Useless Gun Laws Would Do Nothing to Stop Terrorism But They Move the Gun-Grab Ball Forward

by: the Common Constitutionalist

From the aftermath of the Orlando massacre come the expected cries for stricter gun control. But would we expect anything less from leftists whose credo is “Never Let a Good Crisis Go to Waste?”

And isn’t that what it’s really all about – moving the ball ever-forward – building that framework – brick by brick, law by law, regulation by regulation, lie after lie, until the framework is complete and there is nothing remaining but to confiscate our guns. Don’t ever be fooled into thinking this is not what they want – so embarrassed are they of our backwards country and so envious are they of the more advanced progressive nations in Europe and even Australia.

One of the most prominent gun-grabbers is California Senator Diane Feinstein. Call me cynical, but I believe the gun control measures which are just now coming to light have been written long ago and simply stored in some file somewhere just waiting for a “Good Crisis” to appear. One such is the legislation Feinstein is seeking  that would “place an outright ban on firearm purchases for those who appear on a federal terror watch list that includes those who are not permitted to fly.”

Of course to advance her silliness, she knows she’ll need Republican assistance, so she approached Texas Senator John Cornyn. He has already proposed his version of “common sense” gun legislation, which will “place a 72-hour delay on gun purchases for people on the terror watch list, and it would require federal officials to prove in court that the person should not be allowed to buy guns.” read more

Dodd-Frank Will Rescue Us From Pay Day Lenders

By: the Common Constitutionalist

Short term or “Pay Day” loans have really drawn the ire of the peoples’ president, Barack Obama. So devastating are these loans to the poor and otherwise less fortunate, that Dodd-Frank, the gift that keeps giving, created another useful and desperately needed government agency – the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).

The LA Times reported that this began the “first federal oversight of payday lenders in 2012 amid strong criticism of the industry from fair lending and public interest groups.”

Well, I guess my work here is done and my article complete. I mean – the feds created a new bureaucracy to monitor and deal with evil, predatory Pay Day lenders, so – problem solved. Let’s move on to the next crisis.

Oh – it’s not? Let’s continue then.

Pay Day lenders are none too happy with our president – who’s just looking out for the folks and preventing lenders from laying on the “okie doke” to unsuspecting consumers. The Times claims that the “payday loan industry has argued that the loans are an important financial bridge for some consumers and that regulations should not be too onerous.” Just onerous enough I suppose. read more

Keep the Government Away from Facebook

So Facebook is liberal, or at least has a left bias. What a revelation. What high-tech type company isn’t. I mean, really – Google, Apple, Microsoft – they’re all run by libs, and most who work for them also tilt left. These companies all have this in common. How is it a surprise to anyone?

They have another thing in common. They are also private corporations and, as such, should be able to do whatever they wish regarding the content they allow or rank. This is not to say we on the right can’t complain or make a stir when we see bias. read more

Was it Police Abuse or an Unruly Criminal?

by: the Common Constitutionalist

On the coast of North Carolina there are many wonderful beaches and islands to explore. Most of them are fairly serene where families go to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Islands like Ocean Isle, Holden Beach, Oak Island and Caswell Beach separated from the mainland by the famous Intracoastal Waterway. I can personally attest to the beauty of this area and understand why families go back year after year.

Across the Cape Fear River (yes, that Cape Fear from the movie) from Fort Caswell on the end of a peninsula is Bald Head Island. Bald Head is a resort and nature preserve. Being a relatively small and quiet area, the village has all but given up cars, opting instead for golf carts as the main mode of transportation.

The Mall family, like many others, has been vacationing on Bald Head for years and until last summer had never heard of or witnessed an incident on the Island. But last summer that all changed.

The family was in their cart driving back to their cottage one evening when their 11 year old son asked if he could drive the cart the last two blocks. Being that it was a golf cart and there were no other carts on the road/path, according to the mother Julie Mall, she and her husband said okay. read more

The Charge of the Transgender Brigade

by: the Common Constitutionalist

Ours is not to wonder why – ours is just to do or get fined. Okay – that’s not exactly accurate, unless you are one of the 600 left to oppose the lefts new civil right – the rights of transgenders or “gender-non-conforming people.”

For all these years close minded conservatives have been under the misconception that a person’s sex is synonymous with their gender. Silly backwoods bumpkins. It’s time we were dragged from the dark ages to the 21st century were all gender is fluid.

And just to make sure we comply – federal, state and city governments will force us into the proper genderless state of mind.

President Obama recently decreed that all public schools adhere to his new genderless bathroom policy or risk losing their federal education allocations. But he can’t just do that! Of course he can. Other pharaohs before him have made decrees – why not him. So let it be written – so let it be done.

Not to be outdone by Pharaoh Obama, the Communist Politburo of New York City, headed by Comrade Bill de Blasio has upped the anteread more

Podcast – HuffPo Loves Government Mandated Overtime – Congresswoman Suffers Swatting Hoax – Zika is Spreading in America

A writer at the Huffington Post is hailing Obama’s latest control issue – mandatory government decreed overtime pay for the private sector. He says it will likely benefit 12 million American families. I disagree.

I speak in segment two of a computer generating swatting hoax perpetrated on a Massachusetts Congresswoman in retaliation for a bill she introduced to prevent online harassment.

The Zika Virus has hit America, but don’t worry – it has nothing at all to do with the huge influx of immigrants streaming across our border. The CDC assures of that. Coincidently, I disagree with this also. read more

Is Newt the right choice for Trump?

The rumor mill is cranking into high gear wondering who Trump is likely to choose as his running mate. So far several names have surfaced.

The L.A. Times wrote, “Trump has benefited from his outsider status, but the billionaire businessman has said his vice-presidential pick will likely have political experience.” And we all know what that means. In case you don’t, this is why having political experience is important to The Donald. He recently told George Stephanopoulos during an interview on “Good Morning America”: “I would like to have somebody who could truly be good with respect to dealing with the Senate and dealing with Congress – getting legislation passed. Working toward something where we’re not signing executive orders every three days like President Obama does.”

Progressive Hollywood Isn’t Progressive Enough

By: the Common Constitutionalist

When one wishes to take the pulse of the real radical left, you need to know where to look. Oh, I don’t mean just liberals like CNN or the Washington Post. I’m talking about radicals who think liberals aren’t liberal enough. For news on that front, you need to go to sites like MoveOn.org, ThinkProgress or the ACLU.

That being said – who doesn’t think Hollywood is progressive enough? Well, evidently the radicals at the ACLU (yes, I know that’s redundant) don’t believe progressive Hollywood is progressive enough.

Normally I would never side with the ACLU on anything. They are awful and a wholly un-American organization. But I do so enjoy when smug leftists in Hollywood get caught by other leftists not practicing what they preach.

For decades cloistered Hollywood has been on the cutting edge of every new “civil right” and liberal cause to come down the pike. But recently even it has come under fire.

We all remember the big flap over the lack of black representation at the last Academy Awards and the fight for equal pay for actresses, headlined by Jennifer Lawrence who only grossed $52 million in 2015. Poor girl.

If that’s not bad enough, “last summer, the ACLU asked federal and state agencies to explore whether gender discrimination is responsible for the dearth of female directors in the entertainment industry.” The federal investigation will be headed up by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs. read more

Government Regulations Likely to Backfire Again

By: the Common Constitutionalist

What is the easiest way to kill an industry – any industry? The answer is to inject government into the equation. Government has long been a thorn in the side of American business. And it is also the answer to lessening competition for those crony corporations who, through donations and graft to politicians, are able to virtually lock out up-and-comers with a better mousetrap. As I’ve stated many times – the government takes it upon itself to pick winners and losers, as it has done for decades.

So how does government ruin companies and entire industries? Well, they can punitively tax them, but this has to be done legislatively and must be at least loosely based on the Constitution. That’s far too much of a hassle and also must effect all people or businesses. Oh, and it’s also far too public.

No, this the answer is and has been the Administrative State – bureaucratic regulatory bodies within the government whose dictates often go unheard and unseen to the general public, but whose rules and regulations carry the full weight of law – without the legislative entanglements and fanfare.

Save for the relatively informed few like us, most Americans are still virtually unaware of the havoc the EPA has wrought on the coal industry, or their stated goal to kill it off completely. The general public may only notice an increase in their power bill for which many will simply chock up to corporate greed. read more

Podcast – Muslims in Egypt Blame Violence on Cartoons and Video Games – Communist Cuba is Now the Coolest Place on Earth – Mt St Helens is Recharging

Yes, Muslim leaders and academics in Egypt believe they have found the source of jihad. No it’s not the teachings of radical clerics – it’s the cartoon Tom and Jerry and violent video games that have been driving young men to shoot others and blow them up.

For the liberal elites and the beautiful people in Hollywood, music and the fashion industry, the Communist Island of Cuba is evidently the place to see and be seen – more to be seen. Communist Cuba is cool, assuming you know nothing about it.

It seems Mt St Helens is recharging. Scientists are detecting tiny earthquakes deep below ground – an indication the mountain is slowly coming back to life. There’s nothing to worry yet, but it is again just a matter of time. read more
