally everything else.

We see how well this administration has handled Iraq and Afghanistan, not to mention ISIS, so far. The Obamacare website is running like a Swiss watch, or is that a Yugo.

They’ve brokered peace between Israel and the Palestinians. Oh wait… they haven’t. Russia and the U.S. have never been closer. Um… Okay, maybe not that one either.

All right, so this administration has made a few mistakes and miscalculations and maybe they haven’t been 100% honest, but hey, we all tell little white lies, don’t we?

But I just know they are all over this Ebola outbreak and I guarantee they are now and will be fully forthcoming about anything we need to know. After all, honesty is the cornerstone of the Obama administration.

So when I heard just recently that the Ebola virus Will Not make it to the United States, naturally I was relieved – that is until the virus made it to the United States.

When I heard rumors that Ebola might mutate into an airborne virus, it was panic time, until the CDC put my mind at ease. They said of the 23 known serious viruses affecting humans, none are known to have mutated in ways that infect humans. Whew! That was a close one. Then they offered this minor caveat: “Of course, we only know about a small portion of the existing viruses.” HUH? read more

Obama Takes the Lead – Finally

by: the Common Constitutionalist

So Barack “Milhous” Obama (hat tip Mark Levin) has finally found the enemy for which he can lead from the front. An enemy he doesn’t mind shelling out millions to defeat. An enemy he can fight without building a grand coalition for which to hide behind. An enemy he can fight with “boots on the ground”.

Of course this enemy can’t be seen by the naked eye for it is a virus – the Ebola virus.

I don’t mean to make light of this disease. It’s very serious and quite deadly. Of the 4000 that have been infected so far, over 2400 have already died. As I said, it’s deadly serious.

It’s just funny that Obama gives no thought to sending 3000 soldiers (and their boots) to African ground to fight a virus, yet refuses to do so to fight ISIL.

Yesterday on his radio show, Rush Limbaugh asked his call screener, “Snerdley, I didn’t know you could shoot a virus. Did you? This is the first I’ve heard that that is possible.” read more

Ebola Outbreak – But Don’t Worry – We’re Safe

by: the Common Constitutionalist

I don’t follow this stuff, but I believe the number one television show in America is called “The Last Ship”. I’ve been watching it. It has some intrigue and is fairly entertaining. It has a Navy ship, although only one – thus the name “The Last Ship”, guns, missiles and Ruskies. What else do you need?

It also has disease. Yes, the program is centered around a worldwide pandemic – a virus that has wiped out most of the world’s population.

This U.S. ship travels the seven seas, or will eventually I assume, searching for a cure, a vaccine for the virus, which is so deadly that if contracted, has a 100% mortality rate.

Now, is it life that imitates art or art that imitates life? I think it’s the latter and in our current, real life condition, it most certainly is. What a coincidence that this show is airing at the very same time the world is locked in a battle to contain the deadly African Ebola virus.

It is an odd coincidence, but a coincidence nonetheless. Thankfully, there is no conspiracy attached to this outbreak. read more
