More Man-Caused Disaster in The Golden State

by: the Common Constitutionalist

Way back on April 7th (4 days ago) I wrote an article regarding the California drought explaining that the conditions they are now faced could have been dealt with, with a little innovation and a lot less wacky environmentalism. You may review it here.

stop-poseidon-desal-plantThe left leaning journal The Economist even advances the fact that “Other places have dealt with drought better than California. Israel, for example, has built large desalination plants that helped the country, which is 60% desert, cope with a seven-year drought between 2004 and 2010 and the driest winter on record in 2013-14. In California, desalination is harder because electricity is costly, thanks to a renewable-energy program. And green rules make building anything slow. A company called Poseidon will this year complete a $1 billion desalination facility to increase San Diego’s water supply by 7%, but only after six years of permitting and litigation. Many other desalination projects around the state have stalled or simply been abandoned.” The Greenies strike again!

So now battle lines have been drawn over who gets the water. Governor Moonbeam is busy putting restrictions on cities and towns but has left the farming communities virtually alone, reports conclude.

“Mr. Brown put his foot on urban hosepipes while letting farmers carry on merrily wasting water, for which they pay far less than urbanites. Agriculture sucks up about 80% of the state’s water (excluding the half that is reserved for environmental uses),” the Economist adds. read more

California Drought Conditions Were Preventable

by: the Common Constitutionalist

In December 2014 NBC Nightly News reported on a massive amount of rainfall that fell in a 24 hour period. In Southern California it was 8” or more in spots.LA River

During the broadcast an NBC reporter interviewed Fritz Coleman, a Southern California Weathercaster for KNBC who stood aside the swelled Los Angeles River and said: “All of our water – we sit and watch it run down the L.A. River and we go – see ya.” The reporter then claimed that in fact “85% of all the rain water that falls in Southern California is wasted.” It is not collected or diverted. It is allowed to simply run out to sea.

And why is that? Well of course – it’s radical environmentalism and the extremist policies they push, with the aide of their willing accomplices in the California State House and Governor’s Mansion.

Just as they do nationwide to our energy sector – forcing the closure of hundreds of coal plants, not allowing drilling on federal lands or permitting the construction of nuclear plants, these environmentalist wackos have all but caused the drought conditions in California.

No, they didn’t cause the actual drought. To my knowledge they are not gathering in field to perform a no-rain dance, but the policies pushed for decades by these loons have certainly caused the conditions we see today. read more

Climate Change Means No More Guacamole

by: the Common Constitutionalist

Just when we thought we’ve heard all the dire warnings regarding global warming there are to hear, along comes another.

This time it is from Chipotle Mexican Grill. The company is warning that they may have to suspend the sale of guacamole at their restaurants.

And why is that? Evidently it is mainly due to the extended drought in California that has adversely affected avocado crops. And this is of course due to climate change.

Chipotle uses about 34 million pounds of avocados every year. It also has a policy of purchasing only organically grown avocados. I would expect nothing less from a company that blames “man-caused” global warming for the drought in California.

A press release from Chipotle on this development read as follows: “While scientists understanding of drought and climate change is evolving rapidly, mainstream climatologists view of drought is that it is directly linked to man-made climate change.” read more
