Unemployment Insurance – Another Good Crisis

by: the Common Constitutionalist

Despite the lies predicated by the Obama administration regarding an improving economy, many experts are growing increasingly concerned that we may be headed for another recession.

Because of this, states may suffer mightily being that several already are carrying massive deficits in their unemployment insurance funds. “A mere 18 states have enough money in their unemployment insurance trust funds to get through a 12 month recession, according to the Department of Labor.”

The state trust funds are designed to provide 26 weeks of unemployment insurance to residents. “Strikingly, many of those state funds are actually in worse financial shape now than they were before the 2008 financial crisis.”

Not surprisingly California is in the worst shape. The state’s unemployment trust fund is presently indebted to the federal government for more than $6 billion. Yes, the federal government provides emergency loans to states that can’t cover the cost of their own unemployment insurance. It’s a huge disadvantage to states who aren’t allowed to print their own money – a problem the feds don’t have. read more

Gun Violence Will Be Tops at the State of the Union

by: the Common Constitutionalist

Obama has begun his final year full court press to secure his legacy. He knows the clock is ticking and he must undo as much of the Constitution as possible prior to his exit. I believe one reason he appears to be pushing so hard is that he believes Hillary Clinton, one way or the other, will not win. She will either lose in the general election or her criminal behavior will finally catch up to her – therefore be unable to extend his radical legacy.

Of course one of the major issues for any statist is to begin the process of disarming the citizenry. So Obama has hit the road – giving speeches – using what Teddy Roosevelt called his “Bully Pulpit,” to spread his message of gun control.

As a slight aside, you’ve probably noticed that Obama, the Dems nor the press is promoting “gun safety.” See, the word “safety” carries with it a positive tone. When leftists speak of guns, which are as everyone knows inherently evil, they must take care not to detract from that message of evil with a word like “safety.”

Therefore, for leftists, guns must be forever linked with violence – thus the newly minted and focus group tested Democrat phrase, “Gun Violence.” Watch and listen for it – it’s everywhere. read more

Podcast – Terror Alert Close To Home – The Global Warming Agreement

In this episode I share my personal experience of see something – say something and how it pertains to domestic terror. What did I find? Listen to learn.

I also discuss the recently released Climate Alarmist COP 21 Agreement, which is really just a money laundering scheme. And as the alarmists attempt to fleece us – in Germany, a less publicized meeting of evil climate denying actual scientists convened to once again debunk the scam of man-made global warming. read more

Luxury Tax History Repeating Itself

by: the Common Constitutionalist

Since 2008, tens of thousands of coal related jobs have been lost – some almost incalculable. As hundreds of coal plants have been closed, it is not just miners who are affected. As power plants close, all employees lose their jobs. Blue collar and white collar employees get the ax – managers, technicians, secretaries, everyone.

But that’s not where it ends. Many of these coal plants are located in rural areas. They have whole towns that spring up around them, as townspeople not only work at the plant, but small businesses are created, like restaurants, gas and service stations, grocery and convenience stores, laundromats, dry cleaners, and list goes on – all to support the plant and its employees. As these plants go away, so too do all the support businesses and all their employees.

But this rings hollow to the Obama administration. Obama cares only for himself and his radical agenda, for once again, due to his Marxist, redistributionist, green agenda, history is about to repeat itself.

Obama’s radical green agenda is about to ruin yet another industry. He and other radicals will consider it a win-win as Obama gets to not only advance his phony green plan, but at the same time, his new rule will also redistribute wealth.

Who’s the target? This time it’s the Luxury yacht industry. read more

Doctor Says It’s Our Way or the Highway

by: the Common Constitutionalist

You may not have ever heard of the company Supreme Greens, or the product by the same name. It is advertised as a “a powerful Mega-Food formulation of organically grown grasses and vegetables, sprouted grains, blood purifying and immune enhancing herbs, and antioxidants synergistically blended with MSM (MethylSulfonylMethane).

Well, the Company and its owner Alex Guerrero are under investigation by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) for claims in can cure cancer and concussions, amongst other things.

So what, you may say. There are lots of bogus products on the market. What makes this one different?

Well, really nothing, except the greatest quarterback ever to play the game, Tom Brady, is not only a client but a business partner of Gurrero’s at Brady’s Sports Therapy Center, TB12.

Yesterday morning while driving to my office, I was listening to a Boston sports radio morning show called Dennis & Callahan.  Although Brady is not involved in this FTC investigation (sorry all you Brady haters), it’s obviously news. Up here, if Brady sneezes, it’s news.

The FTC got involved after Guerrero produced an infomercial claiming his product produced some miraculous results. At his California clinic,  “He said he’d conducted ‘clinical studies’ of 200 patients who’d been diagnosed as terminally ill. They were suffering from ailments such as cancer, AIDS, multiple sclerosis, and Parkinson’s disease. And eight years later, all but eight had survived.”

Enter a guest of the morning show, Dr. Barrie Cassileth. Dr. Cassileth has a PhD in medical sociology and founded the Integrative Medicine Service at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. She’s helping the FTC investigate Alex Guerrero and his company Supreme Greens.

She told the Dennis & Callahan Radio show that she got involved in the Guerrero case because, “I have been working most of my career, which is quite lengthy, to not only help cancer patients and provide useful services, but also to get rid of scam approaches, which abound, and this is simply one of them.” She explained that this industry of miracle cures is a $40 billion business “in totally useless scam products.”

Cassileth said her real complaint about Guerrero, and others like him, is the danger to the patient. She explains that patients may say to themselves – maybe I’ll try one of these plant products instead of going in for a traditional cancer treatment and see how that goes first. read more

Tesla and the War on Coal

by: the Common Constitutionalist

You may have seen pictures of Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla Motors, playing amateur daredevil as he tried his hand at wing walking the other day. Yes, he’s happy-go-lucky, living high on the hog – his coffers full of government largess.

So dependent upon the government for its survival, Tesla’s 2014 annual report stated: “Our growth depends in part on the availability and amount of government subsidies and economic incentives.”

That’s a pretty bold and honest statement. Let me rephrase that. It’s a pretty bold statement, for to be honest, Musk’s company depends almost entirely on the generosity of us ignorant taxpayers, in one form or another.

They don’t sell many cars, and the money they do make is through a myriad of tax credits and other government giveaways. It’s a great scheme and the model for crony corporatism.

Tesla, by all estimates is a great car, but the company couldn’t survive a year in a real free-market. Yet they are evidently not content with their current method of fleecing the American public. read more

After Obama’s Energy Crackdown, We Will Resemble California, Or Worse

by: the Common Constitutionalist

We will be judged in history for our lethargy. History will judge us as posterity looks back at this period in America with disdain. We will be known as the generation that ushered in the end of America, as was once known.

And all this is happening the same way it did when the progressive Republican disaster Herbert Hoover led directly to the more disastrous Franklin Roosevelt. But it’s worse this time around, for there are multiple millions more stupid people who are evidently much more easily duped by a slick talking salesman.

How else could an America hating community agitator get elected – twice?

Some would say this to be overly provocative and hyperbolic, but think about it this way. Your husband, wife, boyfriend or girlfriend says to you, that he or she loves you – loves everything about you. So much so, that they wish to change you completely. Yes honey – I love you so much that I want to change everything about you. read more

More Liberal Nanny Food Myths Busted

by: the Common Constitutionalist

Politics aside, this past has past year has been pretty productive for those of us trying to live a common sense lifestyle, particularly on the food front.

There was the new research on salt intake. Actually, as it turns out, the new research study has been the only real research study and it showed virtually no link between salt intake and hypertension, which has been the conventional wisdom for as long as I can remember.

I did a Podcast  in March on the subject of salt, where the scientific and medical communities have bought into the myth that salt is bad and must be severely limited.

All this mass hysteria over salt was based on one study done in the 1970s, where the researchers fed massive amounts of salt to mice over an extended period of time and surprise, they developed health problems.

They never followed up with any reasonable human studies – other bogus ones, used only to advance the low/no salt myth, but no reasonable human studies. The myth of salt has been based on a single shoddy research study.

The new research found that not only is a reasonable, commonsense amount of salt not bad, but may very well aid in weight loss. And too little salt, as is currently recommended, can have catastrophic negative health effects.

Then came the new research on saturated fats, where they discovered once again, the claims of health issues like heart disease and stroke is completely unfounded. Once again, the new research found virtually no ill effects when consuming reasonable amounts of saturated fat and cholesterol. In fact they could find little to no link to show cholesterol caused either stroke or heart disease.

But for decades we have been preached to about the dangers of salt and cholesterol laden foods. All unfounded – all bogus. read more

Snuffing Out Americana

by: the Common Constitutionalist

Well – it’s starting. In cities across the country, Mayors, City Council members and other various nanny-legislators are attempting to snuff out (pun intended) something quintessentially American – the backyard barbecue.

For centuries, millennia even, man has cooked his yummy meat products over an open flame while enjoying the great outdoors, as well as the aroma of said yummy meat products.

Yet in January of this year the AP wrote: “The booming popularity of outdoor kitchens among homeowners in the San Francisco Bay area has an increasing number of their neighbors coughing and hacking from the smoke, leading air-quality officials to consider tightening rules on wood-burning pizza ovens and smokers.”

Well, I thought they were just talking about the old Weber grill, but in San Francisco, they can’t settle for just some old grill. They instead must have an outdoor kitchen. You’ve probably seen these things. They are literally luxury kitchens constructed in one’s backyard. A lot of these setups are more expensive than your average home elsewhere in the country.

Yet the nannies in San Francisco won’t stop there – they can’t. Their proclivity for controlling our lives won’t allow them to. The “tightening rules” will inevitably lead to an all-out ban on grilling of any kind. Oh, I suppose one could have an EPA sanctioned scrubber installed on your grill, like the ones installed on coal-fired power plants, but that might be both impractical and a bit pricey.

Instead of a scrubber, residents might just take their chances at covert barbecuing – maybe at 2 AM light off or something. But watch out, for the fines proposed will be $100 for first timers and $500 or more for repeat offenders – each offense. Then after that, I suppose the Bobbies will cart you off to prison for a little “grilling” under the bright interrogation lights. read more

School Lunch Programs – Oh It Gets Worse

by: the Common Constitutionalist

So you think the free school lunch program won’t get any more ridiculous? Think again. When it comes to progressive government policy, there’s no such thing as too ridiculous.

Last week I wrote an article about supposedly hungry children who broke into a school because they evidently equate free food with school. I also reported that there are now government summer lunch trucks that roam the cities passing out “healthy meals” to our starving waifs.

Now I don’t know what happened to the four Charlotte North Carolina teens who broke into the school, but all that could have been avoided by them knowing just one toll-free number.

“The U.S. Department of agriculture has launched a hotline students and parents can call to find free meal sites in their area,” writes EAGnews.  They added that, “Anyone can call the hotline and after giving a zip code, can be given ‘the nearest site where meals are provided by the USDA.’” read more
