U.S. Veterans Affairs headquarters refuses request to make its motto ‘gender neutral’

The Department of Veterans Affairs has denied a request to make its motto “gender neutral,” reports Stars and Stripes, a military newspaper.

For 59 years, the VA’s motto has read: “To care for him who shall have borne the battle and for his widow, and his orphan.” The quote comes from Abraham Lincoln’s second inaugural address in 1865, the same year Lincoln created the government’s institution for volunteer soldiers. read more

God is No Longer a He

from One News Now:

Episcopal Church votes no masculine pronouns for God

Continuing its freefall to the theological left, the Episcopal Church in the Diocese of Washington, D.C., voted last week to pass a resolution that puts an end to the use of masculine pronouns for God as it prepares to update its Book of Common Prayer.

Episcopalian delegates to the Diocese’s 123rd Convention swiftly passed the resolution in the nation’s capital so that “gendered language for God” will no longer be used.

“If revision of the Book of Common Prayer is authorized, to utilize expansive language for God from the rich sources of feminine, masculine and non-binary imagery for God found in Scripture and tradition and, when possible, to avoid the use of gendered pronouns for God,” the diocese’s resolution reads. “Over the centuries, our language and our understanding of God has continued to change and adapt.” read more

California Hates Homeschooling

from Western Journalism:

California Presumes Homeschooling Parents Are Child Abusers, Seeks Invasive New Restrictions

As California lawmakers continue their track-record of controversial decisions, one announcement in particular has caused an outcry for its overreaching presumption: that all homeschoolers must also be child abusers.

According to The Washington Examiner, the plan set out by lawmakers would be to force parents into proving to the government that they are, in fact, fit to be a parent.

The homeschooling parent — per legal requirement — would have to meet the government’s required checklist via home visits, interviews, and other oversights, effectively increasing the burden on the parent to prove themselves parentally fit. read more

Television is Becoming FUBAR

Since everyone and their f-ing cousin is talking and writing about Trump’s f-ing State of the Union speech, I figure what the “F.” I’ll write about something else.

For those unfamiliar with the term FUBAR – it’s a military acronym which stands for “F-ed up beyond all recognition.”

Speaking of the f-word – the above statement seems to be typical of what we hear in standard parlance these days. The f-word, which was once, and not too long ago, completely abhorrent, is today so common as to now be deemed acceptable on cable channels such as Syfy and the USA Network, as well as AMC and FX.

The Daily Wire reports that, “Basic cable is not subject to the guidelines of the Federal Communications Commission, so the channels’ self-regulation is based on standard mores, and what advertisers are perceived to tolerate.” Advertisers will of course air whatever the public will tolerate. And the public appears to do more than just tolerate it. This coarsening of language on TV is a mere reflection of how many Americans speak. read more

The Debate about Illegal Immigration

from Walter Williams at TownHall:

Immigration Lies and Hypocrisy

President Donald Trump reportedly asked why the U.S. is “having all these people from sh*thole countries come here.” I think he could have used better language, but it’s a question that should be asked and answered. I have a few questions for my fellow Americans to consider. How many Norwegians have illegally entered our nation, committed crimes and burdened our prison and welfare systems? I might ask the same question about Finnish, Swedish, Welsh, Icelanders, Greenlanders and New Zealanders.

The bulk of our immigration problem is with people who enter our country criminally from Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, Africa and the Middle East. It’s illegal immigrants from those countries who have committed crimes and burdened our criminal justice and welfare systems. read more

Schizophrenic Chicago Voted Best City and Murder Capital

Each year the social website Time Out publishes its list of the World’s best cities. And this past Monday was that day. Using its “City Life Index,” they determined that the one that tops them all for being the best city in the World for having fun and enjoying city life is Chicago. Yep – “Chicago was ranked the best city for having it all through Time Out’s extensive City Life Index.” And this is a back to back victory, as they also took top honors in 2016.

Time Out writes that in making its determination, they “surveyed 15,000 people in 32 cities—from Austin to Hong Kong to Tel Aviv—and asked in-depth questions about sex, dining, neighborhoods, affordability, happiness and so much more. Each city was then scored across those facets to reveal the winner.”

They claim the survey said that new restaurants and bars are opening all the time and that Chicagoans eat out quite often. read more

Minnesota’s Somali Problem

from Creeping Sharia:

Minnesota’s “Little Mogadishu” celebrated at Reason.com

Not all that many years ago, the worst things you could say about Minneapolis were that it was very cold in the winter and, for an American city of its size, it was somewhat dull. On the plus side, this traditionally Scandinavian-American burg was a model of safety and cleanliness.

Well, that’s ancient history. Minneapolis is now the world’s #2 capital of Somali Muslims. (#1 is Mogadishu.) In the Somali community, unemployment and welfare dependency rates are high. The city is a major recruiting center for ISIS. At least a couple of ISIS recruits have used taxpayer-funded student loans to fly to the Middle East to become jihadists; many other local Somalis are suspected of wiring welfare cash to terrorist groups. Violent crime is epidemic: as recently as December 13, a Somali Muslim immigrant stabbed a Minneapolis woman no fewer than fourteen times on her way home from work. read more

California History Textbooks Celebrate the LGBT Movement

by: Brent Smith at the Common Constitutionalist

It is being reported that, “the California board of education brought to an end a decades-long campaign to emphasize lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender historical figures in state social-studies / history textbooks, approving K-8 volumes that make identity politics of all kinds the core of the subject.”

So grades K-8 will now be learning alternative history, of all the significant achievements of America’s homosexuals and cross-dressers. As a parent, I can think of nothing more enlightening than to teach my five year old that Ralph down the street, who dresses like a woman, is historically significant.

California State Senator Mark Leno, who represents San Francisco (where else) says that, “Most textbooks don’t include any historical information about the LGBT movement, which has great significance to both California and U.S. history. We are censoring the history lessons,” denying students “the facts of the struggle for equal rights.” Really – name three. And the annual gay-pride parade doesn’t count as being historically significant.

Coincidently, Leno is running for Mayor of San Francisco, but I’m sure this has nothing to do with his most recent push for LGBT significance. And last I checked, everyone in this country already has equal rights. Not special rights – just equal rights. read more

Podcast – The Sugar Tax – A Study of Cartoon Dialect

by: Brent Smith at the Common Constitutionalist

The city of Seattle Washington has just instituted a massive tax on sugary beverages that is already hitting consumers hard. The tax is almost doubling the cost of sugary drinks. Consumers and small businesses are upset by it, but matters not to the Nanny State politicians and egg heads who are doing this for our own good.

Two academics have taken it upon themselves to study the dialects of childrens’ cartoon characters, and have found something both startling and apparently disturbing. Virtually all good guys (and girls) portrayed in cartoons have American accents, but villains are predominantly represented with English accents. This, they say, is a problem, because, as we know, Americans, particularly white Americans, are not supposed to be the good guys. read more

Be Prepared to be Peppered with Questions on Your Next Date

by: Brent Smith at the Common Constitutionalist

On Monday, Jeff Fisher, Jeffy, was filling in for Pat Gray on his Blaze Radio program. He spoke on many topics. One that interested me, because of the absurdity, was an article written by a radical feminist and posted on the website, “Wear Your Voice.”

The article was entitled, “10 THINGS EVERY INTERSECTIONAL FEMINIST SHOULD ASK ON A FIRST DATE.”

This person, who describes herself as a, “queer femme of color,” made an actual list of the 10 things everyone, or every radical leftist, should ask of a prospective friend, date or suitor, whether they be heterosexual, homosexual, or any of a dozen or so other classifications.

She says that she keeps, “close relationships with people who go beyond allyship; they’re true accomplices in the fight against white supremacy, queerphobia and misogyny. If you’re not going to support marginalized folks, then we can’t be friends, let alone date. The personal is political.”

Well I give her credit for one thing. She, unlike many leftists, at least admits that everything boils down to politics for those on the left. They seem to have nothing else. But what do I know. I’m a heterosexual Christian White guy who’s never been oppressed. Everything I am screams oppressor. read more
