School Lunch Programs – Oh It Gets Worse

by: the Common Constitutionalist

So you think the free school lunch program won’t get any more ridiculous? Think again. When it comes to progressive government policy, there’s no such thing as too ridiculous.

Last week I wrote an article about supposedly hungry children who broke into a school because they evidently equate free food with school. I also reported that there are now government summer lunch trucks that roam the cities passing out “healthy meals” to our starving waifs.

Now I don’t know what happened to the four Charlotte North Carolina teens who broke into the school, but all that could have been avoided by them knowing just one toll-free number.

“The U.S. Department of agriculture has launched a hotline students and parents can call to find free meal sites in their area,” writes EAGnews.  They added that, “Anyone can call the hotline and after giving a zip code, can be given ‘the nearest site where meals are provided by the USDA.’” read more

What Is McDonald’s?

by: the Common Constitutionalist

For my whole life, McDonald’s has been “the” fast food chain. It was the first of course – the original chain burger joint. And for decades they did a great job of it. No matter where you went, you could pop into a McDonald’s, grab a burger, fries and a Coke and be satisfied with what you received. It was consistent – always the same, no matter where you went. It wasn’t fine dining. It was fast food.

Well, all that’s changed I guess, but into what I know not.

Yesterday the Guardian.com reported that McDonald’s CEO Steve Easterbrook admitted that his restaurant chain is “not on our game.” He said “The message is clear we are not on our game… We must improve, or we will be selling our customers short and leaving open opportunities for competitors.”

He added that he has a plan to “shape McDonald’s future as a modern, progressive burger company, “and by progressive he means the company would be “anticipating the needs of our customers tomorrow.” Wow – that’s deep. Since he went into no detail regarding his progressive plan, we are left with the notion that this is all marketing nonsense and doublespeak. read more

More Man-Caused Disaster in The Golden State

by: the Common Constitutionalist

Way back on April 7th (4 days ago) I wrote an article regarding the California drought explaining that the conditions they are now faced could have been dealt with, with a little innovation and a lot less wacky environmentalism. You may review it here.

stop-poseidon-desal-plantThe left leaning journal The Economist even advances the fact that “Other places have dealt with drought better than California. Israel, for example, has built large desalination plants that helped the country, which is 60% desert, cope with a seven-year drought between 2004 and 2010 and the driest winter on record in 2013-14. In California, desalination is harder because electricity is costly, thanks to a renewable-energy program. And green rules make building anything slow. A company called Poseidon will this year complete a $1 billion desalination facility to increase San Diego’s water supply by 7%, but only after six years of permitting and litigation. Many other desalination projects around the state have stalled or simply been abandoned.” The Greenies strike again!

So now battle lines have been drawn over who gets the water. Governor Moonbeam is busy putting restrictions on cities and towns but has left the farming communities virtually alone, reports conclude.

“Mr. Brown put his foot on urban hosepipes while letting farmers carry on merrily wasting water, for which they pay far less than urbanites. Agriculture sucks up about 80% of the state’s water (excluding the half that is reserved for environmental uses),” the Economist adds. read more

California Drought Conditions Were Preventable

by: the Common Constitutionalist

In December 2014 NBC Nightly News reported on a massive amount of rainfall that fell in a 24 hour period. In Southern California it was 8” or more in spots.LA River

During the broadcast an NBC reporter interviewed Fritz Coleman, a Southern California Weathercaster for KNBC who stood aside the swelled Los Angeles River and said: “All of our water – we sit and watch it run down the L.A. River and we go – see ya.” The reporter then claimed that in fact “85% of all the rain water that falls in Southern California is wasted.” It is not collected or diverted. It is allowed to simply run out to sea.

And why is that? Well of course – it’s radical environmentalism and the extremist policies they push, with the aide of their willing accomplices in the California State House and Governor’s Mansion.

Just as they do nationwide to our energy sector – forcing the closure of hundreds of coal plants, not allowing drilling on federal lands or permitting the construction of nuclear plants, these environmentalist wackos have all but caused the drought conditions in California.

No, they didn’t cause the actual drought. To my knowledge they are not gathering in field to perform a no-rain dance, but the policies pushed for decades by these loons have certainly caused the conditions we see today. read more

Doomsday for Conservatives

By: the Common Constitutionalist

If it’s not End Times for the world, it certainly may be for conservative America.

First – the world. Just take a look around.

Look at what the former KGB operative and current supreme leader of mother Russia is doing. You may recall last week that Vladimir “Pooty-Poot” Putin ordered two Russian Bear bombers to buzz Great Britain. RAF Typhoon fighters had to be scrambled to chase them off. Awarship few days earlier, a Russian warship had to be escorted by the U.K. military through the English Channel. I’m sure it just made a wrong turn at Iceland. At the same time the British government is discussing cuts in their defense spending. They might want to rethink that strategy.

Putin is on the march and actively testing the west’s ability and fortitude to repel him should he decide to begin to take more territory. This Russian situation is a lot more serious than is being advertised. One stupid mistake from some overzealous official on either side – and the missiles start flying.

Then there are the many faces of terror that threaten the entire west. Personally, I think most, if not all of Europe is doomed, owing not only to their spineless “go along to get along” attitude toward Muslims in general, but also their admittance of so many Muslims into their countries. I am certainly not the only one who feels this way. read more

What’s Wrong with a Well Regulated Internet?

by: the Common Constitutionalist

It will be great! Take the Second Amendment. You know – “A well regulated Militia…” Instead, we can change it to read “A well regulated Internet, being necessary for the continuation of free access (defined by the FCC) to the World Wide Web, the right of the people to high-speed service shall not be infringed, except by the FCC.”

Okay – enough tomfoolery. Right now, as you read this, the Internet as it is currently comprised, is the very definition of freedom and free speech. ItNet-Neutrality has revolutionized expression.

20 years ago, I could never have imagined having the ability to go on the Internet, build a website and just start expressing myself. And anyone (well, almost) on the planet can access that information. It’s astounding! That’s real freedom. The founders would be proud.

One of the major complaints is, without net neutrality, cable and phone companies can and will charge content providers an extra fee for delivering content. Well, for the little to average guy, in my opinion, that isn’t going to happen. That fee will be reserved for large streaming services like Netflix, YouTube, Amazon, etc. read more

Waiting for a Climate Apology

by: the Common Constitutionalist

The Sierra Club gleefully reports that our saints at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to date have forced the closure of 186 coal-fired power plants. They claim there are still 337 to go. According to their data each coal-fired plant produces an average of 500 MW of energy, capable of powering roughly 260,000 households. That’s over 48 million households deprived of inexpensive energy, and all in the name of combating global warming.

Their reasoning is to combat the emission of carbon dioxide, that evil greenhouse gas that has caused our Earth to warm unnecessarily.

Yet recent discoveries have found what we’ve known all along. That man-made climate change is a scam and a scandal of proportions that we have never seen.

Not long after it was announced that 2014 was the hottest year on record, evidence has come to light of massive tampering of temperature data to make it appear that the earth is warming.

Paul Homewood discovered the tampering when he examined NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies temperature recordings. You may read about his findings here and here. He began by looking at the recordings from rural stations in South America. What he found was staggering. The originally recorded data had been changed dramatically. Not just altered slightly but shifted dramatically. read more

To D.C. Homeless – Let Them Eat Brioche

by: the Common Constitutionalist:

Obama and the left love to travel the country making soap-box speeches bemoaning income inequality, yet right under their collective noses is a dichotomy of two vastly different economies in the District of Columbia. One is populated by “the connected”,  thriving in well-paying information and government jobs. The other is for people scrambling for even low-paying work.

rue Color ImageWe should be disgusted with that. Every high paying job in the DC area is attributed directly to government payroll or to servicing our bloated overseers. We all know this, and so do they in the “public sector,” but I’m sure they’ve convinced themselves, or been convinced, that their work is so essential, that they are the best and brightest, and therefore should be paid like kings.

According to the analysis by the DC Fiscal Policy Institute, “the top 5 percent of households in the District averaged $473,000 a year…,” and that was 3 years ago. Gee – I wonder if it’s even more now?

In 2012, the Washington Post reported that the “District has one of the highest levels of income inequality among the nation’s cities, with the top fifth earning on average 29 times the income of the bottom fifth.

The city’s top fifth of all households pulled in $259,000 on average. In contrast, the bottom fifth had an average income of $9,100. read more
